Preface

Fast-speed life leads to various online entertainment, like watching videos and playing games. Without doubt, headphones or earbuds play a more and more important role in all this entertainment enjoyment. However, wearing headphones or earbuds for a long time will definitely do some harm to our hearing and you will also feel painful for the pressure in ears. Especially when I have kids, I must decrease volume of videos, games or wear headphones to not disturb kid’s sleeping or studying, just frustrated! 

So I searched online and wanted to buy a better equipment to solve this problem, and then I saw SONY neck-mounted speaker, and it really attracted me a lot, you know, no more pain in ears, no disturbance for others, wider sound field. Everything is perfect, except the price, almost 2000RMB!

Later I found Bose's soundwear, but the same high price make me do nothing again until I found Bluedio HS in Tmall.

Bluedio, the brand I originally saw on Amazon hot new releases, but with further searching online, I realized that it’s a Chinese local brand and an audio equipment manufacture which had created for about 20 years.

Unbox

The package of the product is a little big, for this is a neck-mounted speaker not in-ear earbuds. And its name HS comes from initials of vocabulary “Hurricane Speaker”.

On the back of the product box, there is speaker structure and some listed features like Bluetooth 5.0, support phone call, FM and TF card music playing, etc. All these are introduced in English and some also in other languages. Apart from these, some contacts are also left there, including Facebook, Twitter, Ins, Wechat and so on. 

In the box, besides the speaker, an user manual and a Type-C charging cable are also equipped.

Its outlook is similar with Bose SoundWear, like a scimitar.

And also like the spaceship in the film Alien and a hard plastic scarf.

The front touches frosted, feel good but it will easily be contaminated by grease on hands and dust in the air.

The back is glossy, although some fingerprints and grease are left on it, like the front, we can clean it easily.

Low quality doesn’t come with its low and competitive price. It has good workmanship with no burr and other flaws.

Ergonomic fit design, fit your shoulders and make wearing comfortable.

The following is the parameter of the speaker. Adopting Bluetooth 5.0, brings low latency and stable Bluetooth connection. 3-4 hours of music or talk time, feel free to watch movies.

Only weight 220g, very lightweight.

Speakers are set in both sides, with two passive speakers to enrich bass, it looks like having 4 drive units.

A raised brand logo “Bluedio” is set in the middle of the speaker.

All keys are set in the right side, including multifunctional key (power on/off speaker, search FM channels), Volume -/+ key (adjust volume and switch songs) and Mode switching key (switch modes between BT-TF-FM). But I think it’s not so comfortable to press the keys.

Beside the keys, there’s a Type-C charging interface and TF card jack.

In TF card mode, both of lossless WAV and lossy MP3 formats are supported, but it doesn’t support lossless Ape or Flac, which is a little bit pity for me, because WAV files are too large to download from the Internet.

The microphone for the call is also on the right side.

Using experience

Only support connecting your devices like cellphone with the speaker by Bluetooth, not 3.5mm audio cable. After powering on the speaker, “HS” will show on your cellphone Bluetooth list and then you just need to click connect with it.

By scanning the QR code on the package, you can download Bluedio App to enjoy other extra features and services like burning in earbuds with music there. But you need to pay for some music. I think it will be better if all these music are free.

Lightweight and ergonomic fit together make wearing more comfortable.

Low-key outlook won’t attract many people’s eyes even though you use it outside.

Compared with cellphone or other mobile devices, the speaker has improved sound quality, strengthening volume and showing more sound details.With two drive units and passive speakers in both sides, we can greatly enjoy the surround sound.

By connecting the speaker with your cellphone, it’s easier to locate where the enemies are when you play games.

By wearing it, we can easily immerse ourselves in the video for the sound of footstep, wheeze and breath can be heard clearly even in low volume. It’s difficult to do that just by the TV, unless you set the volume to larger. Besides, with Bluetooth 5.0, sound will be more stable and we can do other things in the same time like going to the toilet or eating something in the kitchen while playing videos.

But I also found some disadvantages of it. For example, the speaker won’t turn as you turn, so that we should manually adjust it after turning to listen to the surround sound. Besides, there’s no 3.5mm audio jack in the speaker so that I can’t control audio by using gamepad when play Xbox.

