What Size Guitar Amp Do I Need? Choosing The Right Amp Size
Have you been in the market to buy a new amp but really finding it hard to figure out what size you need? Whether you choose a small practice amp right up to a full Marshall stack depends on a lot of different factors. Size, price, and tone are some of the things you need to consider.
Two Ways To Define “Size” In Guitar Amp Terms
In the world of guitar amplifiers, the term “size” can take a couple different meanings:
wattage – How many watts an amp has.
physical size – basically how large or small, light or heavy it is.
Do when you are thinking about the size of your amp, you have to think about both of these aspects above.
Number of Watts The Amp Produces
The size of the amp is important because it dictates how many watts an amp can produce. For example, a 100 watt amp will be louder and have a larger speaker than a 15 watt amp. If you are playing with other musicians, it will also determine the level of volume. A 100 watt amp will be more suitable if you are playing in a large band.
Physical Size Of An Amplifier
The reason that size may be one of the first things to consider is that you don’t want your amp to be too big. You want it to be portable enough for storage in a small home or apartment. Some people don’t mind having a very large amp but if you’re living in a place where space is limited, then it makes sense to get something that can easily fit in a closet or under your bed when not in use.
What Is A Good Size Amp? Well…Factors To Consider
How big is the room you are playing in?
A loud amp can be very good for a large room, while a small amp may do better in a smaller room. An average size of an amplifier is about 15 watts, and there are also amps that are much larger and stronger. Some amps are even capable of producing 100 watts or more. When you are deciding on the size, size of your room is only one factor to consider.
Another important factor to consider is how much you will be using your amp. If you plan on playing in a small classroom where the volume must remain at a low level, you may be better off with a smaller amp because it will produce less noise than a larger amp.
Are you practicing by yourself or with a full band?
Are you practicing with a full band or, like most musicians, just by yourself? This is going to have a huge impact on what size amp you choose. This means that it is also a good time to think about the future, and whether you want to play any gigs in the near future. If you are thinking about a band ask your friends and other musicians if they play in a band. Asking around is often a good way of finding out the size of an amp that you would need to play with them.
What is your budget?
Another question to answer when choosing the right amp size is your budget. How much money do you have? Are you planning to spend a lot of money on an amp? Or are you planning to buy the cheapest one that you can find at a local music store? Or are you planning to go somewhere in between these two options.
The price of an amp will usually be determined by the size of the amp. If you want a really small one then it might cost more than if it was bigger.
Other Considerations
Another important consideration is what kind of sound you are trying to achieve. Amp size can have quite an impact on this. If you want clear, crisp tones, then a smaller amp with less features may be better. However, if you want an overdrive and distortion sound for hard rock and metal music, a larger amp with mid-range or bass response will be ideal.

Gibson Burstbucker
The Gibson Burstbucker is a set of humbucking pickups designed by Gibson and Bill Lawrence. It’s their modern-day interpretation of the classic vintage pickup that Buddy Holly, James Burton and Duane Allman played on their guitars. The Pickups are constructed using a wound coil measuring approximately 42AWG. The guitar pickup wound coil is then surrounded by a “magnetic jacket” of about 1800 strands of copper wire. This is what gives the Burstbucker it’s unique look and feel.
The Gibson Burstbucker Pickups feature 4-conductor wiring and come with a pair of push-back braids to help reduce noise during cable tone transfer (the braids will not significantly improve the pickups’ tone).
Natural and “Hot Out-of-the-Box” Burstbucker pickups are also available. The Hot out-of-the box pickups are designed for specifically for use in a recording environment, where it is most important to have a pickup that smells like a guitar, but most importantly still produces the characteristic tone of a drop cap humbucker.

