“Oh hundreds, probably thousands,” Kai shook his head, “I don’t know really, or maybe I just haven’t met very many, or maybe they hide better.” 

“So…do you feel any different?” 

“A little, yeah,” Jinora remarked, making a face for a short moment. “Not sure if it’s a good or a bad feeling different, though. I still feel a little weird.”

“Just wait till night,” Kai smirked then a Cheshire grin on his face, “night time will be fun.”

“How are you talking to me if you’re dead?” he smirked wiping a bit of blood from the corner of his lips. “You’re welcome by the way.”

“Hey! Bolin!” Kai ran up to his adoptive big brother and launched himself at the older youth in a bear hug. “Me?! Where have YOU been? No ones heard from you in awhile!”

Uneasily Kai sat down on the stone chair that was offered and tentitively reached for the bread, wondering if she even knew what he was talking about. “B-but I’m being followed...” he cautioned. 

“S-starved actually,” Kai responded breathless, though he found he couldn’t sit down and in all honesty accept her hospitality….not to mention he wondered what an old lady was doing in the middle of a swamp anyways. “I can’t stay here, you’d only be in danger if I did."

Korra followed him, bending herself back to Left’s back as Naga climbed on by walking up the sky bison’s tail. She had to keep her mind on the task before her: she would get supplies with Kai from the nearby village.

She would survive.

Then maybe they would track down Asami and Varrick and figure out a cure… They’d save the world, right?

“Our plan is to airbend everyone away… or those who are infected, I guess. I’ll stick close to you in case we need an earth wall or something. Just… don’t touch anyone, okay?”

Kai nodded numbly a little hesitant to fight off the infected survivors with Korra’s ever watchful eye on him. He had attacked a few rather vicious ones in Republic city and gotten quite a rough scolding from her about it. In Kai’s mind he was in survival mode, having lived on the streets and seen the dirtier side of life to him, those that remained were nothing but walking death. 

“And...if they attack us?” he prodded gently his eyes kept forward in an attempt to avoid her gaze.

    ♛ “Yeah! I know it is! All my ideas are good,” he laughed. They kept walking, heading over to the Spirit Wilds. “Now let’s try this darn thing,” he smirked, shooting it at a few of the vines. A few cracking sounds emerged, and the vines seemed to be frozen in place. “Come on - go in before they move again - ” ♛  

Kai was quickly behind the mad inventor, “So um..this thing only shoots in one direction right?” he looked around them nervously, “What if those vines come back at us from different angles?”

Jinora tucked some loose hairs behind her ear. “Just don’t tell anyone else, please. This is a personal experience, I’ve kept it to myself I haven’t even told my dad.” She took in a breath before starting from the beginning. “A few years ago, I had a very special connections with the spirits. I would play with them and just spend time talking to them, though my father thought I had imaginary friends.” She chuckled a bit. “My aunt Kya knew about it, and wanted me to help guide Korra to the Spirit World when my father couldn’t.” Her hands went behind her so she could lean back on her arms. “I guided her through, but it was so dark. The Spirit World was tampered with by negative energy.” Jinora inhaled before continuing. “I later found out it was her uncle who was putting the spirit world in such a catastrophic state. Unalaq had threatened Korra, and he used me a leverage. My spirit was stuck in the Spirit World, I didn’t know this at the time, but Kya was making sure my chi was still moving throughout my body as it escaped with all the time going by, she even had to take me to Katara to keep me alive.” Her arms started to get tired, so she sat up straight. “Korra was furious, but did what Unalaq said, releasing Vaatu. They merged, but once they were one, they stole Raava from Korra.” Jinora moved a chunk of hair from her face. “Unavaatu had grew to the point of being a giant and beat Raava, severing any connections Korra had to the past Avatars. She then followed him, her spirit increasing in size. They fought for a good while, but the last I remember is flying in front of them and a white light, before I woke up in front of my grandmother.” Though it was two years earlier, Jinora still remembered it like it was yesterday.

Kai was speechless at her tale, wise enough to know by now that Jinora did not jest when it came to the spirit world. He knew without a doubt that everything she had just said was true, however that didnt make it any more understandable. Things with spirits and the avatar always amazed him.

“I..er...wow, thats...” he replied lamely, “did it hurt? You know going back to your body and stuff?”

Kai sucked in a shaky breath and finally settled down enough to speak in labored breath, exhausted from his weep and tired from its tormented sleep. “I dreamed I was falling in the sk-sky and my airbending stopped working..and I was going to die.”  

"You're okay, it was just a bad dream."

Kai found he still couldn’t reply panting as the remnants of the nightmare continued to scroll through his mind like a living dream. Aware partially that he was awake now in Zaofu, Wei by his side. He was shirtless, sweaty, and panic stricken, “Ah…I…s-sorry,” a shaky hand came up to wipe a bead of sweat from his brow.
