Wasted Sunset, Forlorn Sunrise: Halbarry Big Bang Collaboration!

For @halbarry-big-bang! I really enjoyed working with @rattle-em-spooky-jones! So much of the emotion from their story is the contrast between Hal and Barry's relationship before and after Barry's disappearance, so I tried to capture some of that in a pair of images.

“I…” He scuffs his shoe against the squeaky marble floor, “don’t remember?” He smiles sheepishly. It looks odd. “What,” he starts slowly, “do you mean you don’t remember?” “Exactly that, I have no clue what happened the past week.” “Two weeks.” It’s just for a split second. Barry’s gaze shiftes slightly, intense and primal. Hal could almost convince himself that it was nothing, if it wasn’t for the heat of fear still burning his skin. Barry goes missing for two weeks. Hal seems to be the only one to realize something else has returned.

I decided to give the @halbarry-big-bang event a shot!! Based off the fic that @taxi-cab-to-slowtown wrote for the event!!!

His ears perked up when a loud squawk echoed from the trees and a cloud of birds flocked from the branches. His legs took off downhill, tripping over the lumpy soil as his goods thumped against his thighs, threatening to make him lose balance. He thought he'd collapse halfway down the hill when his knee gave way and his foot slipped on something and everything was a blur of brown, then he's sliding towards the bottom, knees skidding over cement and elbows taking the brunt of the fall before his feet finally caught up and stumbled across the street. He threw a glance over his shoulder to find no one, but it didn't calm his nerves.

The story contains some pretty heavy themes so please be mindful of your triggers when approaching the work.

What a week!

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the traditional portion of Halbarry Week 2023, whether by sharing the event, leaving likes/kudos/comments, or as a creator!  

At the time of posting, we had 15 creators across Tumblr, Ao3, and Instagram who collectively posted 56 individual works (75 if you count each prompt fill!).  Thank you you all for creating for the Week and hope everyone had a great time!

The prompt schedule might be over, but we encourage everyone to continue enjoying and interacting with the posted works, whether it’s on Tumblr at #HalbarryWeek, on Ao3 at the Halbarry Week 2023 Collection, or on Instagram at #HalbarryWeek2023!  If you have anything you’re still working on, feel free to share them to the tag/collection so that we can find them and share them!

Catching You: Halbarry Big Bang Collaboration!

For @halbarry-big-bang! I had a great time working with Sweet Apples on this project! We both gravitated to the Nascar aesthetic, and it was a fun challenge trying to capture the energy of a midair rescue!

Racefliers, athletes who compete against the worlds best and fastest flyers for a chance of being the once in four years champion. Barry Allen, a name that Hal only knew from his friend’s mouth as Ollie raved about the champion title and the influence “Flash” carried over fans. The racer didn’t have any significance to Hal though, at least until Ollie convinced Hal to help him vandalize the Flash track insignia the day before the first race of the year during a drunken night. Catchers, fliers hired to catch racers in distress. The same position that Hal was forced to pretend to be in when he awoke the next day in the stadium. Waiting out the event out of moral obligation, Hal found himself in another pickle. A collision sending the Flash crashing down- and taking Hal with him when the vandalizer turned Catcher attempted to catch him. The legalities afterwards continued the problem. Video footage and Hal’s witness to the collision bringing a discovery that it wasn’t just an accident, but the coverup of Hal’s involvement could turn his statements futile at any turn. And the budding looks and quiet conversations between him and the recovering champion was a whole new problem by itself.