Bluetooth 5.0 also brings low latency, which makes synchronous sound and images when using the speaker to watch TV plays.

Neck-mounted speaker, no sizes restriction, but brings soft and clear sound. So Bluedio HS also suits kids and won’t harm to their hearing.

Bluedio HS speaker also adds a FM feature which is lacked in Sony and Bose speakers. Convenient using, crystal-clear sound effect, very suitable for the old who likes listening to radios.

Moreover, when you power speaker on and use FM again, speaker will automatically back to the radio channel you listen before.

As for phone call, it’s quite good when using at home even without ANC, but it’s not recommended to use outside, because others may hear your talking and you also will be disturbed by the surrounding sound.

Speaker On Shoulder?! Using Experience of Bluedio HS Neck-mounted Speaker

1. Preface and brand introduction

1）.Purchase

I like innovative gadgets, and always hunt these online. Then I found SONEY and Bose neck-mounted speaks. They looks interesting and I can’t wait to buy them until I saw the price, about 2000RMB ($283), a little expensive for me.

Recently I found another neck-mounted speaker, Bluedio HS wireless Bluetooth speaker, with the price only about 150RMB ( about $21). I thought that there’s no reason not to buy it at once. And I did so.

2). About the brand

I didn’t know much about this brand “Bluedio”, so I searched it online and found that it was originated from 2009 and already has a history of about 20 years until now. They got the brand in America, and then sold their audio equipment to home and abroad.

They mainly sell the products through platforms like Amazon, Aliexpress and ebay, etc. and get popular in many countries like German, America, Italy, etc, ranking at the first place among product category of Amazon market.

2.Product overview

Black packaging box, logo is set on top left corner, product photo in the middle and product name “Hurricane Speaker” on the bottom left.

On the back of the box, some product features are listed on the top, including excellent sound quality, remote call, voice assistant, charging battery, ergonomic design and mode switching.

And English introduction of product structure in the middle. I think they also should provide Chinese introduction.

At the bottom, there are some other information and contacts. For example, Weibo, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.

3. Product outlook

The speaker is 232mm×176mm, a little larger than that I expected. It’s in black and shapes like an arch. The front touches frosted, feel good but it will easily be contaminated by your fingerprints.

The back is glossy and made of hard plastic. I think it’s better to add some soft cotton material to make it wear more comfortably.

Two speakers are set in both sides, with two passive speakers to enrich bass. This design makes left and right channel separated, strengthens surround sound effect and enables you to enjoy stereo.

In the right side of the speaker, we can see some keys. Multifunctional key (power on/off speaker), volume “-”key (switch to previous song), volume “+” key (switch to next song) and mode switching key.

Keys press well, but not so comfortable.

Beside these keys, we also can see a Type-C charging interface and TF card slot.

Type-C interface provides me much convenience in using, because my cellphone and Switch, etc all are Type-C interface. So one Type-C charging cable can meet all my demands, very convenient!

TF card slot also makes us feel free to listen to local lossless music. But now, most people prefer listen to online music or download music in their cellphones, not TF card. Maybe people who has poor network can try this.

But no silicone dust plugs are used in these interface, and the producer doesn’t mention whether the speaker is waterproof or not.

4. Different modes

1). Bluetooth mode

Bluedio HS speaker adopts Bluetooth 5.0 and brings quick and stable Bluetooth connection. After connecting with cellphone successfully, speaker’s endurance will be showed on cellphone.

Compared with normal portable speakers, Bluedio HS has a more stereo and clearer sound, and you can evidently feel its surround sound effect by wearing it. Especially when you listen to rock music, you will feel like you are in scene , and the wonderful stereo surround sound makes you immerse in it.

I like listening to sound novels when I’m free. Sometimes I wear this speaker to listen to it when having a walk outside or staying at home. Nice experience!

2). TF card mode

The speaker supports inserting TF card and music of WAV, MP3 format. When playing local lossless music, you can have a clearer sound effect than that of online music. And it’s also nice to download some sound novels in TF card.

