It was empty for the most part — children and their mothers have long gone for an afternoon nap and runners found it too hot this time of day. She had planted a seed in this soil that was rich with magic, and had come over almost every day to watch it grow — bloom among the others, reach it's full potential so that she could harvest it later. It's petals could heal once nurtured with the kind of magic she posessed.
The spirits hummed gently around her, ethereal almost.
Knees firmy planted on the ground, she cradled the withered flower in delicate hands and spoke very softly. Slowly color flooded back into the fragile thing. "That's all better now, isn't it?" small digits caressed the petels that were still in the process of coming back to life.

Her sundress matched the blooming flowers outside her window and the smile on her face was only proof of how much she adored the space Haylee had created for both herself, and now Topher. It was always meant to be shared — bask in someone's laughter, share the troubles of a long work day, prepare a meal and then rock, paper, scissor the other over washing the dishes.
Living alone has always felt incredibly lonely.
"I got home from the hospital really late — " she explained; blue on brown, "I've had uh, two — three hours maybe." she wasn't trying to be dramatic, the blonde was pleased with the amount. Usually, there were nights where she barely slept.
"Would you like some breakfast? I can make us waffles."
Tumblr media
Topher was so glad to share an apartment again with someone other than an almost-married couple. Not that they didn't adore them, but it was a whole different experience to hang out with a friend in the morning.
They stretched out as a cat as they got out of the bathroom, wearing a baggy shirt and joggers. Their hair was wild, bound on the top of their head with two knots.
They accepted the bean water with a grin. "Thank you, and yes!" they said, stressing the last word.
The human took a seat, they weren't good with most living things, had never owned a houseplant, and neither a pet, though they'd taken in plenty of animals to nurse back to health with the help of their mother. "What about you?"

Drinking definitelly wasn't Haylee's forte. She was a lot more comfortable staying sober with a good book, or socialising and getting to know the people around the small town, or just like she was now — sitting by the shore watching the waves crash at her feet.
She could hear the glass shatter on some of the rocks and the panic that followed. "Hey — It's alright, is there anyone hurt?" she assumed someone must've stepped on the sharp pieces already, considering the amount of drunk people stumbling left and right, laughter spilling from their lips.
"Let me help you with that." she offered kindly. The blonde was quick to join the other at their side, and bend down to pick up the glass carefully in her hand. Not very smart for a doctor, yet she was fairly optimistic that if she was careful enough, she'd leave without a cut.
"Was that yours?" she asked. "I hope it wasn't something important."

The beach was not Bea's cup of tea. She hated the sand and the stones and the salty sea breeze. The outdoors were not something that she particularly enjoyed ( yes, in spite of her major ). Unfortunately, the beach was a prime ecosystem for a variety of species - namely those that grew along the dunes. And as an added bonus, of course she arrived at the beach on the same day as the mini-duck fair. Bea tried her best to avoid all those drinking and enjoying themselves at the bar crawl - but their drunken endeavors still got in the way of her scientific research. "Sorry. 'scuse me. Pardon. I said --" The music overshadowed her words. Before Beatrice could react, she drops a vial onto the rocky shoreline. The glass shatters. "Okay...just a moment," She holds out a hand to try and gain someone's attention. "There's broken glass. The only thing worse than drunken people is drunken people with a medical emergency --" Desperately she looks for someone whose voice might be louder - and more helpful - than her own.

Her hands were full — two cups of coffee held together by magic, the only force that could glue three plates of fries, a burger, and all that coffee together. Of course, to a human, it would simply look like the blonde had several years of restourant service experience, when in fact — she was embarassingly clumsy (even so a few people have questioned her medical skills based on that observation)
"Huh?" light eyes locked on the other through lashes, chin holding down whatever it could.
The brunette was beautiful — sauce or no sauce. "Uh, no — I don't see anything, but let me just — " Haylee dropped everything on the nearest table, shushing the spirits away, and returned with a smile — big and reassuring, "Okay, now that I can — focus, you look great. No sauce."
She realised she was now standing there completely mute.
"You can sit down if you'd like. My friend is uh — a bit late."

