“MY MAGIC PROPHECY” CHARACTERS AND THEIR TAROT CARDS

The official introductory cards of MMP characters have imagery in the background, which coincides with a tarot card in the Major Arcana. Let’s explore their meanings and the hints they might give to each character’s involvement in the story.

The Moon makes sense for In. He is, after all, our fortune teller, who is tapped into his unconscious and reveals the future through his dreams.

Thap is The Sun, both when it comes to his own journey and his connection with In. He is an undeniably joyful and positive part of the fortune teller’s life and helps him conquer his fears. Thap is also overcoming his own obstacles by evading death and uncovering the hospital drama.

What is surely MMP viewers’ new favourite card - The Star - makes sense for Dao, because her connection to In and her faith in him is essentially what leads to the current, comparatively hopeful situation that her brother is in.

But, you might have also noticed that there could be a connection between In, Thap, and Dao’s cards. Indeed, The Star, The Moon, and The Sun go one after the other in Major Arcana. Even the order makes sense, as In (The Moon) is a central figure in the story, while Dao (The Star) also leads him to Thap (The Sun). Moreover, the trio is – in a way – a path across the Major Arcana, which leads away from the preceding cards (The Devil and The Tower) to the following cards (Judgment and The World), a path from Hell to Heaven in some interpretations. The situation the characters findthemselves in is indeed rather hellish, while In and Thap’s meeting (thanks to Dao) removes them from that hellish situation. Moreover, there is a character, who is actually represented by The Tower in this lineup. But more on that later.

The conclusion of Tul’s arc lines up with The Fool rather nicely. He is finally letting his hopes of getting together with In go and walking a completely new path. We could also interpret his initial inability to understand why him hanging onto his feelings was wrong (as was pointed out by the more mature Thap) as Tul being a little naive and innocent about the situation.

Pokpong’s The Hermit might hint at the fact that he will have a bigger role to play in the unravelling of the hospital drama. The Hermit demands reflection and it demands the truth. Perhaps, Pokpong is the one who will discover the full truth of the current situation in the future, or will at least help with the investigation in a more meaningful way.

The Magician makes sense for Ton, as he does hold all the formal cards in the current situation. He is the only one who has the full power to investigate and to arrest, ultimately being a crucial player in the hospital drama, whose actions will allow Thap to return home without fear for his safety.

TUN-TUN-TUUUUUN! (that’s supposed to be dramatic music)

The ever-suspicious Karn is growing even more suspicious with The Tower in his background. As much as tarot readers love to put a positive spin on The Tower to not scare their clients too much, it is ultimately a pretty scary card. Not to mention, it does not make much sense for Karn as we know him now. He does not seem particularly prideful and doesn’t even have a direct link to the disastrous hospital drama. Or so the series wants us to believe... Besides, remember what I said about In, Thap, and Dao’s cards? The Star quite literally leads away from The Tower, through The Moon and towards The Sun. Could this mean that Dao leading Thap to In and away from The Tower was actually her leading him away from Karn? We shall see.