In my opinion, TF card mode is more suitable for the old who don’t know how to listen to online music and novels. So we can download some music and novels they like for them to give them some entertainment.

3). FM mode

I’m quite surprised that this speaker has FM feature! You can search channels among 87.5MHZ - 108MHZ. Although I seldom listen to FM now, I tried it and found some channels with clear sound quality.

4). When I use this speaker

Some people may think that this kind of speaker is useless in daily life, but actually not. For me, I often use it in the following scenes.

My husband loves playing games. Every time he plays games, I’ll feel noisy if he doesn’t use headphone and let the sound of game out. But in the same time, I’m also annoyed if he uses headphone, immerses himself in the game and doesn’t give response to me when I talk to him. But now, with this speaker, he can enjoy the games, he can hear me, too. Love it.

Recently I play a game called あつまれ どうぶつの森, but in some parts the game is a little bit boring. So I wear this speaker, playing the game and listening to music in the same time.

When having a walk with headphones or earbuds in your ears, you may can not hear clearly the traffic or surrounding sound, it’s definitely dangerous. But this speaker can make you listen to music and surrounding sound in the same time. With lower volume, it won’t disturb others around you either.

V. Wearing and operation

Lightweight body and ergonomic fit, make wearing more comfortable. And the neck-mounted design also free your hands.

But for some slim girls, its hard plastic may discomfort you. And I still think that it’s better to add some soft cotton material to make it wear more comfortably.

Simple key pressing control, very convenient.

1). Switch modes

Short press Mode key, you can switch to BT, TF and FM these three modes.

In FM mode, short press power key to search for channels automatically; short press volume key to change channels; long press volume key to adjust volume.

2). Control music

In BT/TF mode, press once mode key to play/pause music.

Long press volume -/+ key to switch to previous/next song.

3). Control calls

Press once mode key to answer phone call, press mode key again to hang up phone call. Long press mode key to reject phone call.

4). Others

After power on speaker, the speaker will automatically shut down in about 2 minutes if there’s no operation.

VI. Summary

Advantages:

Affordable and competitive price.

Support BT, TF card and FM three modes.

Surround sound effect.

Shortcomings:

Hard plastic material, a little bit not comfortable to wear.

No dust plugs are set in the TF card slot and charging jack.

Even though this speaker still needs some improvements, but I think you can try this.

Cost-effective earbuds with auto pause feature and Qualcomm chip: Bluedio Fi in-ear true wireless Bluetooth earbuds

Preface:

Bluetooth technology has developed a lot, from lossy transmission, audio distortion, heavy latency to supporting various high bit rate transmission, it has showed us a huge improvement! Now, most Bluetooth earbuds have changed its wireless mono into TWS (True Wireless Stereo) and adopted Bluedio 5.0.

Bluetooth 5.0, it achieves up to 300-meter wireless transmission distance, upgraded transmission rate and lower latency, Because of Bluetooth 5.0, many Bluetooth 4.0 version TWS earbuds have to be upgraded or even reproduced to remain their competitiveness in the market.

Apart from Apple earbuds, most earbuds in the mid-market adopt RTL8763B and qcc30xx chip, like the Redmi AirDots earbuds that I tested before, which used RTL8763B chip but have heavy disconnection problem. Compared with this, there’s no doubt that Qualcomm chip does a better job in Bluetooth stability, supporting APTX and building higher sound quality. But in the same time, Qualcomm chip’s cost is a little bit higher.

Product display and using experience:

Bluedio Fi is packed in a transparent box, and its name Fi seems to be composed of two letters in the word “faith”.

I learned this brand mainly through Amazon before. On the package box, you can see muti-language product introduction and contacts in international platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and domestic platforms like Wechat and Weibo.

There’s also a specifically designed Bluedio App for earbuds burning in and other instruction controls. Very convenient for using.

In the box, there’s a set of earbuds, charging case, user manual, two extra different sizes of silicone earplugs and a Type-C charging cable. The earbuds and the charging case are cleverly packed separately to avoid long-time charging.

The earbuds shape like a dark drop. Where the “L” and “R” marks show is also the touching sensor area.

