Idk if you’re still active on here, but I’m a pretty new a-ha and Morten fan and there’s so much to admire about him! Yes, his beauty (that he has maintained for decades) is what got me into the band in the first place, and I did end up finding that they have a great catalog of songs, but there’s even more to that. First of all, I do think it’s incredible that Morten has an angelic voice that held the record for the longest note. I also think it’s admirable how he’s always been such a class act, especially when interviewers have said some demeaning things, he is still so graceful. And in the 80s, there was a lot of rampant homophobia and toxic masculinity (still is), but he was never about that life. He always seemed forward thinking. Nobody’s perfect, but Morten is an angel. Sorry for my long rant.
Thank you so much for sharing your feelings here!

Have you seen the Kamilla Og Tyven movie?
Yes it did! It was pretty decent, but I wish they had subtitles!

things that made me stop wanting to die that require no effort whatsoever
change the color used to highlight text on your laptop
move the pictures on your wall
stack whatever clutter is in your room into piles even if you don’t have time to clean it all
slightly vary your commute, even just by one street
change where you sit and scroll aimlessly on your phone even if it’s only to the chair in your room instead of your bed
drink water or juice out of a wine glass in the morning because nothing is real
shower with the lights off, without music
buy $3 flowers at trader joe’s—they look bad next to the more expensive ones but they look so good in your room
start typing things you don’t post into your notes. your thoughts can be worth documenting even if you don’t deem them worth sharing
wake up super early just once. you don’t have to make it a habit it’s just extra satisfying to go to bed that night
listen to the entirety of your favorite album from 2015

Question: If Morten Harket is in a Studio Ghibli movie, Which character would he be?
For me, he is a combination of two characters (one of which is also a woman)
1. Howl from Howl's Moving Castle (mainly because of his profound love for gardens and pacifism)
2. Ursula from Kiki's Delivery Service
There was one particular scene in the movie involving Kiki and a young artist named Ursula. They had a warm conversation - about their challenges. Kiki lost her powers after she felt stressed, dissatisfied and burntout. Ursula spoke about her concerns..which was a form of an artist's block. Ursula mentioned that she was able to get back to her passion in art, once she took a break...a mindful break.
Ultimately, Kiki's change of perspective brought back her powers. Hopefully, we all would find a meaning of what we are pursuing in our lives right now, so that we wouldn't get lost. Even if we do -- it's completely normal to take a break and slowly get back on track.
“Stop trying. Take long walks. Look at scenery. Doze off at noon. Don’t even think about flying. And then, pretty soon, you’ll be flying again.”
This quotation from Ursula reminded me of this interview.
youtube
Morten mentioned that his perfect day would a day where he would wake up with no plans and nothing to do.
Earlier, he also mentioned experiencing a burnout after the Rock In Rio concert in 1991. He wanted to shut himself out from everything for a short while, just to heal something inside him, and get a clear mind. He had a nature walk in the Amazon.
A state of being in a clear mind, is something he values the most.
For some reason, Ursula's outlook on life, her artistic abilities and her quotes reminds me of him?
What are your thoughts?

hello i am listening to "I've Been Losing You" by a-ha angrily. i am not mad at a-ha. i am mad at everyone else.
I WAS SUPPOSED TO THINK A-HA WAS SOME MYSTERIOUS, ANONYMOUS ONE HIT WONDER THIS WHOLE TIME? THESE GUYS? MORTEN HARKET? MAGNE FURUHOLMEN? PÅL WAAKTAAR? I WAS SUPPOSED TO LET LYRICS LIKE THESE* FADE AWAY INTO THE UNKNOWN?
*It wasn't rain that washed away, rinsed out the colours of your eyes
Putting the gun down on the bedside table, I must've realised
It wasn't the rain that made no difference
And I could've sworn it wasn't me
Yet I did it all so coldly, almost slowly, plain for all to see

Oh yeah! He even stated that he tried singing like him once and he said (and I quote) " My voice got really fucked up"
Poor boi.

It's a great thing to know that one of Morten Harket's inspirations to be singer is the British group QUEEN.
How awesome is that ..!

Does Morten ever sing in Norwegian in the 80s?
Yes, he did!
In the early 80s, they did a demo of a song in Norwegian. This was recorded in Naersnes.
Here's the song! It's pretty cool :)

This is why I love Tumblr.

@thehurtingreflex It looks like a caption worthy picture.
Why do you think Morten is the only one with a huge, beautiful grin on his face?