Annabelle knew the full moon was lurking around every corner - their time to be free and enjoy her night as just herself. So she distracts herself with the food crawl. "I don't know the last time I ate this many wings," They stayed away from the fries ( sorry, crisps ) covered in gravy, but the burger sliders kept them coming back for seconds and thirds. "Hey --" She turns to the closest person to her. Whether they were just passing by or taking part, Annabelle didn't know. "Can you be honest with me? Do I have barbeque sauce on my face?" She asks. "There's like...no mirrors here. How am I supposed to tell?"

As usual, Haylee was running on two hours of sleep, and a very large amount of coffee. Her smile still big and warm on her face, as she approached the other — eyes taking in the canvases around her. "Isn't it a bit early?" a genuine question followed by a soft chuckle.
The sun was warm on her bare sholders, the ends of her floral dress dancing along the wind. "I, uh — " she didn't truly know if there was any creativity left within her very tired concious, "I'm not sure I have any ideas, but maybe you can tell me something — " a beat, "like your most favourite thing in the whole world, and I'll paint that."
The smile on her lips only widened, "It'd be a present. For you."

CLOSED STARTER for @hayleeduboisx location ; LAKE SIDE / BEACH FRONT
Sporting a classic dhoti and a vibrant light blue v-neck shirt, Ezhil wasn't hard to spot in the crowds. His vibrant blue hair caught enough attention, and if not that, then his twirling moustache. He valued the artists of this day and age who understood that in order to be important: you had to be memorable. You almost had to be a piece of art yourself.
He was standing in front of an almost blank canvas, it merely had a blue line. There was another canvas leaning against the stone railing, drying in the sun. This one was such a mess of colours that it was hard to say what exactly it was supposed to represent.
He wasn't painting, instead his attention was on the street, and when he saw a familiar face walk past, he was quickly to tap her on her shoulder and gesture for her to join him at the canvas. "Hello future painter, probably a good time to start now?"

She listened — following for any other signs, she needed to be aware of, and examining the other as quickly as she could, so she could rule out anything too risky.
There was a small light flashed to his eyes, quick and swift gestures with delicate fingers that went to his head next, and his shoulders, and then Haylee was ordering the nurse to start iv fluids.
"I will need you to take deep breaths, okay?" tone soft and warm, "I'm Haylee, I'll be your doctor of service. I know, this is a lot all at once, but I'll need you to take a few deep breaths, and trust me, okay?" she tried to reassure him, that everything would be okay, that he was in good hands.
"I'm going to need you to answer a few questions for me, is that okay?"

he fixes the person attending to him with an unfocused gaze, vision going in and out due to his state of inebriation. it wasn't often that he let himself get to this point, but he must have lost track tonight. now that he thinks about it a couple bottles of wine might have been involved, all drank by himself. but, he's not going to admit that there might be reason to be concerned about him. where,  — Haylee and Topher's apartment closed  — @topherromijn
It was slightly strange  — to live with another person, again. To share her space with someone else. The last time she shared breakfast with anyone in the comfort of her home, was a few years back, when she was part of a coven, and her fellow sisters, as she called them, spent the night.
She handed the other a hot cup of coffee, a warm smile on her lips, "Did you sleep well?"
Her other hand was busy with a glass of water, she used to water the plants on the living room window. Warm reys of light caressing green leaves. She loved taking caring of living things, whether those were people, plants or animals, or even their home.

