P-Whammy Product Review
The whammy bar itself is nothing new.  Since the 1940s we’ve seen the Bigsby, then in the mid-50s Leo Fender came along and changed well just about everything we know about electric guitars and basses.  The Stratocaster is probably the most common guitar you will see today that sports the whammy bar. Honestly before this week I had my Fender tremelo anchored down with 5 springs to make the tremelo near impossible to move.  The P-whammy’s goal is to improve all the flaws of the original whammy bar and give you their take on what you can do with a tremelo bar.  Even a whammy bar-hatin’ critic like myself was pleasantly surprised by the P-whammy. Interview with Megadeth Bassist David Ellefson
I first saw David Ellefson at the Hartke clinic inside Daddy’s Junky Music in Dedham, MA. What struck me most about him initially, is that he exudes a certain confidence, not born of cockiness but more a sense of purpose. In fact he speaks a few times during our interview about that sort of purposefulness a person can feel in their lifetime. Although I did meet with him briefly at the clinic, our interview did not take place until about a month later when Dave was overseas on tour. It was great to speak with Dave, a legendary metal bassist, about his early beginnings on the bass, his thoughts on trends in the industry, who inspires him nowadays, his years away from Megadeth and his welcome return.

Legato Articulations for Electric Guitar
Legato articulations on electric guitar can impart a smooth and flowing quality to fast scale passages. The principle we will investigate in this lesson is picking only the first note you play as you change strings and then articulating all subsequent notes on that string by using hammer-ons and pull-offs, until you change strings again.

It’s Alive! Neon Strings by DR
Did I or Didn’t I? Crank up Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and just stare at the glowing strings? First time I saw these strings was at D-Town Guitars. Sort of near Philadelphia and sort of in the middle of nowhere. They had the neon green strings on some no name shredder guitar from the 80s. Man, I thought they were cool. As you can see, they even glow in the dark.

Jam Cable by Ampridge Product Review
So you’re at band practice. There’s roughly 5000 watts of power and a whole ‘lotta speakers but when your singer wants to play you a new song he wants to cover his selection of audio is off of one microscopic cell phone speaker. Due to the frequency roll off: the kick drum and bass guitar aren’t there and well your ears are fatigued from your guitar player’s new halfstack so you can’t hear anything anway! Scenario two is a bit less colorful, but happens often: You’re craving to jam along to your favorite tunes but have nothing to ampilify your MP3 player. This is where Ampridge steps in with The Jam Cable. The Jam Cable allows you to plug an MP3 player and additional 1/4″ input or microphone into your existing single input guitar amp.

Get To Know:Frank Bello, Bassist for Anthrax
It has happened to all of us, the first nice Saturday of Spring, you’re outside and Frank Bello of Anthrax blows up your cell phone.  Wait what? Jodi Stevens is doing a more in-depth interview with Frank and asked if I wouldn’t mind covering the gear end of the interview.  Of course I wouldn’t mind talking bass with Frank and after the interview I felt the feelings were mutual.
Frank is in the middle of putting out a new Anthrax record, finishing clinics with David Ellefson of Megadeth (So far they’ve shut down New York and Boston Sam Ash stores) and he’s gearing up for more dates of The Big Four (a tour that includes Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth).  I fumbled around for a pen, notebook and recorder
