"What I love about the heart is that it’s capable of breaking in infinite ways; may we never live long enough to experience all of them, but may we live long enough to experience the ways the heart can repair itself for subsequent breakings. The cycle of rupture and repair is a requirement of living, a cost of surviving, something that goes hand in hand with another reality of survival: that, throughout your life, you may not only lose people but also gain them."
In Defense of Despair, Hanif Abdurraqib (2025)

Ok, loves, so we've all got the message that joking about suicide is bad for your mental health. Now we need to get on "joking that the planet/all of humanity has no future" is bad for societal health/encouraging resistance to bad shit."

i kind of feel like if you take "don't bomb iran" as an endorsement of the iranian government, you're not intellectually ready to engage in conversations about real-world politics. Go talk about steven's universe instead

I had a dream that I got an into an argument with a journalist who misgendered me in an article about unhealthy coping with climate change lmfao. I was apparently sunbathing in the foothills during a wildfire and she referred to me as “this gentleman, seen here sunbathing in the ashes.”
Lowkey tho that is actually the vibe for 2025

bro neither i nor any of my friends have removed any of our body hair in years. when we go swimming, the pubes are just out and it’s no big deal. no one has ever said anything about it to any of us. 💯 safety in numbers ig
we as a society have surpassed the need to shave our bikini lines. we’re either making swimsuits into actual shorts or just letting ppl show their pubes in public bcuz im tired of this
#strongly encouraging all of yall to have bodies in public#bodies with fat and scars and cellulite and bruises and tan lines and LOTS AND LOTS of dark hair!#like not to be corny but this is an extremely easy way you actually can be the change you want to see in the world#‘we should let people stop shaving’ like… YOU CAN LET YOURSELF STOP SHAVING! lol

When people talk about community they often discuss it in terms of “finding” it. The assumption being that a strong community already exists somewhere, pre-arranged and ready to be joined. But community is not a static state in which a group of people exist. Community is dynamic and made up of multiple relationships each with their own unique dynamics. To create (and maintain!) community, you have to be active and intentional about it. You have to invest in those around you and have the humility and bravery to let them invest in you as well.
Being in community is hard, messy work but it is always worth it. This is how we as humans survive, by relying on each other.

the thing with large language models and other "AI" technologies is that I think they're mostly overhyped, kind of disappointing, and generally a solution in search of a problem. unfortunately the most vocal of its critics seem to base their arguments on pure thought-free vibes, naive views of intellectual property, and the sort of interactionist dualism i usually associate with sunday school teachers
