Photography has been an enduring passion over the years while pursuing the craft and developing my storytelling. The journey and life it has afforded me has created a burning desire to produce iconic photos while continuing to be on the cutting edge of the profession. This is one of those moments in my career where I have an opportunity to show a small portion of my work and tell my backstory that many of you aren’t aware. To say there’s been sacrifices, hardships and challenges to remain in this profession is an understatement in today's world of over saturated media content. The flip side has been the opportunity to join athletes and friends on some of the wildewst adventures to the greatest mountain ranges, rivers and oceans of the planet while nurturing strong friendships of trust, teamwork and accomplishments along with the countless failures. Photographers are solitary artists, on the hunt for the next image or story and always on the opposite side of the lens, rarely having the opportunity to present a body of work which captures all of their history. Independent print media is alive although it has been on the decline since the digital age and with that we have lost the ability to smell, feel and see the photos in print magazines and books which takes you to another dimension of storytelling. I’m humbled and honored to present this cover image of Jeremy Nobis along with my profile gallerie and hope you will support print magazines/books in the future. I’ve been working tirelessly, reviewing thousands of photos for the last few months on this edit, captions and words and wanted to thank @theskiersjournal staff @kadekrichko @bigwaterbigearth @andrewmarshall on the most recent issue of The Skiers Journal. I have the utmost gratitude to all of the friends, family, athletes, clients and mentors that have supported this path through my life. Without your help and comitment none of this journey would have been possible. Remember to take chances, buy the ticket and enjoy the ride. With much love to all of you G. #printmagazinesforever #printmagazinessmellbettertheninstagram #skiing #skiphotography #ski #skipornisbetterthesex #skii (at Planet Earth) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVlyX66rZC-/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Story to the photo as told in @theskijournal I had heard the rumors of an unknown skier who my ski partner, @flannertanagan, called, "Front Flip Bob." Rumor had it he was doing the first front flips into a number of the heavy lines in Jackson Hole. After a chance meeting on the tram dock with "Bob" I expressed interest in shooting him when the conditions and weather aligned on one of Jackson Holes big backcountry lines. It wasn't in the best condition with some avalanche debris and a steep 45-degree landing making it even more intimidating. As we approached the line, Kilmain was nonchalant and sized up the jump within a minute. Floating into the void with perfect style--hands calm and skis together, he stomped a perfect landing while I watched in dismay. From that day on "Front Flip Bob" lived up to his name. Dear David and the Powder Magazine Production Team, I'm here to support you and the team in these challenging times and sorry to hear about the magazine's closure. It was early in my life when the Moe brother's, Powder Magazine, would come careening into my life creating a skier out of a flat land boy from the Midwest. I wanted to let you know that Powder Magazine changed my life..........it changed me for the better and would be a defining part of my life, love and passion. David, you have been one of my greatest supporters and mentors over the years. I owe a great deal of my profession to you, one of the greatest photo editors of the magazine for taking me in at an early stage in my photography career. Thank you from the depths of my heart for giving me an opportunity that would eventually lead to being a senior photographer. I wanted to thank you and the staff for all of the memories, the travel, the beautifully crafted feature articles, the iconic gallery pages, the snow filled smiles and the life altering powder days I've enjoyed working with you and the publication. There will be another chapter at Powder Magazine. The collective ski tribe and myself will do whatever is necessary to keep the flame burning, like it has burned inside me and many others over a lifetime. Let me know if there is anything I can do to support or raise money for the next generation of the magazine. We'll get the team back together again, for the future of skiing, for the future of a lifestyle and for the love and indescribable feeling we're all a part of called Powder magazine. With much love and respect to all of you <3 We'll see you all when the snow flies ( ) ( ) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF8Y6v8F0nr/?igshid=190z9qtuovgbw

