LCP Book Awards Longlists are being announced next Thursday, on April 6! Before we get to celebrating the poets and poetry of 2022, let's take a minute in appreciation of our incredible 2022 jurors! @canadianpoets Meet the 2022 Gerald Lampert Memorial Award Jurors: Jannie Edwards, Alvy Carragher and Greg Santos. "Prizes are tricky and I felt reading the wealth of books submitted, that on any given day, a different book might win. That being said, I am proud of the selection we made, and believe each of these poets has created a book that more people should read." –Alvy Carragher "I was in awe of the high quality and diversity of poetry collections being considered for this prize. Alongside my fellow Lampert jurors, reading through this dazzling constellation of books was a daunting but ultimately rewarding experience." –Greg Santos See full juror comments and biographies: (poets.ca/2022-book-awards-meet-the-jurors) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqdSi0vA3CAMoWt-zfi2VZ4K96soXlz727jPpU0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Honoured to have an interview featured in ‘Demystifying the Manuscript: Essays and Interviews on Creating a Book of Poem’ edited by @kelliagodon and @susanrich18, published by @twosylviaspress. I’ve been reading through my contributors copy I picked up at AWP and it’s full of wonderful advice, interviews, essays, and helpful resources. While it’s great for new poets looking to figure out how to put their first collection together, it’s also handy for those of us who are more experienced authors, but who might feel stuck on how to approach our next new projects. Check it out at the following link and temporarily in my bio: (https://www.amazon.com/Demystifying-Manuscript-Essays-Interviews-Creating/dp/194876718X) . . . #gregsantospoetry #demystifyingthemanuscript #twosylviaspress #poetry #poetrycommunity #writingcommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/CqS452sg-Ta49W0AwA1PMQVE8R5kvHyu2j-JF40/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Friday snapshots. It was finally time for our “Cambodian Poetry, Prose, and Translation Today” panel to take place. I was incredibly moved by Putsata Reang and Mylo Lam’s readings, and it was wonderful to hear Sokuntharay Svay sing! Many thanks to Sharon May for moderating the panel, as well as sharing excerpts from ‘Out of the Shadows of Angkor’ anthology. Thursday Seattle and AWP snapshots. It was so surreal to able to meet and chat in-person at the AWP Bookfair with so many wonderful writers that up until now I’ve only interacted with online. Shout-outs to some of the writers who appear in the pics here, including Kelli Russel Agodon, Annette Spaulding-Convy, Erik Noonan, Donna Vorreyer, Pat Matsueda, Sokunthary Svay, Sharon May, Putsata Reang, and Mylo Lam. To cap off the day, I went out for dinner with a group of Cambodian writers, some who I mentioned above and will be taking part in tomorrow’s ‘Cambodian Poetry, Prose, and Translation Today’ panel (Friday, March 10, Rooms 338-339, 3:20pm-4:35pm PST). Time to rest and recharge after my first full whirlwind day in Seattle. Looking forward to day two! #AWP23 (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpmXAgLOtyJjtt7b8_D6qydUVr5xWLh0AcJ7-M0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Find copies of my ‘Anne, George, and Me’ chapbook which I originally had made for the 2022 Expozine over at NDG’s @phoenixbooksndg! The chapbook features poems inspired by the artwork and life of Canadian painter, Anne Savage (1896-1971). What’s our connection you might ask? My childhood home was the house Savage lived in for most of her adult life and I’ve always felt haunted by her presence. This collection is a small sampling of a larger ongoing project that intertwines the stories of Beaver Hall Group founding member Anne Savage, her half brother George - who mysteriously disappeared at the turn of the 20th century, with my own life story. Thanks again to Mel at Phoenix for the opportunity to have ‘Anne, George, and Me’ displayed at their local author and artist table! . . . #gregsantos #gregsantospoetry #annegeorgeandme #poetry #poetrychapbook #chapbook #phoenixbooks #phoenixbooksndg #supportindependentbookstores #ndg #montreal #montrealpoet #writingcommunity #bookshop #bookstagram #annesavagepainter #annesavage #beaverhallgroup (at Phoenix Books) https://www.instagram.com/p/CovUIRKvJVB0bpu2myJoL83bYFR4WIMocVVAXQ0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Grateful to Poetry In Voice / Les voix de la poésie (@pivlvp) for the opportunity to curate a Mixtape of poems that take "readers on a journey to experience the richness of words and life stories of different diaspora voices, allowing you to step into someone else’s shoes, even if it is just for a short while." This has been in the works for a while and I'm thrilled that my Diaspora Voices Mixtape is now online. I'm happy to feature poets and poems that have transported me or moved me in some way, and I hope they do the same for you. Don’t forget to check out my 'liner notes' introductory essay, the recommended readings and links if you want to dive deeper, and also SoundCloud audio of me readings some of the poems - I hope I do them justice. Check it out temporarily in the link in my bio or at the link below and let me know what you think. Thank you again to Poetry in Voice for this wonderful opportunity! Goodnight, Linda Pastan. She was a remarkable poet who I learned passed away at 90 recently on January 30, 2023. Here is my poem “Astronaut”, which was inspired by Pastan’s poem titled “Traveling Light.” My piece was originally published in the Nov/Dec 2019 issue of @thismagca. Go search out Linda Pastan’s writing. You won’t regret it. “Astronaut” after Linda Pastan Every time I take that giant leap outside our front door, I feel like I’ll miss our newborn’s entire lifetime. It’s as if I’ll be gone until a new Earth-like planet wobbles into view, or until Halley’s Comet smolders through the heavens once again. The gravity of it all leaving a crater in the craggy panorama of my chest. I realized that I never got a chance to post about having my work featured in ‘Out of the Shadows of Angkor: Cambodian Poetry, Prose, and Performance Through the Ages.’ Published in Fall 2022 through Manoa Journal (@manoa_journal), this groundbreaking anthology features over 400 pages of Cambodian writing in translation into English, as well as works by contemporary Cambodian and its diaspora writers. As a Cambodian transracial adoptee, having three poems from my book, Ghost Face, as well as a short explanatory essay included in this anthology means the world to me. I am learning how to embrace and reclaim my Cambodian ancestry everyday, combining it with my Portuguese, Spanish, and Canadian upbringing. So it is an honour and humbling to be featured alongside many Cambodian and diaspora writers that I admire and revere. Many thanks to the anthology’s editors for putting their trust and support in me and my writing. 🙏🏾 . . . #gregsantos #gregsantospoetry #ghostfacepoetry #manoajournal #cambodian #poetry #bookstagram #intheshadowsofangkor #writingcommunity #khmer #adopteevoices (at Montreal, Quebec) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7faogpZFMqEj60Ry7gk8fa51iBYqI2Hcp4s80/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