The other seemed to know quite a lot of drinks and all Haylee did was look slightly confused at the mention of two more — Mojito, sounded familiar enough to believe the brunette. She turned around to meet the man behind the bar, she couldn't waste a moment, or someone else was going to snatch his attention away and then it was another half an hour waiting for a drink — No, she was shy, but not that shy.
Their eyes met and the words flew out of her mouth, "I'd like a Mojito, please." the man eyed the last drink he made her, still sitting there, pretty full —
She didn't follow, instead her attention now was solely on Sofia, "Well, that couldn't be right. I believe there's actually good people out there — " a beat, "Oh, so you did find a good one?" Boyfriend — unless, that boyfriend didn't fall into the good category. Perhaps, she shouldn't have said anything further.
"Well, they're not really uh, my friends — " her mojito came just in time for her to take a large sip of it, as she looked around and tried to spot her co-workers. "I'm pretty new here." her voice loud, "They're just my co-workers, I pretty much live in the hospital, so I haven't had much time to go meet people — "
Perhaps, she should've gone to the bar, the first chance she got.
"Celebrating our first day off, I guess." she laughed, "Please, do come — You've been so nice to me."
Tumblr media
Sofia tried to determine what drink the girl had, from the looks of it either a Mai Tai or a Sex on the Beach but from the girls face she went with the later, rum based cocktails always tended to taste better for newer and younger drinkers while vodka could taste like gasoline, especially if it was cheap. "Usually sugar and pure ethanol," she joked in response.
"I'd offer you mine but tequila tends to be a little acquired, especially with agave, if you want something more tropical you could try a Rum Punch, or if you want something more refreshing a mojito is always good," she suggested, the names easy and not likely to cause any kind of confused looks or judgemental expressions from the bartenders.
Her chuckle about the guy made Sofia do the same, offering an obvious nod, shown off by the ever changing lights of the club. "Most guys are, even the ones that seem good," she agreed.
The girl stated she had friends and Sofia nodded, not wanting to potentially burst her bubble that getting upstairs might not be easy if her friends were not as cute as the blonde before her was. Instead when she was asked if she was there with someone she just shook her head. "No, my boyfriends busy tonight so I figured I'd get out and see where the night took me, but don't abandon your friends on my account. You celebrating something special?" Sofia asked, ready to encourage whatever bachelorette party, or maybe break up, they'd be celebrating.

She was fascinated — when someone was so passionate about what they are doing, Haylee could't help but listen and nod with the biggest smile.
It certainly wasn't arrogance, his eyes gave away the kindness that actually radiated from him — he was purely confident in his abilities, and Haylee wished she could be at least half as confident. "I bet you do." her smile never faltering.
"Oh, um — Whenever is okay for you! I'm working tonight, but maybe in the morning you can stop by and check out the place? Maybe bring a few of your boxes, I'll help carry the other half, if you don't have anyone else."
Was she rembling again?
Haylee only flashed them another smile.
"Oh I do need those — " a beat, "Friends, I mean — I'm, uh fairly new here." and I work non stop, and am terrible at keeping up with people — she could add, but stopped herself.
Tumblr media
Topher smiled, the small chuckle made them feel cool. And Topher did enjoy feeling cool. When they were cool, it meant that he was more confident, and also more smiley.
“Thanks,” he said, grinning. “Honestly, once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy, it’s like using someone else’s weight to keep them up, the hardest part is getting them to not get anxious, but that’s all about keeping your voice level and assuring them you know what you’re doing. And I’m great at that,” he admitted. He never said too much, he said the very obvious things.
He chuckled. “Oh no, but you don’t understand: I always win,” he expressed. Which wasn’t true, but when he put himself in a competition: he’d make sure he’d win.
At the mention of a guy who said dude a lot and a fifty year old stripper, Topher imagined living together with either, and how British Sitcom worthy that would be, but they beamed a little when they were picked. “Awesome.” A word Topher rarely - or ever - used.
“I do want it! When can I move in?” he asked. “And I think we’ll be great friends!” Though their heart flipped when Haylee said ‘I like you’. They were known for crushing on almost every girl and enby who came into their life.

