How to Calculate Air Conditioner Power Consumption?? AC Repair & Maintenance | Dubai

According to the modern world, every home or buildings have an air conditioner for escape from the heavy hot climate. The air conditioner is to provide cooling by circulating cool air through ducts from an air conditioner unit typically situated outside the home or buildings. The energy use of air conditioner mainly depends on the climate of the region. Usually, an air conditioner will run 3 to 7 months of the year that will depend on the outside of the temperature. An average air conditioner will use 3000 to 5000 watts of power every hour for around 9 hours a day during the heavy hotter months.

Energy Efficient Ratio (EER) = Cooling Capacity of power consumed by the air conditioner. For example, the air conditioner to be a 3 star rated, its Energy Efficient Ratio become 2.7

Then, the cooling capacity of 1 ton is equal to 3.517 kW of power

For 1.5 ton AC, power consumption of AC = Cooling capacity / EER

                                                                         = 1.5 * 3.517 / 2.7 = 1.954 kW

AC consists of two units, an indoor unit called evaporator and the outdoor unit called compressor. The power consumed by evaporator is less compared to the compressor. So the total power is consumed only by the compressor.

So energy consumption per hour of running = 1.954 * 0.6 = 1.172 kWh = 1.172 unit.

Important Components of Air Conditioning System

2. Condenser Coil

A fan connected into the condenser coil which cools down the high-pressure gas and it converts back into a liquid form. This is placed next to the evaporator. You can see this compressor and condenser coil on the outside of your house.  3. Evaporator

This is placed inside the house. Usually, it found near the furnace and it linked with the condenser with an extremely thin pipe. In this procedure, the working fluid or refrigerant take away the heat from the air and cools it off.  A cyclic fashion happens through this process.

 4. Air handler and blowing unit

With the help of a duct system, the passage of air flow in the room is facilitated.  5. Thermostat

It is used to preserve the temperature of your air conditioner system by regulating the heating energy flowing inside and outside of it.