I’ve captured a lot of crazy shit at this location over the years and seen clean runs along with some heavy carnage. This has to take the prize and most likely is the first R1 Shredder descent to my knowledge. Hats off to the @unknownskier for threading this line and styling a perfect descent on this impressive class V rapid. (at Wyoming) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEa1GUpD3Qz/?igshid=fsznmnl8d95x

With over 30 expeditions under my belt in my adventure photography/film career this mountain had to be one of the most rewarding as well as most challenging climbs due to the difficulty of access in the Andean Winter. In September of 2019, after 4 previous attempts by our team leader, our expedition crew achieved the first Winter ascent of a new route on stratovolcano Tupungato, 21,560 ft. via Chile (2nd winter ascent) Are expedition leader @rafealpease named the route, "La Ruta del Chiquillan" in honor of the indigenous tribes that use to roam these beautiful and desolate Andean valleys. The project was rewarding as we completed the project with 100% human powered approach, a true "sufferfest" with no animal, mechanical or infrastructure support other than driving our truck to the trail head. The expedition team carried over 750 lbs. of gear, for a total distance of 149.29 miles and climbed over 44, 476 ft. in a span of 20 days. 1 To say the least, it was a grueling expedition on our team's physical and mental state and tested our fortitude to reach the summit and make a partial ski and snowboard descent given the lowest snowfall in over 70 years in the Central Andes. In order to push through the tough days and document the team I partnered with @hempfusion, a Hemp derived CBD supplement company that has been an integral part of my expedition diet in my recent projects. HempFusion’s products have helped me with better sleep and the aches and pains I dealt with on this expedition. The completion of this expedition is part of a greater film and story project which hopes to preserve this area as a future national park for the Chilean people where this area's access has been restricted in the past due to multinational mining companies and the Chilean government. The project wouldn't have been possible without our committed team @rafealpease, @joonasmatilla @jskiclimb @papotapia @erichroepke @outdooroots Photos @gregvondoersten Expedition photos @tomas.munita Mining photo of Andina mine at 16,000 feet next to Olivares glacier. Dear Earth, I’m sorry we have forgotten the value of your beauty and preservation of all your sentient beings. Although we try to honor you on Earth Day maybe it’s our wake up call to the world to change the paradigm in the future and listen to what your trying to communicate to us. Although all these pictures aren’t of beauty they’re a testimony to the way we treat our planet and animals that must change in the future. Even though we started this day 50 years ago there is much work to be done to save our planet. I will continue to fight for our rivers, mountains, oceans, animals and climate to honor you and preserve what’s at stake for future generations. 1) The Blue Marble as taken by Apollo 17 on Dec 7th 1972. 3) “Mr Earth Day” Dennis Hayes, the true organizer of the 1st Earth Day April, 22 1970. “The big advances were all within 5 years of that first Earth day, Clean Air Water, Safe Drinking Water act, Endangered Species act. “The future of Earth Day is to make climate change and issue the public will vote on. 4) The first Earth Day, 20 million people around the world participated in the event. April 22nd 1970 , Manhattan Ave. NYC. 5) Los Bronces mine in Chile is one of the largest open pit mines in the world and is located near pristine glaciers of the Chilean Andes between 12-15,000 feet. 📷 @tomas.munita 6) Missoula, MT, 2018, pro grizzly bear protesters march against a proposed hunt in Yellowstone NP to preserve the Endangered Species Act. 7) The dam threatened Rio Maranon, the stem source of the Amazon River running from the Andes Mountains in Peru is currently under threat bymulti national corporations to possibly build up to 18 dams against local and indigenous groups water and legal rights. 8) Activist Painting near the Grand Canyon fighting for current threats to the river. 9) A climber on Mt. It’s with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my mother, Susan, “Gigi” Von Doersten on April 11 due to natural causes. She was a fiercely independent women who traveled the world widely and saw beauty in each day and moment she was alive. I’m grateful and blessed to have had her as my loving mother leading me to “go for” it in life and believe anything was possible no matter how high and far. We were fortunate to have you as our mother, matriarch and know you’ve been reunited w/ my late father Edward A. Von Doersten. We live in your honor and we’ll look forward to seeing you in another life time. With love 💕 https://www.instagram.com/p/B-8GdwSDOcZ/?igshid=68pumxsfumoh
