"aww!" they said, "it's a flag!!"

but the thing is: they're little. a lot of them don't really have a handle on all their mouth sounds yet.

Why am I posting this?

Because I know I have a lot of young people following me, and because over the past few years, I've seen a shocking amount of anti-gay rhetoric in MY comment section. Of my Steven Universe fancomic. An extremely lgbtq-friendly show.

So what gives? My best guess is, I have a very wide following, and a lot of these readers are pretty socially insulated in conservative spaces that don't allow them to explore the concepts of the other side of the argument.

I'm not about to judge children on the environment they were raised in... but I'm also here. I'm a part of the environment. And I'd like to offer some perspectives.

It's so important that Utena does not Revolutionize the world at the end of Adolescence. In the show it seemed to be somewhat implied that "The Power to Revolutionize the World" was either impossible to obtain, simply restarting the duel cycle, or the power to free Anthy from her suffering (not sure which interpretation I prefer). In the movie though, once Utena wins her duel against Jury, Anthy tells her she has the power now. In the movie it's a real thing.

Utena could have revolutionized Ohtori and freed everyone from the pressures of their roles, but that isn't narratively satisfying. The whole point of the show was Utena realizing that being a prince to Anthy robbed her of her agency. Utena was still treating her as an object. She couldn't save Anthy by doing that. She just needed to offer her hand, and give Anthy a reason to trust her enough to take it.

No one in Ohtori could be saved either. The whole point is that making decisions for other people is objectifying. Anthy and Utena leaving together was enough to show them it was possible (and worth it) to save themselves. And Wakaba, Juri, Miki, and Saionji saying they would follow Utena and Anthy when they were ready is proof that it worked.

use search for a cause or ecosia to support the environment instead of google

use thriftbooks to buy new or used books (they also have manga, textbooks, home goods, CDs, DVDs, and blurays)

use flashpoint to play archived online flash games

find books, movies, games, etc. on the internet archive! for starters, here's a bunch of David Attenborough documentaries and all of the Animorphs books

burn your music onto cds

use pdf24 (available online or as a desktop app) instead of adobe

use unroll.me to clean your email inboxes

use thunderbird, mailfence, countermail, edison mail, tuta, or proton mail instead of gmail

remove bloatware on windows PC, macOS, and iOS X

remove bloatware on samsung X

use pixelfed instead of instagram or meta

use NCH suite for free software like a file converter, image editor, video editors, pdf editor, etc.