Classical Vs Acoustic Guitars – How They Are Same & Different
When understanding and comparing between classical vs acoustic guitars, you must look at the different types of sound, styles and materials. All guitars produce a variety of sounds, but classical guitars have a very specific sound as they are typically played with nylon strings. Acoustic guitars have steel strings which makes them more versatile for playing various styles of music and different types of guitar chords. Even if you are not an expert on music or instruments, this article will help to distinguish between the two types of guitars.
What Is A Classical Guitar?
A classical guitar is a stringed instrument with nylon strings that is typically played by fingerpicking. A classical guitar has a lower tension which makes it easier to play and allows the strings to vibrate for a longer period of time. The nylon strings give off a brighter and more defined sound. Classical guitars are primarily played in traditional Spanish, Brazilian, Irish, Scottish, Russian and Polish music styles.
Strings
Classical guitars are typically strung using nylon strings. Nylon classical guitar strings are easier on the fingers, and can be used for a wide range of musical styles. A nylon string is an alternative to the more common steel string acoustic guitar.
Neck Size
The neck size of a classical guitar is traditionally measured in inches and corresponds to the length from the nut (where the strings are held) to the 12th fret. The most popular size is 24 inches.
Bridge
A classical guitar bridge is a piece that sits on the body of the guitar and supports the strings. It’s usually made from rosewood, ebony, or bone but sometimes plastic is used. The bridge holds the strings at the proper height from the fretboard.
The classical guitar’s bridge normally has something called a saddle in it. The saddle is positioned to hold one end of each string in place as it passes over the bridge and toward its tuning peg.
Body
The body of a classical guitar is traditionally made from wood, such as spruce. The backs and tops of classical guitars are typically made from softer woods than those used for electric guitars, to compensate for the high level of tension (they must withstand the increased tension of extremely tight Classical guitar stringing) and to reduce weight. Though modern classical guitars are often made in response to customer preferences for a particular wood, this is not always the case; some makers have published guidance about which woods are preferred. The softer woods used can also contribute to the overall tonal character of a guitar.
Body sizes can vary considerably between brands and models.
Sound
The sound of a classical guitar is very beautiful. It can be soothing, mellow, and even uplifting when played skillfully. Classical guitars tend to have a low, warm sound with soft overtones. A classical guitar will not sound as loud or as harsh as an electric guitar will. Although a classical guitar can be louder than an acoustic guitar it has a singing quality that is less harsh on the ear.
Many players of classical guitars believe its tone has more life than an electric guitar because of the difference in the materials used for construction and string tension.
What Is An Acoustic Guitar
An acoustic guitar (also called an acoustic guitar) is a stringed instrument with us, the sound waves from the strings are not amplified by electronic devices in order to produce sound. They are plucked by fingers and typically have steel strings.
Strings
The strings on an acoustic guitar are made of metal, they are lighter and the tension is less than that of a classical guitar, they also give the acoustic guitar more of a “twangy” sound.
Neck Size
The neck size of an acoustic guitar is generally bigger than that of a classical guitar, because of the bigger body, which in turn gives more room for the sound to resonate. The size of a guitar can have an effect on its tone and playability. Generally, the bigger the neck, the better it is for the instruments tuning and play ability.
Bridge
The bridge of an acoustic guitar is glued to the top, and strings are held in place by small pegs called bridge pins.
Body
An acoustic guitar body is typically made of a single piece of wood, usually maple, and has a hollowed out sound box or “resonant chamber” called the “sound hole”. While traditionally craftspeople have used the wood of fruit trees (such as the red mahogany of West Africa) for acoustic guitar construction, today’s guitars are usually made from high-grade hardwood maple. The sound box is usually constructed from three pieces of wood stapled together, giving an overall strength that can withstand the tension of a high-quality steel strings.
Sound
The sound an acoustic guitar can produce is characterized by a diversity of intensities. The acoustic guitars are capable of producing sounds that vary from light crescendo which gently ebbs and flows to the louder forte which gradually rises to a peak and then decays back down in volume and intensity over a longer period. The acoustic guitar’s sound is often described as “woody” because there is a percussive attack and the tones tend to be more distinct and clear than other stringed instruments.
The intensity levels in an acoustic guitar can be played individually or simultaneously. For instance, the crescendo and forte techniques use gradually increasing dynamics which are played separately. Crescendo applies to the loudness of the notes played, whereas forte refers to variations in volume over time.
What Are The Differences Of Each?
The first major difference between acoustic and classical guitars is the style of music each of these types of guitars are for. Classical guitars are used to create the more classical and Spanish sounding music styles and acoustic guitars are used to create more blues, jazz and rock music.
The next obvious difference is the type of strings used. Classical guitars use nylon strings which allow for a softer and warmer sound. Acoustic guitars use the traditional metal strings that are used on most other types of guitars.
The body size of an acoustic guitar is larger than that of a classical guitar. This is because acoustics must have a larger body to create the needed resonance that will ultimately help amplify the sound. The only exception to this would be the smaller sized acoustic guitars for children.
The sound of an acoustic guitar is different than that of a classical guitar because of its construction. A steel-string acoustic guitar produces a slight twangy sound, whereas a nylon-stringed classical guitar produces a mellow tone when played.