Witches were not immortal — they bled, the same way humans did. Haylee wasn't a fool enough to believe there was very little out there in the world that could touch them. She had witnessed witches losing their lives out of recklesness. Her own mother lost hers too young. A witch of such power was surely, not easy to kill. But she did fall — like many others; an endless list, she didn't wish to see Mei's name on. She only nodded with a smile; hoping her worry wasn't that evident.
"That's not the case anymore, Mei." she replied, the usual warmth her face carried coming back, "It's not just you anymore — we're friends, aren't we?" and Haylee, took her friendships very seriously. She was the type of friend to hold your hand, whether you felt in need of that or not.
"I'm not going to let anything happen to you."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mei was almost taken aback. she had never been questioned—her confidence had always been enough, a swelling power that made her feel almost as though she was invincible. she had never had any reason not to believe such a thing. she had been blessed with spells, incantations, an ability to bend the very fabric of nature, and yet her friend was somehow . . . worried? mei's eyebrows lifted and she considered her response. eventually, she lowered the glass she had been cleaning and leaned against the bar. "i won't get in trouble," vowed the witch, "for you." sometimes she wished that she could be as kind as people like haylee. mei wasn’t a bitch—she didn’t go out of her way to upset people or harm those that she cared about, but when the day ended she knew there was only one person that would stand at her side and always fight her corner. herself. how much could haylee give away before she had nothing left to give? "i don't suppose i've ever thought about it," she spoke truthfully, "i grew up in china. this seemed like the best option, somewhere safe where i wouldn't be hunted for who i am. it's always just been me. wherever i can stay safe is where i want to be."

It wasn't uncommon — several patients already had tried to charm her, whether it was because they assumed she'd be able to up their dose, or simply because they were lonely — she never knew, and she didn't really dwell much on it. Haylee was known for her patience and kindness — that's all she could give in return.
"And yet, he's not around here — you are." a soft smile played on her lips, as she traced her eyes over the wound.
She could sense that he was a witch, and if the spirits were correct, then he should've been healing a tad bit faster. Haylee moved an inch closer, so that nobody could overhear, "If you were fine, that wound would've healed exactly thirty minutes ago." she spoke quietly, eyes meeting his. "Would you come with me, now?"
Tumblr media
Reza clicked his tongue and clenched his jaw, wincing when pain that suddenly shot through. Just his luck having met with one of the attendees instead of like-minded people. It wasn’t as if he was planning to be anywhere near the sick, they were at a secluded corner, far from the hospital main entrance. If only he hadn’t lost his lighter and this wouldn’t have happened.
Tumblr media
He let the woman approach him, his trademark smirk on his lips despite the bruises. “You should see the other guy I was with.” He put his ciggie back into the pack. There was no point in wasting it when he could light it later. “And I swear I’m prettier than this.”
“You don’t have to worry your pretty head about me. I’ll be fine after a good night’s sleep, hm.” He didn’t want to bother with getting treated when he knew his body would heal almost as fast as any ole werewolves thanks to his fucked up magic.

Haylee had spent far too long staring at that one paiting with muiltple colorful dots. Motionless — until the moment someone noticed. Perhaps, many did, they just never said anything. Moved past her quietly without a second glance. She tucked a lock behind her ear, when approached, "I think this could be their emotions — " she began, gaze still fixated on the painting. "Every color representing an emotion."
It was certainly her own interpratation. It probably had nothing to do with what the artist truly had in mind, but they were not there to be asked now, were they?
"Do you think they're a happy person?"

Chung-Hee pressed his lips together, tilting his head slightly to the side as he tried to make sense of the painting. He wondered if the artist’s intention had anything to do with what’s been happening during the full moon, wondering if they had some sort of vision and decided to throw the paint onto the canvas, so to speak. The painting looked far too abstract for him to grasp completely, even with the explanation given on the plaque next to it.
He turned to the person next to him, hoping that they’re able to give him some enlightenment. “You know, I’m really bad at interpreting abstract arts like this. I wonder what the artist’s intentions are.”

