OCTOBER:THIRD WEEK

This week I added all my A level CCR final answers in the mediums. this time we had time constrains because of which I added all my answers on only 2 mediums.

I added my first, second and fourth answer with relevant evidences on spark 

and I added my third answer about audience and distribution on prezi

and also finally edited my final blogs.

this week was super hectic and tiring for all of us.

OCTOBER: FIRST WEEK

this week I added all my AS level CCR answers in the mediums. i wrote all my answers from a director’s perspective.

For writing my CCR answers I used several technologies like:

For writing my answer 1 I used an online software called Adobe sparks, I made a presentation on that.

For my second answer I used google slides again i made a presentation with voiceover on that and I also recorded my voice on android phone and to enhance it used a online software called TwistedAudio online sound editor.

For my third answer I used Prezi, its an online presentation software.

To present my fourth answer I used an app called Canva

SEPTEMBER: FOURTH WEEK

hey! this week there was not much work for us to do.

charvi added some more final touches to the website. the website glitched last this week because it was showing the cast section unedited but charvi had already edited that section. so this week she had to add all the details and pictures again. 

this week i made the final drafts of my A level CCRs and continued editing the blogs.

SEPTEMBER: THIRD WEEK

hello everyone!

So this week our editor added some final touches in the trailer and completed both the trailers. after she finished the edit we added the final trailers and poster to the website. so, this week we were done with the post production part.  

so this week I started editing my blogs. also i started writing my first draft of A levels CCR answers.  I wrote all my answers first on google docs

it took me a lot of time to write all the answers. my target was to complete all the answers by this week and start final editing by the next week. also we had to search new and creative mediums in which we wanted to upload our final CCRs.

SEPTEMBER: SECOND WEEK

Hey everyone!

This week also the editing part continued. The editor made another draft with the new sequence and she also added music on the trailers this week. While she was making her basic draft charvi and I thought about the poster we already had some references in mind but at the end we have to create our own original product.

so while editing for poster we realized that our poster doesn’t give the hint about our theme of our film. it didn't relate to the name “Chubhan”

So we decided to do a re shoot.

 I did some basic make up for the first shots. then i did a bruised face make up of kajal.

for editing we already had a reference in our mind that was:

from this we got the idea to add city’s overview in background.

we completed our poster editing this week itself. we added both our production logos in the poster and we also added the same font that we were using in trailers and website.  We wanted to show the contrast between her past and future life.  we’ve also revealed the  releasing time and the actors and the team in the poster

While editing the second trailer there was a silence right before the scene when she starts running. The editor asked me which shot to add there to cover the gap but that silence was very impactful so I asked her to keep that silence. The editor majorly used basic translations like dissolve and dip to black, in both the trailers. She also used an ink drop effect on the title. also We decided on adding aftereffects as a backdrop for the text.

SEPTEMBER: FIRST WEEK

So this week we started with our edit.

Before starting the edit the editor and I watched 3 videos about trailer editing from filmediting pro. 

We watched these videos then we got a basic idea as of how to go about it. In the video key thing he said was to follow the sequence of one video then dialogue video then a silent video. And following that the editor made a rough draft on the software, while she was doing that I searched for background scores. I wanted a typical rajasthani song to play in background along with the basic trailer music. I Heard a lot of marwari songs but none of them were going with the feeling, after hearing many of these songs I realized that the one thing common in most of them is the soung of sarangi.

 So in the end the cinematographer came across a sarangi version of a famous song, and we loved it so we locked that as the background score. Then we searched for a trailer music to create that feeling of building up tension. Our teacher suggest some of the sounds to us and we finalized the music from them. So we were done with the work of background scores. Till this time the editor had made the first draft but that sequence didn't look good. So we revised both the sequences. Brainstormed about the new ones and while doing that we thought we should add some impactful text in our trailers so for that we watched trailers of some movies like: article15,

After watching these trailers we researched some facts on domestic violence, child marriage, girl child illiteracy rate in India

AUGUST: FOURTH  WEEK

Hey!

So this week while watching the final shoot data we realized that we needed some better and more shots of city so for that we went back to the main city and took the shots of clock tower and the whole market.

Then we took some shots of the lakes. Jodhpur is also known as blue city because of its blue colored houses. So we wanted to show the blue city aspect of our city to establish the location.

