- he was the first one ready to comfort you when things went wrong w your significant other

- “you deserve so much better y/n”

- he was always there

- holding your hand, rubbing your back, trying to make you laugh after crying

- you were oblivious to his feelings for you

- the way his heart beat accelerated whenever you called

- or how hard he tried not to kiss your cheek when you said you were thankful for him

- but he knew you didn’t feel the same

- so he saved himself the humiliation that came with rejection and valued your friendship instead

- that is

- until the summer after graduation

- “this time it’s just gonna be me and you! no boyfriends or girlfriends, just the two of us”

- you confidently said

- he excitingly agreed and began planning out the most perfect summer

- “we can go to the beach and stargaze ! there’s also a new cafe i wanna you to take me to”

- he saw you consistently, falling more and more in love

- it felt good to have you all to himself, not having to worry about fixing other people’s mistakes

- and then one night while walking home from the movies

- you held his hand

- you continued walking, ignoring his burning stare towards your hands

- he smiled and interwinded his fingers, walking closer to you

- about a block away from your home you shook his hand off of yours

- “sorry haha” “for what?” “that was weird of me”

- jeno went home with butterflies in his stomach that night

- perhaps you’d end up falling for him too ??? he hoped anyway

- as summer rolled out, you became ‘busier’ with university plans and the duo saw each other less and less

- “hi i miss you… _______ is having a party tonight, wanna go bestie?”

- since it had been so long, jeno was anxious to see you

- he wanted to make a move since things had been going so smoothly and there wasn’t anyone else you were talking to

- he was pleasantly surprised when you held his hand again walking out of your home

- “everyone from school is gonna be there so it’s gonna be fun” you said happily

- you constantly locked and unlocked your phone

- jeno noticed and gently squeezed your hand

- “is everything ok?” “perfect”

- once there, he noticed you getting closer

- he liked you being clingy

- “let’s dance” you said suddenly, pulling him up from the stool he sat on and into the living room

- jeno was so utterly intrigued with the way you moved he failed to noticed your attention wasn’t on him at all

- “you’ve suprisingly gotten better at dancing?maybe you can come by the studio and we can d-“

- you grabbed his face and quickly kissed him, your eyes watching someone else

- he slowly reopened his eyes, legs turning into jell-o

- “w-what was that?” he smiled shyly

- “i like you, jeno. i’ve always liked you” you said loudly

- he was speechless, shaking his head in disbelief

- “i-i’ve always liked you too- wow i”

- you giggled and kissed his cheek, taking his hand again

- he couldn’t stop smiling, his eyes sparkling under the colorful lights flashing

- “hey it’s getting kind of hot in here,do you mind grabbing me something to drink? I’m gonna step out a bit”

- he nodded and quickly kissed your cheek before walking away

- jeno inhaled deeply before putting his phone away

- he grabbed two water bottles and walked outside where there was a smaller crowd spread across the yard

- “jeno!” you waved him over, reaching your hand out

- you were talking with your ex, who jeno hadn’t heard about since graduation

- “oh … are you guys a thing now?” s/he asked

- “yes, we’re together and we’re happy” you answered quickly

- his ears turned pink again and his heart beat faster

- “yea… we’re dating” he slowly repeated, looking towards you

- you took your water bottle and wrapped his arm around you, keeping your eyes locked on your past lover

- jeno‘s eyes stayed glued to you… this was the summer he imagined: his arm wrapped around you securely, his feelings for you being acknowledged and returned, it was perfect.

- “anyway, it’s getting kind of late so jeno and i should probably be heading home” you smiled

- “ok cool, well it was nice seeing you again y/n..”

- you clung onto jeno’s arm as you both walked out into the dim street

- “wOW that was so good jeno!” you squealed jumping up and down

- he cheeks turned a hot pink quickly, thinking you were talking about the kiss

- “i honestly didn’t think you LIKE liked me haha” he held wrapped both arms around you tightly and kept walking

- “wait what? i meant they looked so jealous watching us! you acted really well” you gently pushed his arm off your shoulder

- “a-acted?”

- “listen i started talking to y/ex/n again over the past few weeks and they’ve changed so much over the summer. i didn’t tell you bc i didn’t know if they were being sincere but tonight proved they still have feelings for me”

- “you kissed me - you told me you liked me as more than a friend” he said, his self confidence slowly deteriorating

- “i … never said i liked you as more than a friend. i had to kiss you, they were look- why are you getting upset?”

- jeno ignored his heartache and frowned

- “is that why you wanted me to come out with you tonight? is that why you were being so touchy? so they’d get jealous?”

- “jeno are you really getting upset over this? you’re my best friend, i couldn’t have done it without yo-“

- “you’re not supposed to kiss your friends if you don’t mean it! i thought-i thought you really liked me”

- your eyes slightly widened

- “oh jeno i -“

- “just save it. i should’ve known you only saw me as a shoulder to cry on - you didn’t even consider my feelings when you were acting up for that guy.”

- he left you at your doorstep and walked home without saying goodnight, ignoring your calls and texts for the remainder of the summer