How Much Tension Is On A Guitar Neck?
The amount of tension on the guitar neck depends on the thickness of strings. A typical electric guitar has a string gauge that is .009, .011, .016,.024,.032 and .042. The heavier the strings the more tension on the neck. For an acoustic guitar the bigger the horse-shoe type, the more tension.
The pressure between an electric and acoustic neck tension is different as well. Electric guitar necks are typically made with maple or a softer wood so that the strings can be pressed down more easily. The result is a lighter tension when the neck is straightened out. Acoustic necks are made from a harder wood like rosewood, which is tougher to press down on and results in a heavier tension when the neck is straightened out.
What Is The Purpose Of Tension On A Guitar Neck?
The guitar’s neck must be properly adjusted for string height and fret buzz.
Adjusting the truss rod can help take out or add to the amount of stress (tension) placed on the neck.
Guitar Neck Tension Calculators
A guitar neck tension calculator is a type of tool used to find the exact amount of tension that should be placed on your guitar strings. They can be found on the internet for free and using a calculator is easy and straightforward. Check this one out – https://tension.stringjoy.com
How To Use A Guitar Neck Tension Calculator:
First, go to the website where you found your calculator.
Enter the gauge of your strings and the scale length of your guitar into the calculator.
Click calculate. You will now know how much tension should be placed on your guitar’s strings.
How Much Tension Should I Have On My Guitar Neck?
The amount of tension on a guitar neck depends on the strings and tuning. In general, the strings should be kept at a lower tension to avoid damaging it. A higher tension will not damage the strings, but reduce its playing lifespan. The amount of tension on the guitar neck is dependent on a number of factors including string gauge, steel thickness, length and tuning.
High tuning and thick strings require a higher level of tension on the neck to stay in tune. When too much tension is applied, the neck can warp or damage your guitar body if it is made of a more fragile material like lacquered wood. It can also lead to player fatigue as well after extended period of time, so you should back off some tension from the pegs and neck when playing for extended periods.
How Do I Adjust The Tension On My Guitar Neck?
Adjust the truss rod nut using a hex wrench.
The truss rod is located at the end of the neck near where it connects to the body of the guitar. It’s an adjustment bolt, typically threaded to turn counter-clockwise to tighten and turn clockwise to loosen.
Turn it until you’ve reached your desired tension and remember that turning clockwise loosens tension, while turning counterclockwise tightens it.
How Do I Know If My Guitar Neck Needs Adjusting?
First, you should play the guitar and make sure that the strings are not buzzing. If they are, then there is a possibility that your neck needs adjusting. You can also take care of this by raising or lowering your saddle height to compensate for any buzzing.
As your guitar ages it can develop neck warps which will cause your strings to buzz, but usually don’t make a really bad sound. Sometimes when the neck is warped it leans towards the bridge and causes buzzing on the lower strings while the higher strings are ok. You can take care of this by raising or lowering your bridge height. If the warps are severe, then you may have to set up a truss rod adjustment.

