the complete and utter contempt so many online leftists have for disabled people is both totally disheartening and very embarrassing and frustrating. it's very clear that for all the posturing they see disabled people as annoying and that accommodating them is ultimately inconvenient and they dont want to think about it. something about this discussion just turns self proclaimed communists into fox news reactionaries. dsa using asl applause at events is bad bc it's cringe and fail, no one actually needs grocery delivery bc all disabled people are just able bodied twitter microcelebs with adhd, making jokes about how everything is ableist is okay because disabled people are annoying.

i truly don't understand it at all. how can you claim to be a leftist and see some of the most marginalized people in our society as inconvenient annoyances. so many disabled people live miserable lives not bc of their disability but bc the systems fail them spectacularly in every way and refuse to budge on it. they live on poverty pittances from uncaring governments, they beg for basic things every functioning modern society should have like ramps and elevators in train stations. and then, when all else fails, they resort to assisted suicide because the world doesnt want them to live. and somehow this is superfluous or bourgeois. atrocious mindset. absolutely abysmal. but get your jokes in about ableism on twitter.

So when you reblog, it's a little like crossposting, if you imagine everyone's account as being their own personal subreddit. Except here, we make long chains of crossposts that form conversations.

While on reddit reply threads happen in the replies of posts, the replies here are actually pretty bad for having conversations imo. Replies to posts are better for saying something about a post that you wanna put there but not be as visible as a reblog comment.

Also tags! When you reblog, if you type comments you're using your outside voice. The tags are your inside voice. People use them to quietly add to a post more than they use them as actual tags. If someone reblogs that post from you, your tags won't show up on the reblog; however, if you add body text, that will get reblogged.

There's also what's commonly called "peer reviewed comments," where replies or tags on a post will be screenshotted. It's often considered more polite to add any comments you have about a post in the tags, and wait for someone else to consider them interesting/funny enough to share with the class. that said, you probably won't be executed for just adding a normal comment, especially on a post with a lot of notes. Use your judgement.

i want to give a bit of info to everyone who only knows miguel from the movie:

•he is not a vampire! his fangs are from his spider dna and are filled with paralyzing venom :) fun fact: the size of his fangs makes him mumble so other people don't see them while he's talking!

•he wasn't bitten by a spider like most spider people! spider dna was atomically spliced directly into his genes making him 50% spider

•he doesn't stick like other spider people! he uses the talons on his fingers to climb around and such! fun fact: these talons can easily slice through solid metal :)

•he doesn't have a spider sense! instead, all of his senses are majorly enhanced!

•yes! he always moves like that! he automatically moves like a feral monster because that's what he is!

•he has a fiancé named dana and a little brother named gabriel! they are the two most important people in his life :) fun fact: gabriel recognized that it was miguel in the spider suit the first time he saw him in it!

•his eyes are red because they can see in major details and in complete darkness. fun fact: this makes his eyes super sensitive to light, which constantly gives him migraines :)

•yes! his ass is that huge in the comics, too! everyone in the comics are always commenting on it ^^

•miguel is irish/mexican :)

•he is NOT the original spider man of his universe! there was a peter parker in the past before the year 2099

Tumblr Migration 2: Reddit Boogaloo

We all know about the Twitter immigrants, but there seems to be radio silence on what's happening now with Reddit users from certain subreddits doing a similar thing.

What's happening?

Reddit is restricting their API later this month and killing off third-party apps. An AMA (Ask Me Anything) with the CEO Steve Hoffman was held and it was clear that he would continue with the changes.

In protest, thousands of subreddits across the site are planning to go dark for 48 hours on June 12th. Some are planning to continue indefinitely until the changes are reversed.

Okay, so how does this affect Tumblr?

Some subreddits (mainly queer and left-leaning meme ones, don't worry too much about Reddit Atheists™ overrunning us) are encouraging their users to jump ship to our beloved - and beloathed - hellsite. There will be another influx of new users and many will be unfamiliar with how the site works.

What do us Tumblr users do?

Show them how to use the site; introduce them to the site's culture, tell them to reblog shit and curate their dashboard. Sorta like how we welcomed Twitter users back when they flocked here. Kungpowpenising optional.

I'm new from Reddit, what do I do here?

CHANGE YOUR PROFILE PICTURE AND BANNER TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN DEFAULT BECAUSE THIS SITE IS FILLED WITH BOTS AND YOU MIGHT BE MISTAKEN FOR ONE. This is the FIRST thing you should do after getting a blog.

Other folks can help you with stuff like curating your dashboard or creating sideblogs (or you can look shit up) but please, PLEASE just give yourself an icon and reblog some stuff so people don't mistake you for a bot
