1/3 Concrete Step for Improvement:
On either end of aisle setting up a machine Kiosk equipped with flashing lights, and possible vibration for announcements, sales, samples, product information etc. Different buttons for types of Signed Language each consumer uses. The intercom connecting with the Kiosk via WiFi to transcribe the over head announcement for a variety of occasions for each customer, and consumer whom is deaf can easily access and have attention drawn to and the opportunity of replaying the message or ability to continue to read the passage with no time limit per kiosk.

Current Situation
What the current situation is: Someone with the communication disorder being Deaf, in a public setting being at a place of business, school, hospital or gas station, any place with Announcements, Intercom, Customer Service etc. The Deaf individual is facing no access to missed information from over head intercoms, pick-up orders (calling out a name), announcements, or even emergency situations can pose a direct threat to those Deaf persons.
Background information: Stores wanting to display sales, emergencies (evacuations, weather threats, locking up early, etc), announcements for many situations (car head lights on, calling their name to go to the front desk, a spill on a certain isle, a limitation on purchasing products etc.) Many deaf individuals have faced these situations all too many times in and out of the Tampa Bay Area.
Examples to understand the barriers to accessibility that currently exist: No flashing lights, No options for most stores in the local Bay Area that give assistance specifically those whom are Deaf.

2/3 Peer-Reviewed Articles, Meaning/Relevance& Citation
Clear explanation of Meaning and Relevance: “ that they can activity independently and productively..” put very well, taken from this article directly to explain its clarity and relevance, is to assist those who are deaf and to bring awareness to those who are hearing to the communication and accessibility that is needing to be established more frequently and more easily for those who are Deaf. Same as to what needs to be done more frequently also in the Tampa Bay Area.

In a local Tampa Bay community store, the intercom currently playing music but just called over for someone to pick up at the Pharmacy, for privacy I excluded their name and filmed the music. Someone Deaf would not have access to know over the intercom their Pharmacy, photo, or any announcement over the intercom to that information.

1/3 USF Peer-Reviewed Article, Meaning/Relevance & Citation Clear explanation of their Meaning and Relevance: “ However, meaningful achievement gaps in reading and spoken language persist despite the engineering marvel of modern hearing aids and cochlear implant.” Taken directly from the article to help clearly point out the relevancy of this. With technological advances, access and “assistive” hearing devices it is still very difficult for many factors, just because of a hearing device does not mean the full meaning or context is heard, understood and helpful for the individual.
