MOXENA: you have my trust, if i have yours. but you will need to kill traitors when we get there. don't forgive them.
MIRUNA: i know.
MOXENA: don't let your guard down just because you're lonely.

VALAR: I don't regret it.
VAN RICHTEN: I do.
VALAR: I know.
[a long moment of silence passes.]
VAN RICHTEN: ...I love you.
VALAR: ...I love you, too.

"she peels an orange, separates it in perfect halves, and gives one of them to me. if i could wear it like a friendship bracelet, i would. instead i swallow it section by section and tell myself it means even more this way. to chew and to swallow in silence with her. to taste the same thing in the same moment." — nina lacour, we are okay

This tiny Tawny Frogmouth chick arrived at the Wildlife Hospital at only a few days old and needed some expert care to prepare for adulthood without his parents.
dear friends let me tell you a small tale — that of a lonely, strange young woman's cry for a guide and friend; something that was not quite the moon answering; and, what she saw as a fair price for her soul.
or, a small glimpse of how halfryn became a great old one warlock.
it only took both of them dying, one of them being brought back as a revenant, and the other to be a voice in their head via a ring of mind shielding for van richten & valar to say i love you to each other.
...and as the only person left in the fight, valar in turn strikes van richten down. and then again when he's done.
a series of thoughts about session sixty-seven of @nevermoretoleave, where the party had to make a deeply, deeply difficult choice about their fated ally, and valar has to strike down the man he loves, not even a day after his own return from the dead. on the bright side, the party has a regeneration spell prepped for van richten, and valar has his ring.
A huge, gushing "thank you!" to @niroben101, who finished this commission in a day and a half, so I could share it with the party when he 'returned'.
"it is undoubtedly the angriest you have ever seen him. valar has always prided himself on being somebody that does not show the kind of vicious anger that plagued him for a decade after narius. he's very careful about it. but with the sun going out, and doru, and ama, and ismark, and every single other thing that has been done today and in the past… the pure anger with the way that things are is enough to push his soul back. …in a way that you all have seen, sort of. though it's very different to see a revenant coming back in izek's arms."

My Curse of Strahd PC, Valar as he stands currently at level 9! He had some uh...... Character Development. :)
(Until 4 in game days ago he was a firbolg Oath of the Ancients paladin, with aspirations of going Redemption. But, he was sacrificed by a cult, instead & has recently returned to un-life as a revenant Oath of Vengeance paladin with the motivation of 'I am going to personally murder the fuck out of Strahd to avenge all the terrible suffering my friends and myself and this place has gone through'.)
Librarians die. But there is a much greater risk. To be surrounded by all of this magic, to know that you could change things, that you could fix things, and not succumb to that temptation, well, not very many good people can bear that burden alone.
