I finally caught COVID-19 and spent my isolation painting and watching YouTube.

I redrew a piece from 2017 of the OG Hero of Wings inspired by Art Nouveau, and I think this reflects how much I've learned.

A fun little comic idea I've been thinking about is a genre switch story where a shounen anime protagonist trades places with someone from a magical girl anime. The shounen character has to adjust to fighting enemies with his heart instead of his fists etc.

Also a talking mascot creature is present in both genres and acts as a group manager for both teams.

I literally had trouble sleeping because I was thinking about Sabaidee-Man.

His real name is Piya Phoukham and he's in his senior year of high school. He's been protecting San Francisco since he was a freshman and tries to balance his responsibilities between school, helping at his family's restaurant, and being Spider-Man.

His story takes place in San Francisco instead of NYC because there's a higher Lao American population there. His family owns a Lao restaurant that is frequently mislabeled as "Thai", much to his chagrin. His parents are both alive and are very supportive, but have no idea he's Spider-Man. Another major supporter in his life is his Uncle Boun, a retired Muay Lao fighter.

Design wise, Piya's look is based off my beloved cousins lol. He is not a fashion expert at all, his older and nerdier cousin is the one who designed his super suit. Still working on the cousin character.

I'm not super involved in Spider-Man lore, but my mahou shoujou roots are steering me towards supernatural powers instead of radioactive. Like web generation, because of the prominence of raw silk in Lao textiles. Another idea I've toyed with is Piya using small chakram that can ignite on command.

I love making up characters can you tell?

Hi I haven't been able to think of anything else since Across the Spiderverse yesterday.

So of course I had to design a Lao spidersona.

"Sabaidee" is how to say hello in Lao so of course I had to use that pun.