Compared with my Airpods Pro earbuds, Bluedio Fi has a smaller body, but obvious seams on its surface. 

Bluedio Fi supports phone call, but not with ANC feature and strengthening call quality. More phone call experience will be added after I used it.

Metal shiny cover and strict drawing body together, the charging case has a more elegant and graceful outlook. It has a almost same size with Airpods, but can stand in the desk.

Logo only shows at the charging case, very low-key.

Earbuds will automatically charge when you put it in the charging case, and automatically power on when you open charging case. Operation is simplized a lot.

The workmanship of the charging case is quite good, no visible burr and other flaws inside. And the charging contacts is neat.

There’s a Fi logo inside the charging case. When you charge the case, it will turn red.

And recording LED light will fresh when you put earbuds in the charging case.

Besides, the charging case adopts Type-C interface and is equipped with a charging cable, extremely love it !

Moreover, earbuds is equipped with three different sizes (S,M,L) of soft silicone earplugs, make you wear comfortably.

Even my wife, who hates in-ear earbuds, felt no pain and pressure when she wear it.

Looking from its shape and outlook, we can feel its great fit to ears. It’s just awesome that earbuds won’t fall when you move.

Fi two earbuds can be used synchronously or separately. When you listen to music, you can use them synchronously and enjoy the surround sound. And the power will also show out on your phone when successfully connect them.

In synchronization mode, after connecting one earbud successfully, your cellphone will automatically pop out another earbud’s pairing request. The whole connecting process is very simple.

By scanning the QR code on the package, you can download Bluedio App to enjoy other extra features and services like burning in earbuds with music there. But you need to pay for some music. I think it will be better if all these music are free .

With its adopted high-quality QCC 3020 chip, Bluedio Fi has a great improvement and upgrade in transmission rate and lower latency. Apart from the chip, it also adopts 6mm large drive unit to bring crystal-clear sound and strengthens bass tuning.      

Powerful bass, contagious middle, very good performance. But the treble is a little harsh. I think it’s very good for this price.

Compared with other Bluetooth earbuds which only support AAC (Advanced Audio Coding), Bluedio Fi supports APTX, more effective audio coding, 16bit, 24bit audio and up to 48KHZ radio frequency, to remain more sound details.

Bluedio Fi also has very low latency. The sound and the image is synchronous and I quite enjoy watching movies with this earbuds.

Auto pause, a feature that is only supported in high-end earbuds before, makes music automatically pause when you take off earbuds. I’m quite satisfied that Bluedio Fi has this amazing feature,           

Some true wireless earbuds have a bad performance in phone call because of the long distance between mouth and earbuds microphone. However, Bluedio Fi adopts their own patented VFT technology and effectively improve phone call sound quality.

Although the patented VFT technology is applied in this earbuds, the microphone have no ANC function so that we still will be effected by the surrounding noises when we in the outdoors.

Earbuds endurance is just like the product official introduction, providing about 6 hours of using time, and I usually charge it per 3-4 days. With additional 4 times of charging from the charging case, I can feel free to use it to listen to music no matter when I’m on a business trip or at home.

Only slight tap on the touching sensor area, you can control music play and pause, adjust volume, switch songs or answer phone call, etc. Conveniently. For its business earbuds positioning, the designers didn’t set too much personalized flash lights, but for me, it’s still one of the best earbuds with competitive price.

With black technology True Wireless Stereo come true, more and more companies have launched various kinds of true wireless earbuds since 2019, with prices ranging from hundred RMB to thousand . Certainly, different brands have set different headphone types, product positioning and target customers.

Recently, I have tested a new released wireless Bluetooth earbuds, Bluedio Fi, a business positioning earbuds with features like supporting APTX and Qualcomm, low latency and lossless music enjoyment.

Created in 2009, Bluedio is a Chinese brand, but through Amazon, ebay and Aliexpress platforms, it also conquer overseas market, like America and Italy, etc, ranking at the first place among product category of Amazon market. More brand information can be knew from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other websites.

Product overview

Simple and transparent package, you can see the earbuds and its accessories through the box. Besides, they also have a clever packing design, separately putting earbuds and charging case to prevent the earbuds from being charged all the time.

