simply the fact that different body types for women go in and out of style throughout the decades should be enough to tell you that women’s bodies are considered consumable goods under capitalism

Hey, Tumblr. You like non-stereotypical depictions of autism? What about ✨ neurodivergent protagonists ✨ ? Yes? What about asexual neurodivergent protagonists that go on chapters-long rants about their special interests? You want gay characters that are important to the plot too? Then I've got the book for you! The author is gay!!! American Psycho, by Bret Easton Ellis, is

if you make that female character less goth as a sign of her ~healing~ or ~improving her life~ I will kill you
make her MORE gloriously dark and over-the-top. she's growing into herself. she's getting comfortable being who she wants to be. do you see the vision. I am crying and throwing things

This is like that clickhole article about the bully who makes sure to use the right pronouns for the trans and nonbinary people he beats up.
Got reminded again of my old coworker who was a massive misogynist but also trans inclusive. Told me he believed trans women are indeed women because "only women would be stupid enough to want to be women"
I wonder what he's doing now

A lot of people criticize the 1992s "Bram Stoker's Dracula" because of the romance between Mina and Dracula, that doesn't exist in the novel. But that detail is precisely why I love this movie. Because Gary Oldman's Dracula truly loved Mina, but that didn't redeem him. His love didn't make him a better person. He is still a monster, a villain, a murderer and an abuser. He has done horrendous things to innocent people for so many centuries... but that doesn't mean he is uncapable of loving someone. His ability to love doesn't redeem his character nor makes his villainy lesser. He is a dangerous villain to everyone else except Mina, and she knows it, this is why she didn't chose to be by his side. It also gives a better explaination of his motivation rather than the pure xenophobia of the original novel (not that Francis Ford Coppola's version is any less racist, the way they treated the Romani people is awful, but at least this Dracula has a motivation that makes sense).
Besides, this movie has so many qualities and is such a pearl that I think it's unfair to dismiss all its qualities because Dracula and Mina had a thing for each other. The movie doesn't condone Dracula's villainy.

Given your disdain for the officially published novelization, I'm curious: If you got the chance to write a Crimson Peak novelization of your own, what choices would you make to expand on the story and characters?
I actually have plans to do this!
I'd like to rework my fic In A Glass, Darkly into a novelization instead of an AU (and maybe have it done up in a fancy binding someday, with illustrations by one of my artist friends- money permitting). Partially for fun; partially in case the movie is ever lost to the digital black hole
one thing I enjoyed doing in the fic was writing from Edith's perspective- I feel like giving more insight into her mind helps keep her from becoming the Sweet Innocent Ingenue it's all too easy to flatten her into. however, I also included some parts from Lucille's perspective for things Edith didn't see, and I imagine I'd keep that aspect. I don't know if I'd do perspective for both Sharpes or just Lucille- the actual novelization only does thomas' PoV, which makes sense since the author seems to loathe Lucille and make her a one-dimensional villain
that's the biggest change I'd make: actually acknowledging that Lucille is a complex character with motivations and not just ~Born Bad and Craaaaaazy~. the actual novelization literally changes scenes where she has a clear logic to her actions to make it all seem random and out of nowhere. the director and actress worked too hard to present a complex image of a mentally ill, traumatized woman who does terrible things that nonetheless come from a twisted internal logic, to have it all smoothed away in the interest of having an easy-to-hate villain
also I would get the characters' eye colors right. just saying

Weird Star Wars tumblr fandom memories: When people on here seriously argued that Mara Jade was created by George Lucas as this cunning scheme to homophobically destroy any interpretation of Luke Skywalker possibly being gay.
None of that is true, of course, but the sad thing is that it's entirely pointless? Like you can just ignore those books (or more recently the new films under Disney's ownership) and make up your own idea of how things happened because it's all fiction anyway.

when talking about AI remember the different versions:
Analytical AI, is the one that can detect cancer and save lives
Generative AI is the one that steals art to make it worse, and gives you a wrong answer every time you google something
Weird Al is the one who got his ponysona to canonically have children with a pony from my little pony

Excluding the crucial fact that office jobs pay you an income….if staying home to raise children and do chores and bake bread was really so much easier and more joyful than working in an office on some objective level, why aren’t men doing it? Why aren’t they chomping at the bit to be ~leisurely house husbands~ to a working wife? Why aren’t they stepping up to depend solely on someone else’s income in exchange for round-the-clock domestic labor, if it’s really as blissful and their propaganda suggests? Curious.

Just a heads up, there are bots going around on AO3 accusing people of using AI. Considering the timing, this is likely AI bros' retaliation for AO3 users calling them out for scraping their work. Examples of what you might be sent:
