The world has seen so many forms of technology that has now shaped our current lives. Undeniably, media is one of these forms of technology that has made the most impact. What is media, or more specifically, what is social media and how has it shaped the world now? Social media in particular has made communicating and socializing via the internet more specific, fast and efficient. The advent of the internet has made the use of media even more apparent in our daily lives. As a senior high school student, I strongly feel that I can use media and information to the best of my abilities to make my world a better one. In its many forms, media has been used to spread information all over the world. As such, I have all the information I need in any topic I want to research on at the tips of my fingers in just one mere click of a button on my phone, in a laptop, a tablet or a desktop computer. I just need to turn the television on and search the myriad channels available to know about what is happening around the world, be it in current events, new movies, the latest trends or even stream music that I want to listen to. On a personal level, this advancement in technology has made it easier to communicate with my relatives from around the world no matter what time of day it is. I can use media and information to relay messages that once upon a time would take days or weeks to reach the other side of the world. Through media and information technology, I can also freely express what is on my mind in the way that I think best. This can be a disadvantage sometimes because it makes me feel like I can just rant anytime I want so I have to be careful with my use of social media. Instead of using it for nonsense ranting, I can spread positive vibes and cheer on people who might feel down at some moments. Lastly, media and information literacy would be put to good use if I make it as an avenue to encourage people about its positive effects like to spread good news and to foster communication and friendship.