 For that shot we walked so much deep into the city and streets were so steep and narrow that we got tired easily but we went in and shot some timelapse and took some more shots of the city.

The next day we had to go back again because all the shots we overexposed. When we went back, this time we also called our actress Chitrangana for a photo shoot for the poster and website. during the photoshoot we took pictures of her with different backgrounds. so for that we had to walk a lot to find a good location.  

For the photoshoot we already had some references in mind

This day we took a lot of pictures and took a lot of better shots of the overview of the city. Fun fact for getting the perfect shot of overview, charvi and I climbed over 600 steps and that was only half way because it was afternoon time. heat was killing us! So we went as far as we could and we took the shot and came back

AUGUST: THIRD WEEK

Hello everyone! this week we started with our advanced portfolio shoot.

Day 1 I had to first go to the school and collect some basic equipment like tripod, lights, reflectors and mic. I also had to collect some flowers on the way for one sences where our character plays with flowers. The houses were situated deep in the main city and roads were so narrow there but some how I reached to the first location from where we were supposed to take a still shot of the fort and the overview of the city. Charvi (cinematographer) setup a time-lapse so we had to sit there in scorching heat for about half hour.

 After some time we got free from here and then we went to our main location that was nearby only. Transportation was so easy this time as I had a scooter so we quickly reached the location. 10 minutes after our arrival the actors, Chitrangana and Mrs. Rathore also reached. First day we only called them and Manan(husband).our plan was to complete all the childhood shots in one day and free the actors.

So the first shot we took was of Chitrangana skipping rope and laughing. For this shot we asked her to wear the costume that we had gotten for her. 

After this shot we asked her to change and then we took the shot where her mother scolds her for studying all the time and no helping out. We took this shot in the kitchen with only natural light coming from one window. I gave the mother's characters a light pink colored costume because she wasn't a dark character and neither was she a happy or helping character.

 Then after this scene I again asked Chitrangana to change her costume. She had to change a lot of costumes in one day because it was a trailer and these shots were of different days and time. After changing we took the shot where she plays with flowers. 

During that shot every time she would throw flowers everywhere and after every retake we had to pick them up again and put them back in the basket. Phew that was tiring task.

Now again after this she had to change. This was a scene where Gunjan's mother asks her to wash the dishes and she refuses. So during this scene the battery of our mic ran out and we did not have a backup so we had to use our mobile phones for recording the voices.

After this we experimented with a mirror shot that turned out to be a really nice shot. But during that scene we had to take some retakes because the actress kept slipping off the stairs. Eventually we got the perfect shot. 

 After this we quickly took a shot of Gunjan's mother shouting her(Gunjan's) name.

then we took a short lunch break. Post lunch I geared up as I had to go Gunjan's bridal makeup it wasn't a heavy makeup because in the reference I saw they did minimal make up. But setting her costume and jewelry took a little extra time.

After this we took some of the bridal shots that we had to take of her with her mother, in that location. During the shoot of these scenes the lights went out but we had to take that shot anyhow because we had no time to waste so we all turned on the flash lights of our mobile phones and everyone not in the frame held 2 phones each. We had around 8 flashlights switched on. And shot was looking beautiful so we took it.

 We also did a photoshoot of her and Manan for the poster.

We were free from this location after this so we packed up everything and moved to the other location. Again shifting was so much easy because we were 8 people and we had 4 scooters so 2 of us sat on one and we moved. When we reached the other location we first took Chitrangana's more shots is the bridal dress.  The shot where she walks on the white cloth  we only had 2 takes of that shot because we only had a little amount  cloth and we couldn't stain the floor.

Then we asked her to change again the dress that she had to wear this time was a little too tight for her so we had to sit there and open the stitches of the dress because we only had limited costume so we couldn't afford to lose one. Then we took one of her shot where she is talking to Manan(husband) We took this shot from different angles. During this scene we got a lot of bloopers because the actor kept mispronouncing a word and we couldn't stop laughing at that.

After this we took another shot where she is playing with flowers and gets scared when her husband enters. During this scene also we had to pick up the flowers after every retake. Then we took another shot where she brings tea for her husband while he is studying and she keeps looking at the books because she misses studying.