Ideas For The Perfect Guitar Room Setup At Home
Are you looking for ideas on setting up a sweet guitar practice room? Look no further! You will find everything you need to know in this article, from what equipment you should have with an overview of how each can serve your needs. We’ll also talk about the advantages of practicing at home and why a guitar room for practicing at home is even essential for today’s guitarists.
The simplest routine that you can follow when setting up a practice room would include: setting up your amplifier, connecting your guitar, adjusting the volume of your amplifier, listening to it and making sure it is audible but not so loud that it will disturb anyone, and then finally selecting the type of music you want to play.
Start With Your Room
So you probably already have a specific room in your home that you plan to use as a guitar room, right? Well start there. The uses of this room will depend on its size, it’s furniture, and how you need it to function.
The size of the room is one thing that you’ll want to consider when planning for a guitar practice room. Do you need something that’s large enough for everyone to have the freedom to play while lounging around or do you need something more basic? A small bedroom can work just fine as long as there is good lighting and a comfortable place for your guitar.
Benefits Of Creating Your Own Home Guitar Practice Space
You can have a place to really focus on your guitar practice.
You’ll no longer have to make time for practicing by balancing it with all of the other things going on in your day, just when you want to get some practice in, you can hop into your space and start getting lost in the music that you love!
If you’ve always wanted a dedicated space just for playing guitar, but never knew what exactly you’d need or were too scared of the cost of setting up a dedicated soundproof space to do it properly if so then this is an easier and more economical way for anyone who has a room big enough where they don’t need much else than their guitars.
It also allows you to use the room for other things other than just practicing. You could make it into a media/video/computer room, or make an office/studio area out of it for yourself or others.
Its (hopefully) going to be a lot cleaner and more organized than the practice space where you’re currently at (or even that messy practice space room you have taken over in your house), and a lot better for taking care of your guitars than any store bought plastic guitar hutch etc.
You could spend hours and hours in there on your own, or invite friends over for a jam session, or practice with a band. It’s up to you!
Its only going to make your performances better by having the space and time in which to focus solely on them.
What You Should Include In Your Guitar Room
As far as equipment is concerned, you will want your room to be equipped with any equipment that you plan to use when practicing. This includes your amp or amps, some pedals, and of course the guitar itself. It’s best to include these things as they are essentials.
If you want your room to be more than a place for just practicing, there are obviously other equipment you should add into the mix like your drums or keyboard.
But what about other stuff?
Metronome
If you are going to be practicing guitar, you need a metronome. A metronome is a device that you can use to keep track of the time in your practice routine. This is an essential tool for those who practice guitar, as some techniques and chords are very rhythm based, and so you need to develop a sense of timing. If you don’t have one, it’s time to get one!
This one on Amazon is excellent and the one I would recommend.
Guitar Tuner
Keeping you guitar in tune at all times is going to be crucial for any guitarist who is serious about their playing, so make sure you have a guitar tuner on hand to keep your guitar in tune. There are actually several types of tuners you can choose from depending on how sophisticated you feel you need one to be.
Looking for a tuner? We did a bunch of buyer’s guides on them that you can check out:
guitar tuners
tuner pedals
clip on tuners
guitar tuner apps
Guitar Stand
A guitar stand is going to be essential for any guitar you have that you plan to keep in the room as well. It is a way of making sure your guitar is secure at all times and that it doesn’t fall off the place it is standing on and breaks. You can also install guitar wall hangers and hang your guitars on the wall.
Check out our buyer’s guide on guitar stands.
Amp Stand
Personally, I like to use an amp stand because I like to have the amps slanted upward towards me. This puts the amp in a nice position for me to play and helps to create a great sound. If you have one that you like, great! If not, check this one out on Amazon.
Pedal Board
If you own any effects pedals, then it is important that they are kept within easy reach of where ever you are working whether it is your guitar stand or on your desk. Some pedals and equipment require some sort of power source so make sure if possible that these can be plugged in at the same time.
Check out our buyers guide on small pedalboards.
Chair
A comfortable chair for playing guitar is an absolute essential. You are going to be spending a lot of time in this room practicing, and so you want to make sure that you are comfortable while doing it. Some people like rocking chairs, some like bean bags, and other just prefer a simple desk chair. It’s up to you, but you can also check out our detailed buyer’s guide on guitar chairs.
Music Stand
If your going to be writing music or tab then having a music stand or some sort of holder for the music is very important when it comes down to it. I like this one on Amazon.
Humidifier
Keeping your room humidity levels is important because it helps keep your guitar from cracking and warping. It also helps with the condition of your wood or the frets so that they don’t crack or split apart. If you live in a dry place, such as some places in the USA, then you are going to need a humidifier for sure. If you are unsure of what you need, I’d recommend looking at our guitar room humidifier guide.
Computer / DAW
This is more of an optional thing, but if you want to record guitar, a DAW can be a great thing to have especially if you are just learning guitar. I use the free version of Audacity and it works great. It has all the features that I need to record, edit, and even mix music. I actually prefer it over some of the larger more expensive products out there.
What About Soundproofing?
Should you soundproof your guitar room? Yes and no. It is up to you but I’d suggest it if you are concerned about the noise your gear makes. If you have a loud guitar amp or just want to make sure that no one can hear your music while you practice then I suggest checking out this guide on how to soundproof your room.
How Much Would You Expect To Spend On A Guitar Practice Room
So, how much of a budget do you need for setting up your guitar room? It really depends on what you already have available. If you already have all the gear, except for your guitar and amp, then it may not be too expensive. If you don’t have any gear at all then that is a whole other story. It really depends on how much you are looking to spend. You can go the very cheap route and build it yourself for way less than $100 or you can go the expensive route and buy everything brand new from the start.
Final Words
So there it is all planned out for your new guitar room. Hopefully this will be enough to get you started on the right track. I know that at one point guitar rooms were so expensive that some people just built them themselves. Now though, if you have the equipment, tools and space, then it is easy to build one for way less than $100.

