observation: among a certain subset of tumblr users, the term “blorbo” has become unchic, but the concept it describes is still important; and so it has been replaced with “The Character”

Not to be crazy on main but The King in Yellow always fascinates me, not the book itself but the actual “play” that is referenced. The uncanny way we find snippets of it throughout the book, makes it feel real and yet just out of reach. It gives the feeling of being just on the other side of the curtain, of just being able to graze the other side of something that we can’t understand.
It’s like looking out your window late at night only to find that you are looking into another window. Into a window with another you laying in your bed. It’s you and your house and your bed but your hair is a different color, and you’ve never seen those sheets, and you’ve never heard of the book “you” are reading, and you don’t know who that person is laying beside “you”. It’s so familiar and so distant. So much that you already know and yet so many more questions. I want to learn more. I don’t just want to graze it with my fingertips, I want to embrace it. I want to watch The Kjng in Yellow. I want to know it by heart.
In my dreams I wait for the play to start.

the infuriating thing is that there is genuinely so much good queer literature out there, contemporary and not, but there is also a sizeable chunk of readers who think that a book only "counts" as good queer literature if it's a) unproblematic, b) contains romance as its central focus, and c) has the characters state their orientation and/or gender identity directly to the audience using socially acceptable 21st-century terms (as opposed to resorting to cowardly tactics such as Subtext and Themes)

why is the narrator of the king in yellow such a little freak. first he almost came because of a book, and then he felt "a pleasure that stretched every nerve almost to breaking" because of the sun. also it's not clear from the first ten pages if he's gay or murderous, which makes reading a bit confusing

Love it when tumblr users display the strangest anon hate they've gotten on their banner. It's like a deer's head mounted on the wall but the deer also calls you a slur

i just listened to all the music thats ever been. my favorite was a song a little girl sang to her cat in greece in 1286. my second favorite was from a ceremonial performance in modern day ethiopia, from 22000 bc. i also liked STEELY DAN.

idk if this is a trope or whatever but i love it so much when fictional characters massively downplay the severity of their injuries but in more of a comedic way than a tragic one. like some guy gets impaled and they just glance down at the shard of metal sticking out of them and say some dumb bullshit like "oh man. that's gonna need some ice." and then pass out while all their friends yell at them for being an unfunny idiot with terrible priorities.

oh also? An absolutely freaky thing I'm seeing yt leftists do?
STOP TRYING TO TRACK DOWN PROTESTORS THAT DO 'BADASS STUFF'. STOP POSTING ABOUT IT ONLINE.
PEOPLE FUCKING DIE.
AND IT'S USUALLY SOMEONE MELANATED.
THE GOVERNMENT IS WATCHING YOU FUCKING DUMBASS.
y'all are so stuck on egoistic heroism that every time someone does something 'sick' at a protest you wanna turn them in to the next celebrity to have a parasocial relationship with and then they go missing.
Tf is wrong w y'all.

My TMA headcanons:
Jurgen Leitner had the biggest, most pathetic old-man crush on Gertrude Robinson. He met up with her in the tunnels and then cried himself to sleep because they could never be together and Gertrude would never like him back or some shit. But not before gooning it to her picture.
Michael Shelley was hyper-mobile, like double-jointed. With all the troubles that came with.
Gertrude actually WOULD go for a loser like Leitner, but she never did because she didn’t think of him as anything but a source of information.
Gertrude Robinson was aromantic bisexual.
Gertrude had it going on with Agnes Montague. Not sure how that would work but it probably involved oven mittens
Agnes cannot be touched without burning, at all. Not sure if it’s already canon, but if not, here’s my take on it: the Desolation took even the barest intimate contact with another human being — or as close as it gets to one — from its strongest avatar. It’s a curse. My girl gets to SufferTM
Gertrude actually had a soft spot for Gerry. Of course, she didn’t let it interfere with her work, and of course, she skinned him and left him behind… buuuuuuut he was still the only person allowed to call her “Gertie” to her face and survive, and she did catch herself feeling an occasional fondness towards him.
Gertrude was being devoured alive by guilt for every person she had sacrificed for “the greater good”. She cried when she fed Michael to the Spiral.
Gertrude never, ever cried, even alone… except for a very few occasions.
Mary Keay wore her hair in two long, thick braids before she went bald. I hate the bitch but she knows how to carry a Look
Peter Lukas is Jonah’s sugar daddy.
Peter Lukas and Elias Bouchard have been married and divorced at least 14 times. I’m saying Elias because they have been married and divorced even more times with other identities of Jonah
Jonah Magnus was a plump, tall freckled ginger with innocent eyes, a disarming smile, and an awkward attitude. He made an active choice to only bodyhop into twinks because he was one at heart.
Mordechai Lukas was Jonah’s sugar daddy. Peter is just continuing the tradition (he didn’t know about that when he got into an affair with Jonah)
Elias wears eye earrings. Nothing we can do about that, he’s just that cunty
Jonah Magnus, Peter Lukas and Simon Fairchild are in an on-and-off polycule. Peter and Jonah fight over Simon. Nobody wins. Ever.
Michael Distortion can use fae rules if it likes to.
That’s it so far! You may have noticed I’m a bit obsessed with the “previous generation” as you may put it, and not the main cast lmao
