I was thinking about Prince this weekend and I thought of, then found, this post. 🎤
lads had a dream last night that i was at the elton john concert and halfway through crocodile rock he switched to a prince medley and real live flesh and blood prince walked out on stage, and into the stunned, hushed silence i said quietly, “i thought you were dead” and he looked straight at me through the crowds of a million people, put his mouth against the mic, and said “do i look like the kind of man who dies” absolute legend

I love this, specifically for the solemn mien of the hunter, who looks like he just came from the office.

The height of chic for the duck-shooter? For the hunter who wants to spend no time at all digging or constructing a camouflage hut or whare, this may have been a boon. The advertisement appears on the same page as the “Acme” folding duck decoy, “raised or distended by the simple twist of the wrist”.
A & W McCarthy (Firm) :127A. Grass suits. These suits save the trouble of digging a whare when duck shooting … [1902]

I love this song, but I am ready to hear it in versions other than the original - so this Belgian 80s’ synth pop performance was a considerable find.

Newspaper advertisements with the same wording as this poster appeared in the Bay of Plenty Times several times during August 1940, and the papers that year advertised excursions during the May holidays for mothers and children. This period was one of a sharp increase in the number of rail passengers, owing to petrol rationing, troop transport and new suburban electric rail services.
New Zealand Railways. Publicity Branch: Joy of school holidays, tripping by train. Book early at Railway offices, government tourist bureaux, and other travel agencies. Issued by New Zealand Railways Publicity Branch. By authority, E V Paul, Government Printer, Wellington [ca 1940]

The vibe is big, the booth is small down at Upper Riccarton library, where my children were intrigued by civics in action and we had some pleasant chats with folks from around the neighbourhood. Sey Ev'I Detov! (at Sockburn, New Zealand)