Metal guitarists! If you’re looking for a new pedal that’s just right, then look no further. The flanger is just the thing to spice up your sound. The best flanger pedal for metal is what you are looking for and these are what we would recommend.
Quick Links To Our Best Flanger Pedals For Metal Recommendations
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress XO – OUR TOP CHOICE!
MXR EVH117 Flanger
TC Electronic Vortex Flanger
MXR M177R Flanger
Boss BF-3 Flanger
Our Metal Guitar Flanger Pedals Reviews
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress XO
The Deluxe Electric Mistress XO is the “tweaked” edition of our popular analog flanger pedal. This new version features a vintage lens for a more organic sound, and also includes an external modulation input, offering endless flanging possibilities. Now you can produce a unique flanging tone using two external modulation sources at the same time.
A switch on the outside jacks allows you to choose between three modes: “Feedback” (the original circuit), “Saturated” (an even more saturated, shimmering tonal experience) or “Stereo” (a phase-shifting effect that makes guitars in mono seem like they’re coming from two different locations). The “Feedback” mode gives you a flanging sound that is similar to what was used on “Stairway to Heaven.” This is one of the modes that people often associate with a flanger. The “Saturated” mode reproduces the sound of a tape echo.
The “Stereo” mode replicates an interesting type of flanging effect used in stereo recording. [sigh] Old-school tape flangers are challenging to recreate, and the Deluxe Electric Mistress XO does it exceedingly well.
youtube

MXR EVH117 Flanger
The MXR EVH117 Flanger is an analog flanger that has been crafted to replicate the sound of two delay lines that are offset by one-half of a cycle. The effect, in this case, is a downward shift in pitch that also adds a slight swelling at the beginning of each brightened tone. This pedal is not modeled after any one specific flanger, but instead is designed to produce a wide range of organic-sounding flange effects.
That said, this pedal has three knobs that allow you to select the amount of this effect, control its output volume and store settings in memory via a switch on the back. The “intensity” knob adjusts the amount of control that the flanger has over the instrument’s signal. This is the knob that allows you to adjust how tight and choppy the tone is, as well as add subtle chorusing effects.
The “volume” knob controls the output volume of the pedal. Finally, there is a switch on this pedal that allows you to store one effect setting in memory for later use. This is useful for creating preset tones for a song, then later recalling those settings to use during your show.
youtube

TC Electronic Vortex Flanger
The Vortex Flanger from TC Electronic is in its own class of flangers because of the way it adds or subtracts frequencies during the flanging process. The pedal includes two independent channels, with a footswitch that allows you to independently control each channel.
The settings on these channels can be saved for reuse, and a bypass switch is used to switch between them. To set your desired flanging effect, simply set the controls on one of the two channels as needed, then hit the footswitch and set the other channel to “tune” mode.
This will shift the output to match the new frequency with the frequency that you just set. From there, use the control on the “chorus” channel to adjust how much it’s adding or subtracting to each flange. The pedal also includes a jack for an expression pedal that allows you to further customize your flanging effects. In this case, it’s used to control the amount of pitch shifting from one channel and then back down into a reverse flange.

MXR M177R Flanger
The MXR M177R Flanger is a simple, reliable and inexpensive choice for guitar players and home recording enthusiasts looking to add a little vintage-sounding flange to their sound.
The MXR M177R is an analog flanger based on the circuit used in the classic Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger. The M177R circuit is tuned to a vintage, bright tone that’s reminiscent of flangers from the 1970s and ’80s. It has two footswitchable channels ( engage and feedback ) that can be controlled in tandem, which adds an element of stereo depth to the sound.
The “flange” control adjusts the amount of modulation applied by one channel when engaged. This control can be set to “on” or “off,” which gives you the flexibility to completely dial in a variety of warm, rich flanging sounds. An optional tone control adds some high-frequency clarity to your sound.

It is great for driving both single and dual channel amps effectively because it offers high gain overdrive that is loud enough to drive your entire stack without being too loud for live playing.