It was nice — having someone speak up for her, even if it wasn't going to make a difference. The man simply shrugged at the pair and left. Regardless, Haylee offered her a soft smile and a rather loud thank you. Shouting over music and loud chatter was new to her.
She sipped on her drink — a rather large gulp rolled down her throat and it burnt at first. Vodka and very little of anything else. Blue eyes trailed down her glass, as she tried to hide the fact that this had been her first drink in over a year and a half, "What the hell do they put in these?" it was laughable, almost.
"Please, don't mock me — I have terrible taste in drinks."
A sheepish chuckle escaped her, as she moved even closer to the brunette. "People are — " a beat, " — jerks. Yeah, you're right." Haylee took another sip of her drinks. "He was a jerk, wasn't he?"
The blonde turned slightly to look at where Sofia was poiting at, "It looks nice over there. I have to see if my friends would be up for it." if she could even find the collegues that truly were not her friends — the fact that they worked together, did not make them her friends, yet Haylee, being who she was, always wore a pair of pink sunglasses.
"Oh, no. Please, don't trouble yourelf with me. Have fun with your friends. You're here with someone, right?"
Tumblr media
The girl certainly looked out of place as she attempted to hear Sofia better, the young woman watching as the other was elbowed by another patron. This was why people who just wanted to have a bit of fun ended up bailing on these sorts of places, fucking arseholes who didn't give a shit about other people acting like they had a right to be a jerk.
"Personal fucking space," Sofia said over the music to the person who had nudged the girl, poking the back of their arm with one of her nails, watching them roll their eyes at her. Sofia was trying not to get riled up lately but...it was hard. It was harder when it felt consistent, but at least she had the distraction of the softer girl who had been nudged in the first place, the one who had responded to her and deserved the same consideration back.
Sofia moved closer, so no one could inadvertently knock into the girl again. "I swear sometimes it's better, some people are just jerks," she insisted. "Though how loud it is? Well it's quieter upstairs usually, in the fancier parts." Not by much but right down by the bar, with everyone talking over one another...yeah, it was going to be loud.
Tumblr media
"This is your first time though?" she asked, leaning in this time to speak directly into the woman's ear so she could hear her. "You want a bodyguard?" Sofia half joked.

Talk more — only, when she's comfortable, and the pink moon was surely letting her tongue loose even before a stranger, which naturally had no way of happening. Light eyes continued to stare at one of the paintings, as she nodded, "Practice does make perfect, but I've never had any training in that — you know, I'm not sure middle school sunflower drawings are considered experience, so that's starting from scratch for me." Haylee explained; a little embarassed.
"Why are you not teaching classes yourself?" she was curious to know, "I've told you too much already, you can't send me off to some stranger." a chuckle followed through — technically Ezhil was a stranger themselves but she already trusted them enough.
Tumblr media
Ez continued to smile, but he frowned as well, his features aligning himself with amusement, he didn’t care for people who actually knew art to enjoy art. If anything, he loved people who had no idea, who say colours and meaning or saw none at all. His smile was present, it was grand. He found something to enjoy in people, and the way they looked at art said something about them. He did not mind them taking it for granted either, art was life, and to take it for granted was part of life too.
“A lot? Ah, not at all, if you want my interest, you should talk more, and to draw the face of another person, this is practice, practice makes perfect, anyone can learn. Would you like to learn? We teach classes nearby, at the college. Not me, but other artists,” he explained, a smile on his face, the blue hair bright in the gallery's light.

