Hayley was more taken aback by the soft tone to Freddie's voice as he corrected her than she was by the act, would he need to use such a gentle touch when correcting anyone else? She was so sure that she was just being paranoid, that her own boyfriend didn't feel like he had to approach her carefully lest she bite his head off. Clearly she had more of an attitude than she had previously realised, especially if such a little thing could make the hair on the back of her arms stand up. Quickly Hayley finds herself lulled out of her thoughts, her mind brought back to attention as roaming hands tease her skin through the fabric of her dress. "But you forget one thing he doesn't have," with a dangerous glint in her eyes Hayley smiles up at Freddie, already plotting and planning away in her head "he doesn't have me. You do." With her high links to the political world, she could destroy Nick's chances of ever getting major in the industry within seconds, all it would take her is a phone call and it would be done.
The words dangle on the edge of her lips, she wanted to express the idea out loud, but somehow knew that Freddie wouldn't approve. "Then I will meet your sister, if just havng her home makes you happy lets do it that way" She may have been talking but her mind was far too preoccupied with thoughts of the damage she could do, her hands slowly rising up to cup Freddie's cheeks as she smiled back at him. "Arrange it with your parents" her lips curve into a nervous smile, even more aware of the vile person that she was than usual "and I will get up to date on my manners and such."

"Charlotte. I don’t like the name Lottie." Freddie corrected her in a gentle voice. His hands began to make a light, intimate circuit of her body, beginning at her waist and following the curve of her back upwards: then across her shoulders and returning to her hips in a steady motion. He smiled at the proximity - but the expression quickly faded as he considered her suggestion. "I don’t know… I don’t want everyone home at the same time. It’s selfish, I know, but…" The young man confessed, his eyes focused on some point over her shoulder. "I don’t like being at home when Nick is. He’s just to used to drawing attention that I always feel a little, uh, forgotten. Especially when Mom’s home too. He’s her golden boy. Smart, successful, confident, first born… I can’t compete with that."
The expulsion of these insecurities was tiring, and Freddie sighed lightly before turning a deliberate smile back on and meeting Hayley’s eyes again. “But, you can meet Casey. I like having her at home.” he concluded, wishing for a positive note.

"A road trip with just me, you and Lottie, it sounds rather appealing." Falling into Freddie's touch, Hayley slides her arms to rest around her boyfriends neck gazing up into his hazel eyes. "Just to warn you I can be quite the bitch on long journeys though" her fingers nervously play with tufts of hair at the nape of his neck "a sweaty Hayley without a shower for a long time is a very cranky Hayley." Slowly Hayley slips her hands down to rest on his shoulders, "Arrange it with your parents, maybe you should try and get everyone home at the same time." Although Hayley herself couldn't really imagine what it was like for Freddie to actually have a relationship, however rocky he felt it was, with his family.

For once, Freddie was confident when he spoke and the young man shook his head slowly, something of a smile crossing his lips. “Oh, I’ll never see them all at the same time.” he told her. A thoughtful expression then came to his face, as he tried to figure out just when the last time they had all been together was, and how long ago. “The last time we were all at home, and all together… would have been Christmas, three years ago. Since then, we haven’t all been around each other for more than an hour or two.” he confessed, shrugging lightly. But the keen tone of voice, unusual to hear from Hayley, didn’t pass his interest and he smiled reassuringly at her.
"If you wanted to at least go and meet my parents, though, and maybe either Casey or Nick… we could go home for a weekend. How’s that sound? So long as you can stand the drive to Maine. It’s, uh, pretty long." Freddie warned her, having made the journey many a time. Feeling a sudden rush of warmth at the idea, the young man then stood straight, tugging Hayley up with him, and placed his hands lightly on the curve of her hips. "If you want to, of course. Mom likes to know everyone in my life." he said, smiling broadly.

"That would require me to actually care. All I wanted was for you to stop talking."

"Sure, because the world is totally split into normal folks and freaks. I’ll do you a deal - I’ll be sunshine, you can be the awesome, dramatic storm clouds. Yes?”

"Because sunshine and rainbows is for freaks of nature."

"Someone might. And hey, I’m not really annoyed. It was entertaining. Maybe they woke you up too? You’re not exactly sunshine and rainbows right now."

Hayley treasured the reassuring touch of Freddie's skin against hers, her eyes glued to their joined hands. "Well that's a first" practically at a whisper the words leave her mouth, daringly raising her eyes upwards to meet the hazel ones that belonged to her boyfriend "I've never heard anyone say to me that someone would like to meet me." As always happened the dark thoughts began to plant and take root in her mind, one bad thought or memory followed after another that was equally as bleak.
"When was the last time you saw your family?" The concept itself was a pretty new one to the brunette, she had never really had the kind of family that Freddie did, people to be happy to be going home to. People to miss, and to be eager to introduce the important people in her life. "Perhaps we could arrange something?" Hayley's cheeks began to warm up as she quickly averted her eyes, worrying that she was beginning to sound too eager. "I mean, it'd be good for you to actually see them all again."