The Wampler Euphoria Pedal is a tube-amp inspired overdrive that delivers the creamy warm distortion and break-up typically found in an overdriven tube amp. The pedal achieves its signature tone by using a toggle switch to select one of two different input stages, which are designed to replicate the sound of two different types of tubes: the preamp tube or the power section tube. The pedal’s clean blend knob allows users to achieve even more versatility in terms of their tone by combining the characteristics of both sets of tubes.
The Wampler Euphoria pedal is a great choice for those who want to have that classic Fender sound without having to pay for the expensive equipment required to replicate it. The pedal can be used to boost and brighten other guitar sounds, but it also offers users the option of running both pedals in parallel or in series for more options.
Pros:
Users can select from two different input stages for a wide range of tones.
The pedal’s clean blend knob provides users with even more tonal options.
It can be used to brighten or boost guitar sounds.
The pedal’s tone control is designed to deliver a more dynamic response than most other overdrive pedals.
It is also designed for smooth operation.

Our Top Overdrive Pedals For Metal Reviews
Ibanez Tubescreamer TS9
The Ibanez TS-9 “Tube Screamer” pedal is a classic overdrive pedal that was originally released in the mid to late 80s. It was prominently used by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr and many other grunge bands of the era. The TS9’s tone has a thick sound and heavy-metal scooped mid range that makes your guitar cut through and makes your riffs sound tight.
It has two knobs; one adjusts output volume, one adjusts tone. The tone knob has a great range of possibilities, one end of the spectrum is a nice compressed sound that pushes your amp harder, while the other end gives you plenty of headroom for pedals like delay and reverb. It also has a bright switch which adds treble, it can be nice to add in a TS9 towards the end of your effects chain if your other effects are getting muddy.
While the TS9 is great for classic rock, punk, and grunge it can also be used for heavier styles.
Pros:
It is incredibly versatile; it can be used for classic rock, grunge, punk and heavier styles of music.
It has a wide range of tone possibilities
The TS9 is a reliable pedal with years of use
Cons:
It is not a very subtle overdrive and can cause some distortion if driven hard.
The TS9 doesn’t have an option to adjust the amount of signal it takes in.
Sometimes when you have the bright switch on, it can cut out your signal or muddy up your tone a bit.

Electro-Harmonix Soul Food
The Soul Food pedal is an overdrive pedal that has a warm and full tone. It doesn’t really sound like what most people think of when they think of a “distortion” pedal, but it’s an excellent option for guitarists that want to go in a heavier direction.
It has quite an unusual sound, it definitely doesn’t sound like a traditional overdrive pedal. The Soul Food has that satan-esque type of mid range and amounts of gain which gives you a thick metal sound that is reminiscent of the 90’s when grunge and metal were exploding onto the scene. If you’re into metal at all, the Soul Food will make your guitar cut through with a nice and thick distortion tone.
The Soul Food is great for metal music and heavier styles like punk, but it can also be used for classic rock or country.
Pros:
It has a metal sound that is reminiscent of the 90’s when grunge and metal were popular.
It has a nice mid range that isn’t too soft or too harsh.
It can tone down plenty of high frequencies with the treble knob.
Cons:
It doesn’t have a wide range of tone possibilities
The Soul Food can get too mid-rangey and muddy up your sound.

Maxon OD808
The Maxon OD808 is a Japanese overdrive pedal that was first released in the late 80s and has become popular with heavy rocker’s due to its dynamic sound. The OD808 has a bit of an unusual tone, it’s a bit mid-rangey and has a fair amount of gain. But, it definitely has a crunch that is reminiscent of 80’s metal.
The tone knob on the OD808 isn’t very powerful, it’s more subtle which makes this pedal great for being placed in your effects chain. It does have a switch that changes between the USA setting and the Japan setting, so you can choose between two different tones from one pedal. The Jap setting really has that mid-rangey metal sound, while the USA setting is a bit less saturated in the mids and is slightly more treble heavy.
The OD808 is great for death, thrash or heavy rock like the heavier bands of the 80’s but can also be used for other styles of music.
Pros:
It has a nice amount of gain and a somewhat mid to high rangey tone that gives your tone a nice growl.
The OD808 is well made with quality components
It’s a reliable pedal that is built like a tank
Cons:
It doesn’t have a wide range of tone possibilities.
