I’m constantly dreaming up new things and searching the world for inspiration. Sometimes a painting will show up in my mind fully formed and I will work as quickly as I can to get it out on paper before the image dissolves. Sometimes I have no idea what I’m going to make and I just pick up a brush and see what starts to happen, letting the piece become what it wants. I try to keep my mind open and grateful to these bits of invisible creative muses that I’m given. One of my favorites from 2018...love working on this series so so much. I begin by culling through magazines and found materials and combining these with my illustrations and photographs. These are then collages together and handcut into hundreds of flowers that I coat in acrylic and cut glass glitter and crystals. I shape these into 3D fliers and assemble them into layered compositions, encasing them like a jewel into a custom acrylic shadow box. I invite you to observe from far away and then to come in closer for a different perspective and hope to delight with surprise and hidden gems of color and pattern. Can’t wait to get back into my studio to work on my latest in this series. H What fun things are you working on this week? I love working with different materials and mediums in my practice and pushing the boundaries...the idea of play and serendipity is so key....sometimes it works and often it doesn’t...but once in a while I discover something new and there is such surprise and delight with that.