Unaware of quite how astonished and fear-filled Hayley’s expression had become, Freddie waited patiently and stared determinedly at his shoes for her to speak. It had been something he thought she should know, if only for the sake of openness - but in truth, there was little more to the story than what he had already said. And so when Hayley finally replied, her voice filled with the apprehension of bad news, he started and looked back at her with surprise clear in his expression and his dark, hazel eyes wide.
"Oh, uh, not at all! I mean, Mom’s wary of politicians because she knows how… entangled things like law become around them. But she doesn’t know you. And Dad was quiet and fair as always. They’d like to meet you sometime." The young man said, a brief smile returning to his lips. He placed a hesitant hand over the brunette’s, squeezing her fingers. "I mean, they have a politician for a son in Nick. They can’t be that prejudiced, right?" Freddie laughed, slightly uneasily as seemed to befit the situation.

"How about you just shut up altogether because no one cares"

"Oh, how peaceful to wake up to somebody having loud sex in the girl’s dorms. Come on - who wants to own up?"

Hayley's blood turned to ice in her veins as she registered what Freddie had just said, her gaze locked onto a wall at the other side of the room. She knew it had to happen eventually, she herself had dragged Freddie with her to meet her parents, she couldn't exactly say that he wasn't allowed to do the same. Didn't stop her from being scared for what they would think of her dating their son, especially if they just considered her a filthy politicians daughter. Of course she wouldn't blame them if they did, she had referred to herself in such a manner a fair few times, but out of anyone she did actually want to make a good impression on her boyfriend's family. Was the chance already ruined for her? "Let me guess" she starts with a soft sigh, refocusing her eyes on Freddie with a slight tilt of her head "they told you to start running for the hills because I'm a bad seed."
Practically holding her breath Hayley waits to hear the response of Freddie's parents, an uncharacteristic for her spark of optimism had her hoping that she had completely overreacted this. But through many bad experiences, she knew that where her parents were involved, nothing good could ever come of it.

Almost as soon as her head touched down on his shoulder, the familiar weight made Freddie smile and he woud an arm gently around Hayley’s own shoulders: his fingers stroked her upper arm thoughtfully. The position seemed very peaceful, and had a real effect on pacifying the young man’s nerves. Everything was just as he wanted it. “For starters, I definitely agree with you being an amazing girlfriend. I’m, uh, glad we settled that.” he replied, faltering only slightly as he paid the compliment. “But my day wasn’t productive in terms of assignments. I… don’t do them unless I have to. And I didn’t have to, today.” Freddie closed that topic quickly and glanced away, his gaze sweeping rapidly across the room and them out of the dorm window, where the grounds were bathed in the late summer sunshine and the trees buffeted lightly with a gentle breeze.
"Otherwise… I just talked to my parents. They’ve, uh, heard of yours." The boy added, and he determinedly avoided Hayley’s eyes as he brought up the subject of family. It wasn’t a particularly pleasurable topic for either of them.

"I agree" Hayley replies through her smile, her eyes following Freddie as he moves to stand beside her "I would definitely see you than do those assignments," Hey eyes flicker over to the display of discarded books strewn across her bed, "But of course you know me too well, and realised that you most certainly had not interrupted anything." Glancing back at her boyfriend, her eyes locked onto his hazel ones, a new kind of feeling that Hayley had never felt before began to burn in her chest. She didn't like it, she didn't like not knowing what this meant for her. Breaking away from the gaze, Hayley shuffles closer to Freddie and then places her head on his shoulder, hoping to hide her inner struggles with emotion from his knowing hazel gaze. "What about you" she mutters from her comfortable position "did you have a productive day, you know apart from picking out some wonderful flowers for you amazing girlfriend."
Cross My Heart || Hayley
The description of her day didn’t sound particuarly appealing to Freddie, but then again he was aware of how different the two were when it came to interests. He still grinned at her, knowing how rewarding it would have been for Hayley to spend a day in such a way - and he was nobody to say she couldn’t enjoy it. Freddie shuffled on his feet slightly where he stood, unwilling to take a seat without being invited, and eventually just shoved his hands into his pockets as he continued to smile at her.
"Sounds like a productive day. I, uh, thought maybe I’d interrupted you studying, so I felt bad for a little while." he confessed, briefly waving his hand over to the haphazard display of books strewn out over her bed. The awkward feeling still remained in his mind, and the young man cleared his throat loudly as though that would do something to dispel it - but he found it didn’t. “I should probably be studying too. I mean, assignments are piling up… but I figured, why do that when I could come to see you instead? Much better, if you ask me.” he said, rather suddenly and sweetly and Freddie then took a couple of steps across the room, so that he might lean against the desk beside Hayley.

