what’s the right reaction when your cat’s gone? and not just any cat, the little one you’d taken in that night on the street, shivering and alone, barely the size of your two hands. the one who followed you from room to room, slept curled against your side, and had learned exactly which spots around the house were his.

now, those spots were empty.

you’d checked the usual places, under the couch, behind the laundry basket, in that one sunny corner by the window, even the kitchen cabinets, just in case.

your chest tightened as you moved from room to room, calling his name, half-waiting for the soft pad of paws against the floor.

then, from the back of the house, you heard the faint creak of the door opening.

every nerve in your body went on high alert because you weren’t expecting anyone.

you turned toward the sound… and froze.

there, standing in the open doorway, was a shirtless guy you’d never seen before. dripping wet, as if he’d just climbed out of your pool and water trailed down his chest, pooling at his bare feet on the hardwood.

your breath caught and your mind screamed danger, but your body refused to move. you just stood there, wide-eyed, frantically scanning for something, anything you could use to knock him out if it came to that.

and then, he looked at you. his eyes lit up, his lips curling into an easy smile, like you were an old friend he hadn’t seen in years. “y/n!! you’re home,” he said warmly.

“excuse me… how do you know my name? and why are you in my house?”

“i’m Jungwon.”

“…who?”

he tilted his head, still smiling as if you were the one being weird. “your cat.”

“my cat? what the-”

“yeah,” he said like it was the most normal thing in the world. “the one you found outside that convenience store two years ago? you wrapped me in that old hoodie and fed me tuna straight from the can.”

your jaw went slack. “you... how-”

“and you call me ‘baby’ when you think no one’s around,” he added with a smirk. “oh, and sometimes ‘gremlin,’ when i knock over your plants. which, by the way, i told you that wasn’t my fault.”

“you… you’re insane. i don’t know how you know all that, but my cat is a cat. four legs, tail, fur-”

“-orange fur with that little white spot on my chest,” he cut in, tapping the center of his bare sternum.

you stared. “what the hell is going on?”

“i was in the pool,” he said matter-of-factly, as if that explained everything. “testing out my new legs.”

“yup.” he grinned, like a kid showing off a new toy. “i don’t know how long it’ll last, but the moon was really bright last night, and then... poof.” he wiggled his fingers for effect. “i woke up like this.”

you took a step back, pressing yourself against the counter. “so let me get this straight. you’re telling me my missing cat… is now a shirtless guy dripping water on my kitchen floor.”

“well, technically, i’m your missing boy now,” he said, as if it were an upgrade.

you blinked at him, still processing, and muttered under your breath, “i really need that coffee.”

you gripped the edge of the counter, eyes darting from the puddle of water forming under his feet to the white patch on his chest.

“how am i supposed to just… accept this?” you blurted out. “my cat is now...” you waved vaguely at him “this. do i kick you out? do i call animal control? is that even allowed?!”

he raised a brow. “animal control? really? after everything we’ve been through?”

you sputtered. “we haven’t been through anything-”

“yes, we have!” he cut in, stepping closer like you weren’t in the middle of an existential crisis. “you were the one who nursed me back to health, remember? and who sleeps next to you every night?”

“you mean next to my legs,” you corrected, backing up a step.

“same thing.” he leaned his hip against the counter like he owned the place. “besides, you always said you wished i could talk back. now i can. congratulations, wish granted.”

“this isn’t a wish,” you said, voice rising. “this is some weird fairy tale gone wrong.”

jungwon just shrugged, reaching for the mug you’d left out and inspecting it like he was about to drink from it. “got any milk?”

you blinked at him. “…are you serious right now?”

“i’m always serious about milk.” he looked up at you with that same wide-eyed innocence he used as a cat. “and tuna. do you have tuna? wait, never mind, i’ll find it.”

before you could stop him, he was already halfway to the pantry, dripping water across the floor.

“oh my god, i live with a feral man now.”

he glanced back over his shoulder, grinning. “correction. you’ve always lived with me. i’m just easier to talk to now.”

you stared at him for a long moment, weighing your options. kick him out? call someone? pretend this is normal and hope it’s just a fever dream?

“fine but if you scratch the furniture in that body, you’re sleeping outside.”

let's put a rest to "let enha rest"

i think they've made it clear by now they will rest when they feel like they need to, as per the most recent interview. however you may feel about that statement, i want to encourage fellow engenes to see this issue from a different perspective because i understand both sides to a certain extent. i also understand that ultimately this topic is a lot more nuanced than it seems on the surface. (i'm not going to adress all the nuances in this post bc if i did i'd be sitting here all day).

i do think it's absolutely okay to show concern when the members do or say something that invokes concern but going forward let's try to do it in a way that acknowledges their autonomy as human beings. in short: don't try to tell them what they should do and don't make it seem like they're incapable of making their own decisions.

as a kpop group they are part of an industry that is often unforgiving towards their humanity and they are constantly scrutinized for the smallest things, so i think the best thing we can do as fans is take a step back and let them do what they think is right for them, regardless of how we feel.

because of the heavy parasocial aspect of kpop we often care very deeply about our ults but sometimes we forget that no matter how much we care, what they do is ultimately not within our control. let's not forget that. what you can control is how you show your support to them, so let's always remember to do it in a way that keeps in mind that they are their own persons and that doesn't put more unneccessary pressure on them.