Next shot we took was where she gets water for Manan but throws the water on her instead. During this scene also Manan couldn't throw the water properly. we only had two takes for this shot also as she would get wet every time. That was all for this day. Day 2 This day we had our shoot with another actress, Kajal. we took all the shots of adult gunjan on this day. We started our shoot by making the red light using red gelatin paper and Tube light. 

Then took a shot of Kajal standing in front mirror and putting sindoor, Indian women put sindoor as a sign of marriage and also for the long life of their husband. During this shot adjusting the light was a very tricky part because we had to directly put the wire in the socket and there was no plug so the wire kept loosening up.

 So I had to hold the extension cable and light at all time.  After this shot we took another shot where she opens up the payal (anklet) here we have compared the payal with shackles. 

After this shot was the scene where manan pulls her in the room and throws her on the bed. We shot this scene in red light mixed with a little bit of white light. During this scene we also took a shot of Manan pulling out his belt and wrapping it around his hand.

  For this scene I did Kajal's makeup to show a slap mark on her face. I also did Manan's makeup to make him look older than before. Then we shot the scene where her reflection is visible in the knife. Right after this was the scene where Kajal, while cleaning the table does a  complex calculation in front of Manan.

Then while Kajal was changing we took a individual shot of Manan while praying. After this Manan was free.  Then I did Kajals full bruised face makeup and then we took a shot where she looks a way while talking to her sister in law. For sister in law we first selected an other actress but she refused last moment so we had to as one of our team members (Pooja) to just sit their as the sister in law.

After this scene came our longest and most important scene where she dances like a maniac and removes her sindur and all the ornaments that symbolize marriage.

During that scene she had to leave bloody footprints so after every take we had to wipe it off. 

Post this scene we shot our last scene with Kajal.

 The shot was where a bucket full of water was thrown at her. So I had to throw that water on her from outside the frame so I had to use all my strength to lift the bucket up to her height and throw with all force but right after this she looked in the camera and laughed. This was supposed to be our one take shot but we had to take a retake of the shot this time our  teacher also stood their with her phone and she recorded this scene in slow motion.

After this scene we shot the scene where blood moves towards the drain. During that shot also we had to wipe the whole area again and again for every retake. That was all for this day!

JULY: FOURTH WEEK

Hi  guys! 

So this week we focused on making the pre production of our advanced portfolio. It was a very tricky task because making a screenplay for a trailer is very different from making one for an opening sequence. While making a screenplay of a trailer I have to be very careful about what information I wanted to add and to what extent do I want the audience to figure out the story. It all depends on how I select the shots that will guide audience. For reference of shots I watched a video of a famous Indian daily soap, "balika vadhu" which means "child bride" this show also targeted the issues that we are trying to represent.

I also watched the trailer of "dhanak", “lajja” And "bulbul" for the reference of shots.

 I  loved 2 scenes that I really wanted to incorporate in my trailers, one was from "balika vadhu" where the water is  splashed on the actress and second from bulbul the shot when she leaves her footprints(it's a ritual) on the white cloth. I added similar scenes in my trailers. Later I also watched the trailer of "mom" in that trailer their was one shot where the actresses reflection is visible in a knife, I really liked that scene also and I decided to add something like that in our trailer too to create suspicion among the audience.

JULY: THIRD WEEK

Hello everyone! 

So this week we finalized our cast. For young Gunjan we casted one of our junior Chitrangana Rathore

For adult gunjan we casted Kajal Vyas

For the role of husband we selected a boy from our junior grade, Manan

For the role of mother we asked one of our teachers, Mrs prakash rathore who happens to be chitrangana's mother in real life too.

After casting our next step was to go and see the locations. Now this was a little scary because we had to go deep in the main city and the main city was a red alert area(most covid cases there) during the  lockdown. But we took all safety and precautionary methods and went there. We had 3 options in mind for our location.

We went to all three, all of them were old heritage hawelis and we really wanted that look. But one of them had modern interiors so that was a turn off and also that family was feeling a little sick so we did not want to take any risk. So we finalized 2 houses in the city. We also went to the local market and brought a traditional kurta and dupatta (veil) for our actress. We selected a printed kurta with a red tie and dye dupatta (veil) That's all for this week.