Taking the bunch of flowers that Freddie passed to her, doing her best to show through her facial features how grateful she truly was for the kind gesture, she inspects them up close. No one had ever bought her flowers before, she always wanted to remember this moment, and how she felt. "I don't have a favourite flower, so there was no way that you could go wrong" Leaning over to her boyfriend Hayley gently presses her lips against his in a quick thank you peck, the quick kiss to show the gratitude that she had failed to express with words. But after shutting the door after Freddie it suddenly struck the brunette that she had no idea what to do with the the beautiful roses now, she'd never had to deal with plants herself, they always hired someone for that kind of stuff. Hayley was so lost in her thoughts that she only just heard what Freddie was saying to her, catching her off guard slightly she stands in silence as she fumbles for an answer. Particularly an answer that wouldn't make him worry, so she buys a little time by walking to a desk and gently places the bunch on there to figure out later on what she should do with them.
Turning back round and meeting Freddie's gaze Hayley seems to automatically smile, leaning back against the desk as she does so "Well I treated myself." She begins, inspecting the nails that she had been filing at before her surprise visit. "Had a manicure, got an upgrade on my hair , some more shopping so don't worry you haven't missed much."
Cross My Heart || Hayley
Hayley’s positive reaction was enough to stimulate a similarly wide smile on his own face, the glow of surprise and pleasure on the brunette’s features bringing a wonderful warmth to his chest. Freddie held the large bouquet out towards her and pressed it into her fingers, a laugh just lightly emerging from his lips. “You’re welcome. I’m glad you like them! Sorry, though - I don’t even know what your favourite flowers are, so I just picked the prettiest ones I could see.” he confessed, shrugging a little in embarrassment. Stepping into the room, Freddie glanced around the space and noticed the various books and papers strewn around Hayley’s side of the dorm. Perhaps he had interrupted her studying - but judging by the neatness of it all, it was something he doubted and so didn’t feel guilty.
The young man closed the door behind him with a gentle click and then grinned at Hayley. “So, uh… I feel like I haven’t seen you for a while. How have you been?” he asked sweetly, rubbing the tufty hair on the back of his head in a slightly awkward manner and meeting her gaze with a warm, steady look in his eyes.

Sat cross legged on her bed, Hayley was surrounded by open books and discarded pens, all of which she hadn't looked at let alone touched for over an hour now. Surely, she figured, she'd get points for attempting to do the homework, it wasn't her fault that her nails looked a terrible mess and needed to be cleaned up. Its not like she could rush the filing either, if she did that then she risked making her nails worse, no the homework would definitely have to wait until she had completed the important things that she needed to. Continuing on with the ritualistic rhythm as she files away at the nails comes a gentle tap on the door, Hayley barely looking up as she stands from her perch on the bed and begins striding over to the door. As she gently pulls the door open Hayley's eyes are suddenly bathed in bright red, the strong scent of the roses floating and drifting up her nose.
Instantly the edges of her mouth curl up in a smile, reaching out to gently touch the soft petals and admire their beauty avoiding eye contact until she had formed a response to such a gesture. Hayley honestly had no idea what the correct response was to this, if she got this wrong she risked hurting Freddie's feelings. "Freddie..." braving it she lifts her eyes from the flowers to meet the hazel ones of her boyfriend's "They're wonderful. Thank you."
Cross My Heart || Hayley
Recent conversations had led Freddie to think that perhaps he wasn’t romantic enough with Hayley. In all honesty, he was unsure where exactly he fell on such a scale during their relationship so far, but he recalled how her home back in California had been filled with fresh flowers. And that seemed like a decent enough place for him to start. It was a short trip into Woodbay to purchase a bouquet of red roses (they were romantic, right?), and Freddie had soon returned to campus and walked the small distance between the parking lot and the girls’ dorm. He received plenty a sideways glance and many grins as he made his way through the grounds and into the building, to which he usually replied with a timid nod and a brief smile. It encouraged him - it seemed he was on the right track with the romance.
Soon enough, he found himself outside the door to Hayley’s dorm room and straightened the flowers in preparation. He held them carefully, so that the bright blooms would be the first thing she saw upon opening to door - rather than his own face, peeking just over the bunch. Freddie knocked carefully on the wood - three quick raps - and stood back slightly to wait, the smile on his lips an optmistic one.
