"It's obviously not a black and white answer. Something that to me is pointless may have a point to you. It's all subjective." Hayes shrugged, although he usually classified pointless and something that didn't serve his life in any way... like most people. "You not a fan of rowdy kids, enough sugar in the air to get you high and rides that are incredibly questionably assembled?"
IT WAS AN ANSWER lorenzo could respect -- clearly based in logic. as a hacker, he frankly expected as much. he had quickly picked up on their differences upon their arrival at the booth, the trained eyes of a conman trying to make sense of the person who he'd be spending his shift with. he knew very little about the syndicate. he too had his own reasons wanting to steer clear of the kissing booth -- even if none of them were outward and visable. " how do you assess if things have a point to them? no judgment, just genuinely curious. " he questions. lorenzo had believed that taste was subjective -- that he was not the tastemaker of the universe. " eh, i suppose i've always just associated it with carnivals. never really sought it out anywhere else. " he shakes his head, realizing just how little he had experienced growing up. " never really went to many either. "

There were much worse things Hayes could be doing than working at the candy floss stall, the kissing booth for example would have been his idea of hell on earth. He also could have been paired with one of the snakes which would have been absolutely horrendous and might just have been his thirteenth reason. βItβs okay I guess, Iβm not a massive fan of things that have basically no point to them.β It was a whole lot of sugar with not much else but Hayes had always been overly cynical. βAre you a cotton candy fan?β
@hayesarcher
LOCATION: cotton candy, second shift. FOR: hayes archer.

FRANKLY, LORENZO WAS GREATFUL for the distraction of his forced posting. he would have rather not had to work at all, sure. however, having the option to focus on something else that wasn't the sight of derin and her husband was a welcome treat. as for partners? he could have gotten so much worse. imagine if it was him and reyan. the thought alone made him shiver. he had shot the guy, after all. as miray's eyes looked on. however, he's aware enough of the man standing next to him to know that he's syndicate strong. the conversation has been few and far between -- their booth being far busier than he had anticipated. while his first cones had looked slightly lopsided, he was slowly beginning to get the hang of it. after handing a perfectly prepared paper cone to a child who appeared to be no more than six, he faces the other man before speaking. " you a cotton candy fan? " he questions, hand coming to rest on one of the nearby pillars. " i don't think i've had a bite of one of those things in at least twenty five years. "

As much as Hayes wanted to believe the best in every situation, heβd learn his lesson that life could almost never be all sunshine and rainbows. There was always some disaster waiting just around the corner. βHopefully but I donβt have much hope for that. After New Years was so peaceful thereβs bound to be something horrendous in the works.β
As a perpetual pessimist, Henry believed that things were always likely to go wrong. He didn't ever go out unprepared. Instead, he was always prepared for the worst possible scenario. "Pretty high," he told Hayes, turning to look at the male. "I'd be more surprised if absolutely nothing goes wrong," he stated, shrugging. "Whatever it is, hopefully it's not too terrible."

βHelpful as always Freddie.β Hayes laughed. Somebody probably should have ensured those working the booths understood what they were doing β an instruction manual could have been left at the very least. With a shrug at the least helpful instructions ever Hayes tossed the first heart, narrowly missing. The first shot had at least helped him know what to do next. The following two hearts made their target with ease.
Freddie shrugs at Hayes question, eyebrows raised as he watches him as he plays with the heart. β Iβve never actually played ring toss, but I think so. I mean, yeah, you just gotta throw the thing onto the other thing. β

"Okay so I'm guessing it's just like ring toss but with hearts, right? So we have to get the hearts on the coloured bottles to win a prize?" Hayes asked Freddie as he picked up a set of the hearts. As he waited for the answer he played with one of the hearts in his hands, trying to estimate the weight of it and the force that he would need to throw it with to get the prize. "Don't mind me, just doing my nerdy shit."

"What do you think are the chances of something terrible happening tonight?" Hayes questioned, walking over to stand next to Henry. At large gatherings such as this there was always a chance for something to go wrong, for bodies to pile up and blood to be spilt. Anybody who wasn't prepared for that at all times was an idiot."

"You know you're incredibly hot and if you don't I clearly need to tell you more often." Or he could show her; worship every inch of her body until she knew it without a doubt. Now there was an idea. Hayes crossed the room in seconds and he pulled her closer, one hand around her neck and the other on her waist. "What am I going to do? I'm doing to worship every single inch of your skin and then I'm going to fuck you until you can't walk. Obviously." He said against her lips before finally capturing her lips with his.
A smirk spread across her face, "Incredibly hot you say?" She hums as she takes a step back from him. "I think there is," she said as she pulled her shirt over her head to reveal her bare breasts. She let her hand trail down her skin, her nipples pebbling in the cool air, "How is this?" She said as her hands made it down to her bottoms and she pushed them off, revealing a lacey pair of panties. Her fingers trailed back up her skin as she let him take the sight of her in. "What are you gonna do about this Hayes?"

All of the stuff that had recently come out about Brooklyn wasn't ideal of course but it was hardly the worst thing Hayes had heard of someone doing. "Well that's... good then I guess. At least things are looking up."
Brooklyn gave him a slow nod, "I was hoping you'd say that." She said giving him a small smile. After everything came out, she wasn't sure who was still in her corner, people found out some less than favorable things about her, about what she did for money. "Just saying that, but I'm getting there so it's okay. Lots of change."

