somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

hey gang what with The Heat Dome and all i'd like to take this moment to encourage everyone to look up and familiarize yourself with whatever organization might exist in your area that does outreach/support for unhoused/homeless communities. it can really help to know who to call who might have a street team or the ability to get resources to someone who is struggling or unwell in the heat but hasn't reached the threshold of 'call 911 right now' emergency. these teams often also know the location of any cooling shelters, emergency aid stations, etc, and can help unhoused people who are suffering get access to whatever help exists for them in your area. i am very familiar because of my job with the local street teams and organizations, but many people are not! this is a great chance to get to know what resources exist and how to contact them.

keep an eye out for your unhoused neighbours, please. it's bad out there for a lot of people right now, and however bad the heat is for people who are housed, it's much worse for those who are unhoused and at risk of serious illness or death.

Feminist fantasy is funny sometimes in how much it wants to shit on femininity for no goddamned reason. Like the whole “skirts are tools of the patriarchy made to cripple women into immobility, breeches are much better” thing.

(Let’s get it straight: Most societies over history have defaulted to skirts for everyone because you don’t have to take anything off to relieve yourself, you just have to squat down or lift your skirts and go. The main advantage of bifurcated garments is they make it easier to ride horses. But Western men wear pants so women wearing pants has become ~the universal symbol of gender equality~)

The book I’m reading literally just had its medievalesque heroine declare that peasant women wear breeches to work in the field because “You can’t swing a scythe in a skirt!”
