It had to be the happiest that Remus had ever been, and he tried his hardest not to laugh in excitement as it would surely wake up the little girl sleeping in his arms. It meant the world to him ─ it was almost like being a father, except without the constant responsibility. He didn’t have to feel bad for being unable to take care of her during the full moon, because she was James and Lily’s in the first place. He blinked away the tears that he felt in his eyes and looked back down at Danielle.

“God, she’s so adorable,” he whispered, a little chuckle escaping his lips. Then, slowly in order not to move in a way that might wake her, Remus lifted a hand and brought it to the baby’s face, gently running his thumb over her nose.

    Lily yawned when James stroked her hair lightly, pressing a light kiss to her forehead. Definitely exhausted, and after being in several hours of labor, she could give up a new minutes of baby time to the new godfather. By the wisps on her head, Lily could already tell that she had given her red hair to her daughter. Maybe this one might actually hold some resemblance to her. She carried Harry around for 9 full months only to have him look like James. Not that it was a bad thing, she claimed her son’s eyes all the time. But Lily had always wanted a daughter, and now she had one.    “I can tell she will be very loved and spoiled.” A light giggle came from her lips as she watched the two, her eyes growing heavy. “I just hope Harry will take to her.”

Lily wasn’t familiar with boring celebrations…

This happened in the end of their 6th year, after Gryffindor won the Quidditch cup. If Lily went out with James in their seventh year, I believe her feelings started before that.

Background: Lily broke up with her boyfriend months before; she starts to become close friends with James; James has doubts she would ever feel the same for him but at this point their friendship is also very important for him to try to make any stupid moves. His doubt lead James to that moment on the celebrations. Moving on. And giving by the surprised faces, James snogging someone wasn’t an usual view.

And so Lily’s feelings during that moment.