"It's all in the fingers and the wrist." Hayes explained, his hand still tapping away at the yellow button with lightening speed as his other hand focused on the joy stick. It was only a matter of seconds before the game was over and he turned to the face the person who had just joined him. "I don't see any blonde girls, are you sure you didn't just make up an excuse to come and talk to me?" He asked with a smirk. "And no, I don't usually curse at kids and he isn't little he's about 15 and he's a little shit who deserves it."
"Jesus, you talk that way to all the ladies?" Amara scoffed, a smirk placed on her lips. "I was just going to ask how the hell you're doing all of that high score shit, because I can't for the life of me figure it out - and also, see that blonde girl over there?" Amara pointed out to one of her tipsy med school friends and sighed. "She thinks you're cute and wanted me to get your number for myself, she's tipsy as hell right now though and has gone on a match making spree - wouldn't shut up until I told her I would just come up and talk to you. I'm not even sure she's registering people right now or machines." She chuckled. "You curse at little kids often though?"

"I'm second on the score board." Hayes said, eyes still glued to the screen in front of him, fingers furiously tapping buttons. "The annoying kid in question beat my high score yesterday, probably because some of us have jobs and he clearly has nothing better to do with his life." Not that Hayes was bitter about a teenager beating him on a video game, no not at all. Hayes looked over at Nali briefly with a smile before his eyes went to the game. "I'm going to say this once and then if you want I'll never mention it again. I'm really sorry about Lucky. He was one of the few serpents I could actually stand for more than ten seconds."

ππππ ππππ ππππ'π ππππ πππππ ππ πππ ππππ, and it wouldn't be the last. Denali knew just how irritated he could become if he was being unnecessarily rushed, which was understandable, Nali would've snapped back too if someone was constantly looming over her. βMy boss said you've gotta stop hogging the machine.β They joke, eyes flickering to the screen, βStill haven't made the score board? Damn, quit dicking around and lock in, dude.β Maybe its a bit too casual, especially after avoiding the gang for days after news of Lucky's passing. She hoped he wouldn't be giving her that pitying sympathetic look others had.

The pressure he had on his shoulders as the lead hacker was something that was never going to just go away. As much as he could relax and leave work in the back of his mind it would always still be there. It owed it to the rest of the Syndicate for that to be his main priority, he also owed it to himself... to Allie. Plus he needed to figure out who was behind the anonymous texts before the time came that his own was revealed. There was a ticking time bomb over his head at all times and he had no idea how long it had left.
Wanting to listen to her, to be fully present in the moment he forced himself to push it all out of his head and focus solely on Iris. "I'm glad I could help make your new years better. You were the only good part of mine as well." Being around the serpents was never something he wanted to do but she made it slightly more bearable. "I can't tell you what I've been up to, you said no work talk and that's all I've been doing for the last couple of weeks. It was exhausting me though I've come to realise I need a break every now and then for my sanity."
IRIS IS FAR FROM blind to the stress that everyone around her is feeling -- it's wrapped itself around her bones. buried itself within the fibers of her skin. " hey, i'm just saying. i know we've all been worried.. it wouldn't hurt to let some of that pressure go. especially for you, mr. lead hacker. " it's clear in her face that she had never meant anything by it -- not at all. she does genuinely worry about her people, and hayes certainly falls under that category. from meeting him nearly four years ago, to him taking her under her wing, to sleeping together and lastly, the present, he was one of the few people she trusted without a doubt. if he told her to jump in the air, she'd probably ask how high. " life is... god, i hate how much work is tangled up in our lives right now. got some insane closure that i'm not quite sure if i entirely believe... lets say i'm about ninety percent there. leaving five percent for my own self protection. " she laughs, shaking her head as she takes a sip from her glass. " christmas was quiet, just me and the dog. you were the only redeeming part of new years, considering most of it was just rubbing elbows with the enemy. " after another moment, she sharply exhales. when would everything stop feeling like a mess? was this part of what she had signed up for? probably. " and you? it feels like you kind of dropped off the face of the earth.. so i'm curious. "

"I've told you so many times now if you fuck off and wait for a second you can have the machine. God people really need to learn some fucking patience." Hayes muttered at who he assumed who was the person who'd been harassing him for the past half hour. When he glanced to the side he saw that was not in the fact who had appeared next to him. "Oh shit sorry. I thought you were some annoying kid that wont leave me alone."

"Avoiding you? That doesn't sound like something I'd do." If he was truly doing that he wouldn't be in the club. Hayes also wasn't the type to leave people questioning where they stood with him. If he hated somebody, like the Serpents, they'd know about it. "You actually couldn't be better or you're just saying that?"
Brooklyn took him in, "Ah yeah." She nodded, "Almost felt like you were avoiding me." Or forgotten about her when he got a better option. Hayes always treated her right though. "I'm great. No complaints." She said with a smile as she tilted her head to look at him. "Could not be better."

"You already know I'm not going to say no to that." Hayes grinned as he rose from where he'd been sitting on the floor and made his way behind her, pulling her closer by the hips. His lips made their way to her neck, her ear any piece of skin he could possibly leave kisses on. "My current issue is that there's this incredibly hot woman in the room and she has far too much clothing on. Think you can do something about that?"
"How about." She paused as she tossed her hair over her shoulder, "I give you both?" She said as she pulled her lower lip between her teeth. Things were a bit spicier between them now but that didn't change all that they were, friends. They simply could never be more. "Of course, I would." She said as she stood from the couch. "What do you need help with Hayes? I'm sure I could give a hand."
