Idle hands are the devil's handy work. Older than the trees, but younger than the dirt.

“Our dear little ones, thank God, are healthy; Nixa [Grand Duke Nicholas Alexandrovich] has become very sweet, he starts smiling when I say to him: “Hello, Nikolai Alexandrovich;” and Lina [Grand Duchess Alexandra Alexandrovna] as you know, is my passion; when I have her with me, I always ask her : “Where is Mama?” - and she always points me to your portrait.”
— the future Emperor Alexander II of Russia in a letter to his wife, the future Empress Maria Alexandrovna.

Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, is wife Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and their son, Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich. October 1913.
"The centenary of the Battle of Leipzig. A cold, sunny day. Went for a walk in the morning. At 11:30, the whole family went to the Cossack barracks for the Convoy's celebration. After the prayer service and parade, we had breakfast, to which the available officers of His Majesty's Life Guards Cossack Regiment were invited. During a tennis game, the entire Black Sea Fleet arrived and anchored from the pier to the middle of Livadia. After tea, I received Grigorovich. Finished with papers at 10:30." - Tsar Nicholas II's diary. 17 October (4 October O.S.) 1913
