I propose that in a modern AU, no matter the person you put with Shen Yuan, he is always the one singing about loving human centipede, not ironically and for the plot. Except, you know, with PIDW

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu) from my fic, In Tune, dressed down for a lazy day recovering from his recent qi-deviation.

Technically unfinished, but I ended up cropping this from a slightly bigger picture for now, because I lost the reference I was using for the outfit. It's never a guarantee that I will still have the drive to finish this by the time I find it again and I wanted to celebrate getting 1000 kudos on the fic with something at least.

Give me Shen Twins with a complicated relationship.

I wanna see Shen Twins that viscerally cannot stand the way that the other copes with the bad things that've happened to them.

Give me SY who pleads with SJ to "just behave" while cleaning his wounds because he's scared his brother is going to get into bigger trouble than they can handle. Because he can't understand SJ's refusal to make himself smaller, can't understand why his brother feels the need to fight the world even at the expense of his own wellbeing.

Give me SJ yelling and shaking SY because he can't stand the way the SY just seems to accept their situation. Because where SY's response to fear and uncertainty is to avoid and hide, SJ's is to fight.

I wanna see SJ resent that he's the Only person that SY will actually fight and I wanna see SY being hurt that his brother just won't listen to him when he's Just trying to help.

And then give be post-Qui Shen Twins who learn to understand. Let SJ learn that SY's anger was only safe with him. Let SY understand SJ's violent need to be seen as a real person. Let them both understand that they Both did their best to keep each other alive.

What if instead of Shen Yuan transmigrating when Shen Qingqiu has a qi deviation when Luo Binghe is 14 years old, Shen Yuan transmigrates when Shen Jiu has qi deviation for the first time when he is going to stab Qiu Jianluo with the decorative sword?

The transition is disorienting so Shen Jiu controls the sword with qi, aiming at Qiu Jianluo midway, then collapses before stabbing anyone or burning anything. Qiu Jianluo is of course furious. He whips and beats Shen Jiu now Shen Yuan even more severely than normal for attempting to kill him, ties him up, and starves him in a dark room.

According to the timeline, Yue Qingyuan arrives the next day or just few days after. Honestly I don't know how Yue Qingyuan intended to rescue Shen Jiu. Did he mean to barge in like Liu Qingge, fight and grab Shen Jiu out? Doesn't he think about the repercussion of 'a future sect leader of a prominent sect' beating up civilians, destroying their properties, and stealing their slave? I don't know. Or did he mean to negotiate and blackmail or buy Shen Jiu out? From the need of Xuan Su, I assume it's the former.

So Shen Yuan who is still muddled in pain he has never felt before in the 20 years of his previous life, along with the System blaring information that sounds like incomprehensible noises to him, rasps at the young man who is holding him,

"Who...are you... ?"

"Xiao Jiu, I've come to rescue you like promised."

"Xiao... Who? What promise... ?"

('System! This isn't in the plot!' Shen Yuan may or may not later yell.)

And Yue Qingyuan returns to the sect with a battered, amnesiac brother who is so different from the Xiao Jiu he remembers.

Yue Qingyuan assumes this level of physical wounds is everyday occurences at the Qiu, and that Yue Qingyuan obviously took too long to rescue Xiao Jiu. The abuses must have conditioned and destroyed Xiao Jiu's usually fierce and tenacious temperaments. Xiao Jiu is either beatened till concussed and lost his memories, or managed to recede into his own mind and bury all their shared past. His incredibly sharp and brilliant mind is gone too.

Regardless, what he has now is a shell of Xiao Jiu (actually literally).

(Not that the soul inside is very Shen Yuan either since this one extreme assault did shake a spoiled rich millenial's psych to its core. Shen Yuan is going to also be aversed to men's touches, and likely loud noises, darkness, quick movements, little violence, and normal cultivators' fighting and sparring.

Young Liu Qingge is going to scoff why Shen Yuan even joined the sect.)

Yue Qingyuan is going to feel even guiltier than in canon because he sees Xiao Jiu's fresh conditions out of the Qiu, even though he keeps his promise this time.

Yue Qingyuan won't have a snappy and angry Shen Jiu to placate. He gets a confused and traumatised Shen Yuan who treats him like a stranger instead. Nevertheless, Yue Qingyuan is going to pour trinkets and favouritism on him all the same.

But did Yue Qingyuan kill Qiu Jianluo? Did Qiu Haitang witness it? Did Yue Qingyuan massacre all the people in the manor and burn it? He has no incentive to spare women like Shen Jiu did?

Will the Sect Leader punish Yue Qingyuan in some way? I don't think he's going to denounce Yue Qingyuan if he didn't already remove Yue Qingyuan from the position from the Xuan Su mishap though?

Or will the matter be buried until Qiu Haitang comes up to accuse Yue Qingyuan in Jin Lan City of being a lowly runaway slave who stole her own slave (and doesn't this implicate Shen Qingqiu?), mass murderer, and arsonist, along with other cultivators' claims of shameless favouritism, and the nasty secret of Xuan Su from the questionable cultivation method in the greedy persue of power? Is the fighting with Tianlang jun also a sham?

And if this kind of person is the 'esteemed' Sect Leader of Cang Qiong, how rotten would its Peak Lords, Hall Masters, and disciples be? (Shouldn't the Huan Hua Palace do the world a favour by putting the sinful Sect Leader in the Water Prison and conveniently take over their rival sect Cang Qiong?)

It's also called ScumCum which I think is funny

theyre so judgyyy. funny as fuck. as with most scum villian ships admittedly but i have a soft spot especially for 'same body' ships. its the almost but not quite selfcest-ness of it all.
