I'm just a 23-year-old mother, neuroscientist, geek, and military housewife that needs a place to write her thoughts down. :P

The Touch of the Master’s Hand by Myra B. Welch 'Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer Thought it scarcely worth his while To waste much time on the old violin, But held it up with a smile. “What am I bidden, good folks,” he cried, “Who’ll start the bidding for me?” “A dollar, a dollar,” then, two! Only two? “Two dollars, and who’ll make it three?” “Three dollars, once; three dollars twice; Going for three…” But no, From the room, far back, a grey haired man Came forward ad picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust from the old violin, And tightening the loose strings, He played a melody pure and sweet As a caroling angel sings. The music ceased, and the auctioneer, With a voice that was quiet and low, Said, “What am I bid for the old violin?” And held it up with the bow. “A thousand dollars, and who’ll make it two? Two thousand! And who’ll make it three? Three thousand, once; three thousand twice; And going and gone,” said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, “We do not quite understand What changed its worth?” Swift came the reply: “The touch of a master’s hand.” And many a man with life out of tune, And battered and scarred with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd Much like the old violin. A “mess of potage,” a glass of wine; A game—and he travels on. He is “going” once, and “going” twice, He’s “going” and almost “gone.” But the Master comes and the foolish crowd Never can quite understand The worth of a soul and the change that’s wrought By the touch of a Master’s hand.

Lots of Yarn and Yarns!
So...recently I've been overcome with this desire to crochet/get better at knitting. I crocheted the wrist warmers, and they're really cute! The only problem is that I completed the project with an I sized hook instead of the pattern's called-for H sized hook. So, they're a tad big on me, but in a cute sort of way : ].
Yesterday I bought a beautiful skein of yarn to begin knitting my scarf. Its been slow going, and my hands really hurt. I think I must tense them or something while trying to knit, because they feel so tight. Unfortunately, I've never knitted with circular needles before, so I'm naive in the ways of joining together rows. That being said, I may have to restart from the beginning. -sigh- oh well...
I've also been reading a lot lately. I've put the Game of Thrones series on hold for now. Many people have been recommending books to me, and many of them are religious. I always honor reading recommendations, because I like it when people honor my recommendations. So, recently I've been reading a chapter a day of a book my dad recommended to me, Rediscovering Catholicism. Its very good, and it really gets me to think about my life and faith.
Okay, my son finally finished his preschooling for the day, so I'm going to cut this note short.

My First Post: About Me
Okay, so here is my first post of my new blog! I figure I'll explain a little about myself and why I'm doing this.
I'm 21 years old. I've accomplished a lot while being so young. I'm quite proud of that fact. : ] Sometimes I find it hard to communicate and form friendships with people my age because I feel a lot older than I am...
I'm a neuroscientist. I went to college when I was 16 years old, with the intention of going to medical school. By the time I turned 18, I transferred to Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA and pursued my real passion in life: neuroscience. In my junior year, I applied and received a summer internship at Boston University working with rats with an ADHD phenotype and cocaine addiction. After graduating in December 2012 with my bachelor's degree in neuroscience, I took on a job with Western New England University neuroscience department as a lab technician. Although it was a lot of work, I made some great friends there and I miss it.
I'm a geek. My hobbies include a range of geeky things. My husband and I love to play Magic the Gathering together. I've been playing since I was about 12. We dabble in Dungeons and Dragons. We're both gamers. He prefers consoles and computer games. I am perfectly content with my 3DS--though I will play computer games and consoles as well. I'm a fan of fantasy books and classic literature. I've always been obsessed with anime and manga, and occasionally I try my hand at drawing it. I've never been to any conventions, but its one of my dreams to go one of these days.
I'm a mother. When I was 18 I gave birth to my first son, Dante. He's been through so much with me as I worked to finish my degree. He's the sweetest 3 year old in the world, and I love him very much. Currently, I'm pregnant with my second child (gender unknown), and we're all very excited to add to the family : ]. I'm praying for a girl!!
I'm a military housewife. I met my husband online on a Christian dating site. He had enlisted in the Army just after he and I started talking. He proposed to me just before he left for basic training in November 2012. We had a lovely wedding on June 22, 2013. Since then, I left my job and have been living in upstate New York at Fort Drum. We have housing on-post, and its been quite an experience learning the ins and outs of the military lifestyle.
So, basically I woke up this morning and was like, "Hey, I really miss writing. I should start writing again." I'm hoping that this tumblr page can act as a digital diary of sorts. We'll see how it goes!!
