pete and roger’s books are so fun to read simultaneously because pete’s book will say “my first impression of roger daltrey was of him beating up a chinese boy” and then you go to roger’s book and he’s like “there wasn’t even a chinese boy in the entire school” or pete will be like “i loved john entwistle he was such a perfect and loving friend to me he was the only one who was there for me in school when everyone else wanted nothing to do with me and i can’t think back on anything in which i can fan embers of resentment i loved that man” and then roger’s like “john was kind of evil”

or when they talk about each other it’s so weird pete will say “vulnerable now, roger moved in ways which seemed to mean something deeper. his mythical poses suggested frustration and pain, his sweat an angelic sheen that evoked an Old Master painting” and roger will say “i think he has the most fantastic head if i was a head sculptor that’s the kind of head i’d want to sculpt all day” for no reason. there’s no reason they needed to describe each other like that.

Before I watched the Get Back documentary I kinda thought people bigging up John and Paul was just your standard "the lead singers get the most attention" bias. I gotta say, I still love Ringo and George, but after watching that documentary I'm just in awe of that chemistry John and Paul have. When they're writing music together it's like they're speaking their own language, it's just insane how clearly you can tell that they've been writing songs together since they were kids. Just brilliant and instinctive and effortless. It's magic.