"Oh, I thought so." a small chuckle escaped her. Christopher, or Topher, whichever — they were both pretty.
"That's impressive, though. Not everyone can deal with saving kids and adults from drowning, on a daily basis." Haylee could, of course, not exactly in the form of pulling them away from the water, but her magic had certainly saved more than several lives.
"Losing is only normal. You can't always be at the top, you know. Sometimes losing helps build character." a soft smile crossed her features. Ever the optimist, that one. A hand came up to tuck a blonde lock behind her ear, fingers nervously scratching the skin behind her ear slightly. "Oh — " a beat, "Yeah — a guy that said "dude" a lot called, and a fifty year old stripper — " lips rolled together anxiously.
It was just her luck.
"I mean, I'm sure they're nice people, I'm just — " another pause, "I like you." soft, and warm. "The room is yours, if you want it."
Tumblr media
“Uhm… don’t know. It’s short for Christopher, so maybe,” they said, though it seemed that the other knew better. Topher had no idea whatsoever. Their mother had never explained where the name came from. They did know their dad had picked it, at least the nickname.
They chuckled. “I guess that means my hobby is safe,” they joked.
“In swimming?” They shook their head. “I’m not much of a swimmer, I got my rescue lessons and I am pretty good at dragging kids and adults from the water, but I’d never do competition for that. I’d get waaaay too invested and far too frustrated if I lose.”
A grin passed on their face. “Nice, okay, I didn’t think it would be that easy. Do you have any other candidates… or when should I expect to hear from you?”

"Please, don't get in trouble." a soft plea. As confident as she was, that Mei could take care of herself, Haylee didn't wish to see any of her friends hurt. Ever. She'd seen life slip through cold fingers, way too many times — even with magic, the kind she posessed running through her veins, she still couldn't bring someone back from the grave.
She adjusted her seat, in order to move closer — the music has gotten louder, and it has become difficult to hear the other, "You're forgetting the most important part about it, Mei — " she chuckled lightly, "Helping people. It's why I do it." shoulders lifted in a small shrug, "It's what I want to do for the rest of my life." a confession that she was not afraid to say out loud. It's who she always has been; a helping hand in need, even to strangers.
"Do you want to spend your whole life in here?" she arched a brow, "I don't think so."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mei had been happy enough on her own, grinding the bones of roadkill from the side of the highway and muttering incantations beneath her breath. witchcraft, in the last few years at least, had become something that was fashionable—books were sold in urban outfitters and little kitschy stores that were filled with misinformation. contented in the fact that she was going to live a solitary life, being welcomed into the coven and meeting fellow witches was somewhat of a unsuspected surprise. “oh, absolutely, but if karma seems to skip him in the queue, he’s messing with the wrong person.” mei’s hands were occupied. she narrowed her eyes and scraped at a water stain on the glass. “it’s never just silly hospital stuff. i don’t know how you do it, honestly—having a job that means you have to deal with humans and touch all their squishy bits. at least i have a quick turnaround. give them a drink and send them on their way.”

Working kept her out of trouble — not that she was the troubling type, but she was curious, and that curiousty often got her in messes she couldn't handle. Haylee couldn't remember if the coffee in her hands was her forth or her fifth, but it was working and Dr. Douche actually smiled for once, so it was a good day in her book. That was until witches starting showing up at the medical doors.
'Um, I'm sorry but you can't smoke here." she approached him; kindness lacing every word, despite the way her face wrinkled in slight disgust.
"Are you okay?" light eyes traced over his bruises, "Can I take a look?" she was already moving closer, without any permission granted.

Reza patted his jacket and his jeans looking for his lighter, bum dangling between his bruised lips. A string of curse filtered through when he couldn’t find his damn lighter, his fingers carding through his hair in frustration. He looked worse for wear, with both his knuckles bruised and his face no better. He could already feel his body repairing itself as he stood there, thanks to the spirits around him moving the magic around and inside him. Even when he wasn’t able to convey what he needed most of the time, the spirits always seemed to know when he was desperate enough to offer their help. It wasn’t without a price, though Reza never particular mind. He was fine now, and that was all that mattered.
Tumblr media
He spun around, looking for someone. “Hey.” Reza waved towards whoever’s nearest to him. “Think you can spot us a light, pretty?” He waved his cigarette that was now dangling between his fingers. “Must’ve dropped mine on my way here.”
