All things Buster Keaton, I swear this man is my life. 25 - born in the wrong era - constantly looking for a time machine - did I mention Buster Keaton?

An Open Letter To Buster Keaton
Dearest Buster,
There are 97 years between the year you were born and the year I was born. While you were cementing yourself into cinematic history, my Great-Grandparents were just young children, the youngest of whom was born in 1927. There are approximately 26 years in between your death date and my birth date. Fate wouldn’t allow me to share the planet with you while you were alive, but instead, space and time gave me the gift of your magical myriad of films.
I know that death was not the end for you, as you are undoubtedly living on in some form or another in a heaven, afterlife, or perhaps on another planet. I believe this to be true, not for the sake of “religious” beliefs, but deep down in my heart I strongly believe that death could never truly take the soul of an incredible man like you.
If you were here today, and I was given the opportunity, I would thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I would thank you for being in my life. For being a role model. For being one of my heroes. For being there for me in the darkest hours of my younger teenage years, when I felt hopeless and alone, when I felt as if all was lost. You were there for me when I felt as if the world turned away from me. You were there for me, to heal my soul with laughter. To remind me to be thankful for all of the little things, and to remind me that life is a gift and that I shouldn’t waste it. You were my friend, my good friend. And all these years later, you have never left my side.
Buster, I have come to the realization that you are not actually gone. You’ve only left in body, but not spirit. You have influenced generations with your work, and you’re very much alive and well in your films, your writing, and in the hearts of all of us that love you.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
You are so loved Buster. So incredibly loved.

So can we please talk about Buster Keaton’s ability to absolutely slay 19th Century garb/attire?

Damn, difficult question. Just seeing his face makes anything and everything better.
Which one of Busters Films cheers you up the most?
Or maybe not ‘cheer up’ but just makes you feel better.
(I’ve been really stressed for weeks now and I can’t decide which Buster film to watch tonight. I usually go to The Cameraman but that was the last one I watched :3 )

Sorry it’s out of sync, but his facial expression while making the parrot sounds is hilarious to me!

My first encounter with Buster was when I was four years old (I’m now 25), it was with my grandad. We would often spend the weekends watching oldies like Buster, Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy… I have him to thank for my love of the classics. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of Chaplin (not that I don’t appreciate his work, I guess he's just not for me). Anyway, as I said, first encounter was at four years old and watched him on/off throughout the years. I’d say my passion for him truly flourished about 5 years ago, I stumbled across a boxset on Amazon, rewatched the shorts and fell head over heels. From that point on I went about getting all his available works, including having films shipped from the U.S which weren’t available here in the U.K, collecting vintage film stills/photos and starting a Twitter account for me to be able to spread Buster around as much as possible.
I love the Buster fandom, it’s genuinely one of the most accepting and genuinely happy thing to be a part of.
Do you remember discovering Buster?
Since Buster has such an active fandom here i thought about asking you all about it because i’d love to hear all the stories! Do you remember how and when you found out about him? What was the first movie you saw him in? What were your thoughts/impressions? Anything you feel like sharing 💖
I don’t know if anyone will be interested in this so i’ll try to keep mine short!
So i’m relatively new to the fandom, I first came across him a few months ago, september/november (if only they mentioned anyone besides Charlie Chaplin at schools here when teaching, really briefly, about 1920s and silent film era it’d have been much much sooner). So! I can thank tumblr for that. I remember coming across a picture here and it was this one:

(image from ladybegood)
I remember being overall intrigued by it. I googled his name and i was stunned! Then i watched the high sign since i wanted something short to know what he’s all about and i was simply amazed! not only was he the most beautiful creature i have ever seen but he was also an extremely gifted person in every sense of this word.. and (surprsie) i did not stop there haha
Long story short i began watching and reading everything i could. I purchased my wonderful world of slapstick and buster keaton remembered at once (im from poland and its IMPOSSIBLE to find those here so thank god for my cousin who lives in the uk) now i’m waiting for the one by rudi blesh to arrive and i cant wait to get my hands on it! He quickly found his place in my heart and became something special to me (i observed that its the case for a lot of people who discover him and kind of fall in love with this man on and off the screen, i mean, how could you not?) Also because of Buster I discovered old hollywood which was like entering a whole new world to me hah! I was always passionate about films but I didn’t dive this deep into them. That’s something I’m extremely thankful for! This will sound soo cheesy but also for simply making me smile- i’m aaalways grinning like a total psycho when i watch his films.
k i could go on and on but i better stop here
