Thought: I do NOT think that 50% of the world’s billionaires should be women. I think there shouldn’t be any billionaires at all.
So you are saying 0% of the world should be billionaires?

In my linguistics class we had a Chinese girl who had adopted a European name. We all didn't speak Cantonese and understood her wish to not have her name butchered all the time, except for one of us, a guy who thought he knew to differentiate between tones perfectly because he was learning Vietnamese. He saw himself as super woke and he thought it was wrong for her to adopt a European name when we should just try harder to pronounce her Chinese name (which honestly is just really difficult if you don't speak the language at all, even for linguists). So he would constantly call her by her Chinese name which she initially didn't even want to share, but he kept asking her for it, and from the look on her face I could tell that he did not get it right, and that she didn't like it at all. The first time he did it she even told him it wasn't correct, but he kept going, so sure he knew how to pronounce it. So like I 100% agree that we should put in effort to pronounce names from foreign languages and not give up on the first try if we get it wrong, but we should also respect people's wishes when they know we can't do it/they know it takes too much effort for them to teach us how to pronounce it. In that case, we should just use the name we're being told to use. It's that simple.

Once in a while when I wake up, I find myself crying. The dream I must have had I can never recall. But the sensation that I’ve lost something lingers for a long time after I wake up. I’m always searching for something, for someone.

For those wondering, yes, Cruella's mom was killed onscreen by dalmatians, and yes, it is The Best Scene in the Movie.
(This is the only screen recording I was able to capture without cackling like an insane person over the audio.)

Nature in Florida is so weird??
I was out hiking where the trail ran alongside this river that was moving pretty fast, but a couple miles in it just disappeared.
The river was gone. It just stopped, like someone had snipped it in half and taken away the rest.
So I stopped and stared at it a while, trying to figure out what the heck was going on, because the water was flowing very rapidly, but the river had abruptly ended.
Finally, this old man in a pair of worn overalls stopped next to me to watch as well, before leaning over and asking
“First time seein’ it?”
I responded “yes”, and he continued:
“It goes underground here, pops back up some three miles west. Not the best swimmin’ spot, for obvious reasons, though that don’t stop people from tryin’.”
So I asked him what he meant and he said,
“Lots of dumb folk with no regard for God’s nature die out here every year. Scientists, usually.”
We talked a little more and eventually went our separate ways, but when I got home I decided to look in to what happens to the river when it plunges underground like that.
It turns out it submerges and travels through a complex cave system for a few miles, and millions of gallons of pressurized water travels through there each day.
It gets cooler though!
Apparently, when water levels were low enough during a drought, researchers were able to send divers and probes through the cave system and found both animal and human remains, some of which included mastodons, dire wolves, saber-toothed cats and more. The human remains date back to about 7500 BC.
Anyway, Florida is weird and we have deadly underground rivers filled with cool prehistoric animals I guess.

I was chilling with one of my cats earlier and I noticed that smth looked...off about his back paw. I managed to look at it without him running off, but couldn't really examine it well :/
(pic below, I'm on mobile so I'm sorry I cant put a read more cut)

I've been watching him when he walks around, and he's not limping or anything. But I don't know what happened or if its something that needs to be addressed??

Hi folks, just a life update -- my sweet dumb kitty River (who many of you have seen grow up on this blog) has had a really rough week. She hasn't been eating, drinking, or pooping and has been vomiting even on an empty tummy since last Sunday.
I've taken her to the vet every day since Monday for tests and treatment and after an exploratory bowel surgery and a full saline flush to clear out her lil insides, she is finally starting to recover (she pooped today, hallelujah!!!)
As joyful as I am that River is starting to feel better, this week has set me back $3000+ in vet expenses (so far). I was able to cover everything (with some kind discounts from the vet), but this did eat up a decent chunk of my savings.
I've been sharing this journey on Twitter and have been absolutely floored to receive some incredibly helpful support from friends and strangers via ko-fi. This has shown me that there are people who are invested in this kitty, people able and willing to help-- so I just wanted to drop that link here as well.
Ko-fi for kitty.
It's only if you're comfortable and financially secure enough to help out, there is absolutely no pressure. All this is doing is making a terrifying and financially draining week a little less awful, and any future treatments she might need a little more attainable.
