Barton is a magnificent mercenary. 

He is strong, intimidating, knows his way around his weapons and even his enemy’s weapons front and back, and made good decisions on the field. Magnificent of course, but as much as he would love to believe otherwise, his teammates would have to refer to him as imperfect at the end of the day. That is why he would have thought the amount of good decisions he made should cancel out the stupid.

Alright, so maybe he deserved the sharp cuff across the skull, the shaking of heads. It was all to be expected. So after looking up to find Greg standing between him and the rest of his angry friends, shielding him from their words almost as well as he wields his own shield, Barton found himself standing outside of his room after hours. Confused, and maybe his pride was a little scratched up.

He squinted, suspicion danced across his eyes. 

“The hell was that about, O’Brien?”

“Yeah real-real smart a’ ya doc.” Barton managed to cough through frigid water exiting his lungs and affectively his mouth. The arm wrapped around Roderick tensed before flinging the man onto shore, drenched clothing skipping the drying process entirely and crystallizing into ice.

“I-” Cough

“-thought I was-”

“-the dumbass in- in this relationship.” He retched, lake water spilling onto the gravel beach. Barton snarled and dragged himself next to the doctor, who was now shivering relentlessly and wasted no time in tugging off the drenched jacket and long sleeved shirt that stuck to his skin with much difficulty and tossed them aside. He then moved to unbutton Rod’s jacket and shirt. 

“Tell Greg not to yell at me about this.” Barton dropped, planting his bare chest against Rod’s and holding him tight.

A harsh ‘hwuk’ escaped Barton’s lungs as a rather scout shaped blur rammed itself into his stomach, rocket aimed for him instead finding home exploding against rain softened earth. 

However as effective as the rescue was, Barton came to the conclusion that he and Rory were, in fact, now rolling down a muddy hill at an incredibly high speed. He swallowed a yelp of pain as something caught his side, crunching the armour there and the flesh guarded beneath it. He instead resorted to a string of curses when his gloved hand refused to gain traction in the mud, and he and the Scout continued to bounce off one another and tumble straight into a vertical cave. 

It was a short fall, but the idiot landed straight on top of him. 

“Good going asshole, now we’re both in a wet hole.” Barton hissed. He barely mustered the energy to shove the smaller man off his back, but instead rolled onto his stomach and hugged his sides. Armour was shattered. “…Jesus.”

Rainy ceasefires always came with ridiculous demands. 

Barton hardly had the time nor the desire to babysit his coworker’s son, or seem the best candidate for the task. He expected the round little boy to cower when he frowned, or to cry upon laying sight upon the long pale slash on his face, but all the child did in the end was crook one arm across his mouth and stick the other out in front of him, blowing out a strange trumpeting noise with his lips. Barton frowned deeply, feigning deep thought. 

Charades. 

“Well obviously that’s an elephant, kid, you gotta go for a harder one if ya wanna beat me.” The corner of his lips tilted upwards in amusement whilst the little boy laughed across from him in his crosslegged position on the floor.  

“Try this on for size.” The Safeguard grinned as he simply went limp, laying down on his back with his arms folded over his stomach and closing his eyes.

(( HAHA OOPS didn’t get much RPing or ic stuff done this week like I had planned before going on a two week trip tomorrow,, so uh here’s another semi-hiatus notice because ya girl won’t be threading on a dang plane!!!!!

Also on a separate note, despite finally having been freed from my portfolio I still can’t find the courage or energy to start anything up again. So I’m hoping that this trip will really be my Break™ and spending time having fun with my friends will make me happy enough for this blog again, we’ll see. So for now I’m gonna have to blast, though look out for photo updates!!!! ))