In the package, there are also some detailed introduction on earbuds structure and some main stream platforms of this brand, like Weibo, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, etc.

Moreover, a specific Bluedio APP is developed for customers to burn in their earbuds and enjoy other additional features. And this APP can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on the package box.

3.Earbuds outlook

Simple and elegance outlook, suitable for business using.

Black charging case, with baking painting cover, looks elegant and ablaze, but if you touch it, your fingerprint will be left on it. In the middle, you still can see the brand logo “Bluedio”.

And the body of the charging case is adopted strict drawing process, comfortable to touch and won’t leave your fingerprint.

Dell xps13 for computers are all type-C interfaces, which are very convenient for charging. Only one data line is needed.

On the back of the charging case, a Type-C charging jack was set in the middle. Type-C charging is now widely applied in most cellphones, computers and other devices, like my cellphone and DELL computer, all are charged by Type-C interface. For me, I definitely love this, very convenient.

There is a hollow square in the middle of the charging case cover, which just shows out the internal "Fi" indicator light.

Some certifications and logos are also showed at the bottom of the charging case.

Open charging case, it’s black color design is very matched with its business positioning.

Earbuds are set separately on two sides, the middle is a protruding indicator and also the earbuds model “Fi”

Inside the charging case, you also can see “L””R” marks in the cover, this is a little bit extra for me.

Just like most other Bluetooth earbuds, magnetic suction design and two charging thimbles are adopted inside the earbuds charging slot, earbuds will be absorbed in the slot and then automatically charge.

Bluedio Fi is a kind of an in-ear earbuds, it’s very small and lightweight, each earbud only weights 3.4g.

It shapes like a drop, with “L”and “R” in the middle and an indicator and microphone hole aside.

Abandon clumsy key press, Bluedio Fi adopts intelligent touch controls to control music, phone call and volume, etc. All these can be done by slight tap and long press seconds on the touching sensor area.

Ergonomic fit and lightweight design make it wear comfortably. No burdensome in ears so that I even forgot to take earbuds off after I stopped the music. Besides, it’s also equipped with additional two different sizes of earplugs, you can select the one that suits best your ears.

Two charging contacts on the earbuds are matching with the charging thimbles inside the charging case, and earbuds will automatically charge when you put it the charging slot.

It also adopts 6mm drive unit, which is larger than other earbuds’, so its sound quality is quit good.

Moreover, it support IPX4 waterproof and can effectively prevent damage from water splashing in daily life.

True lightweight! The whole earbuds and a charging case whose dimensions is 64mm×30mm×40.3mm together, totally only 37.9g!

Earbuds and Bluedio App using experience

1). Bluetooth connection

Adopted 5.0 Bluetooth chip, earbuds connect with Bluetooth quickly and stably.

Two earbuds can be used separately. Bluetooth devices“Fi L””Fi R” both will be showed out in your Bluetooth list and you can check their left power.

What’s more, they adopt built-in sensor chip to make earbuds auto pause. That is to say, music automatically pause when you take earbuds off, and music automatically replay when you put it on.

I like this feature a lot, because I often use this earbuds in the office to listen to music while working, but it’s inevitable to be interrupted for other things. With this feature on, I can auto pause my music and audio novel when I’m busy in other things.

2). Bluedio App using

Scan the QR code on the package, you can download their specific Bluedio app.

In this App, I found that there’s a huge part for forum communication.

In personal settings, you can burn in your earbuds, and change some smart settings.

But for me, it make me feel like that it’s an ads group, not so practical and suitable for Chinese buyers.

More earbuds using experience

1). Sound quality

I’m quite satisfied with its noise reduction feature. With ANC feature on, it really builds a noise barrier for me to block out sounds of chatting and typing, and give me a ideal calling surrounding to communicate with clients. But when I go out to the street, I still can hear a little bit traffic and other noises.

4). Endurance

This earbuds support about 5-6 hours of using. With additional 4 times of charging from the 650mAh charging case, I usually charge it 2 times per week and use it while working and on my way to work and home.
