dr who episodes should sometimes open with a random scene set in a random room in the tardis with the doctor and or companion just chillin and vibin and it's truly fucking insane that they never do, never! ever!! i'm not even asking for like something important, just have an episode open with idk doc is reorganizing furniture in the tardis lounge-library-pool and then companion gives him a phone call or some shit it's literally so easy, it would make the tardis ACTUALLY feel lived-in
#yesss it's so silly that they never do this type of thing anymore#in 4+5's era you generally got glimpses into the bedrooms and you'd see the companion's chilling#and capaldis tardis felt very lived in because he had the books and chalkboard and even though we never actually got to see any other rooms#it was easier to imagine the characters in them because the main console room wasn't so empty#but ncuti's doctor hasn't really been given this#i feel like the disney series in general are so like. tell don't show instead of show don't tell do you get me#like they just expect us all to know that this is the doctor this is his best friend this is his tardis but they don't actually take the#time to develop any of this properly or show it on screen enough#idkk#doctor who

I have an entire notes app of dw opinions but I'll spare you for now and reveal them one at a time like God revealing the Quran to Muhammad. UNIT was handled much better in the 70s. somehow seasons 7-11 SHOULDNT have worked as an era the majority of which the doctor spends confined to earth with his only dubiously moral soldier friend the Brigadier (probably because BBC ran out of money) and yet it manages to be a solid era thanks to Jon Pertwee being that good, the Master being there, the restricted setting spawning new and more creative threats, and also Malcolm Hulke. The era the third doctor inhabits showcases a lot of the worst of humanity, and yet he comes out the other side with a newfound kinship with us more than he ever had with Gallifrey. Anyway back to UNIT. even though UNIT is a major player in the 70s, you never feel like doctor who is trying to say "the armed paramilitary science org is so cool kids" and every time it comes close, they hit you with serials like "doctor who and the silurians" "inferno" and "invasion of the dinosaurs". UNIT is a main character on its own, it has to be, but it's balanced out by a fiercely antimilitarist DOCTOR who may be friends with individual UNIT members, but he knows and we know that the only reason he helps them with their shit is because he has nowhere else to go, and that if things were just slightly sideways, they wouldn't think twice about treating him like every other alien threat.
What prompted this rant? Nothing. Nothing at all
#THIS#i feel like 3's era was pretty strong in its social commentary/politics like it wasn't perfect but as you say it#was clearly anti-militarist and also you had serials like the green death where environmentalism and the carelessness of corporations when#disposing of their waste etc was one of the main themes#the brigadier is like. a strong character because he's such a stereotypical Stiff Upper Lip Five Rounds Rapid military posho and he provides#a stark contrast to the doctor's whole ethos#UNIT are a main character but they're not necessarily supposed to be viewed as a main character we agree with or root for#anyway yeah i agree with everything you said basically#doctor who#classic who#new who
