In terms of getting cursed, Eddie here kinda won the 'least fucked up cursed form' lottery. When they woke up that day they didn't look outside directly, there was a mirror facing their window and upon looking in it- suddenly every plushie on his bed was fused to his left side, through his clothes and into his flesh. Luckily it didn't hurt all that much, kinda just felt like a pinch and suddenly he was a half plushie man. Edward would wander out of his apartment to see if anyone else was suddenly transformed into something, and end up at Sam's apartment eventually.
