Guinea Pigs are the Best

Hi there everyone!

I’m making this blog because I believe the guinea pig makes the best pets. Yeah, dogs and cats may be great but they have nothing on the guinea pig. And I think everyone should consider and look into getting one or more as a new friend.

Guinea pigs are super sweet and affection animals. They love to cuddle and hang out on your lap. They are very adorable with their little faces and big butts (they waddle a bit, it’s the cutest thing ever)! They are social creatures, they love attention and making friends with you or other animals. They might not always talk to you, but they do make great listeners. Guinea pigs are pretty good at keeping secrets.

They are extremely smart animals. Especially smart when they want their treats (WARNING: they like to work “the system” and get lots of treats, so be cautious when opening the fridge or that bag of potato chips)! They are also very curious little things, so make sure to keep an eye on them, especially if they are on a couch, they might get a little to close to the ledge.

Did you know that they can learn tricks just like cats and dogs?! That’s just how smart they are! It may take you a little while before you can start training them, you should wait to teach them tricks until they are at least a few months old.

They can get very excited, and when they do, they start to “popcorn.” Popcorning is essentially the jumping motion they make. Guinea pigs almost look like a little bucking bronco, just imagine them with a cowboy on them! This happens a lot if you pet/tickle them in just the right spot.

Make sure to give them lots of hay, pellets, and veggies (especially bell peppers). Guineas pigs are unable to produce Vitamin C on their own. Make sure to get them plenty of toys to chew on, such as wood items, their teeth are constantly growing. WARNING: do not get them the plastic balls to play in like hamsters do, the balls are extremely bad for your piggy’s back.

Plus, the sound a guinea pig makes is the cutest! Their little wheeks will melt your heart.

My Piggies

I may be a bit biased by my piggies are the best. Below this post are some photos of my silly little guys. The one with orange and black on the face is Dodger, and the one with the white face is Walter. Walter was my first piggy, I had got him my senior year of high school and unfortunately he passed away about a year and a half ago. Dodger we just got a little over a year ago. Some may think that guinea pigs have no personality, but they are such funny and full of personality.
