Haylie had been sent on a bit of a quest by her therapist. There was a specific book she was encouraged to read, in the hopes that it would help her cope with her trauma. That was the sole reason she had closed the shop early and made her way downtown to go to the book store.
She had spent some time looking at the shelves by herself with no success. The brunette had now hoped to find someone to assist her when, instead... she was greeted by a sight she wasn’t sure she wanted. Grimacing, she quickly averted her eyes, feeling as though she had seen something wrong and forbidden. “I was hoping to find a specific group,” she replied. She now held her hand up to her face, acting as a blinder between the two of them. “It’s a self-help novel, something like ‘The Body Keeps the Score’. Also, maybe a shirt on? That’d be great. Most places here are ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service.’ So...”

Unsteady, he was but so was this town… Not quite as unsteady as the book store he purchased three weeks ago, it was brought on a whim to give him something to do in this town to distract the single father of four, keep the soldier’s past at bay. Anyhow, the sun rays shone down brightly on this fateful morning and he had been busy since dawn ripping apart the shelves. The hollowed out nook in the far back of the store, his knee on the base where the seat would be, rapping from the hammer upon nail into wood panel and icy hues fixated on the lead marked dot to where the second nail is to be placed. Nail cushioned between two rosed lips, shirt had long fallen from his shoulder to find its new place on top of a bunch of old books that where stacked around him… a barrier between himself and the world.
Completely unaware that he wasn’t alone in the store, seeing as the store door had been wide open since he carried the wood inside the store prior and the repetitive tap on wood from his hammer drowned out the sound of footsteps. Only did he become aware of the person was when he went to get another sheet of wood, the shirtless owner was in the motion to bend down only to stiffen catching a glimpse from his peripheral vision of a set of legs and well he straighten back out. “Buna dimineata… Uh. Sorry, I meant to say good morning,” Sorin shook his head to rattle his brain that he wasn’t in Romania anymore. “Is there anything I can help you with?” Offering his most charming of smiles, forgetting that he was very much shirtless in front of this person with his feet gliding him around the planks of wood.

If someone were to look at Haylie in the eyes, it was obvious that she wasn’t okay, not even a little bit. Nothing had been the same for her since she had found Hannah’s body that morning. The brunette often found herself lost in her own thoughts about that day; this was one of those times. She had been staring off into space when she heard someone speak up, she wasn’t even sure if they were speaking to her. “What?” she asked, looking up “I, uh -- I wasn’t paying attention. So, like, can you please repeat that?” / @rosecastlestarters

DIVORCE TW, DEATH TW, DEAD BODY TW, ALCOHOL TW
Haylie was born in Rosecastle. The only child of a high school history teacher and a local beautician. Her early years were absolutely perfect and she had everything she could have ever wanted.
Around the age of ten, her parents divorced. She wouldn’t know it until years later but her mother had been having an affair and her father finally had enough. The next five years she was bounced between her parents’ homes until finally, her father won full custody when she was fifteen. Her mother didn’t seem to care and eventually gave up her parental rights. Free and clear, Haylie and her father moved out of state.
The next decade for Haylie was quite eventful. She discovered a love for ancient history as well as business. At one point, she was certain that she was going to be an archaeologist. She’d be the female Indiana Jones. Soon, those dreams fizzled out and dreams of being a small business owner grew.
She went to a CUNY school for business, though she also has an associates degree in anthropology. After seeing a small smoothie shop in upstate NY, she knew that eventually, she’d want to return home to open one up on the boardwalk. And that’s exactly what she did.
Quirky, fun, and a bit of a rebel, Haylie never paid mind to the town’s history. Her parents had moved there in the 90s and she truly believed that she never would have had to worry about any of it. She’s truly a peace, love, and smoke kind of girl. Those worries ended on February 21st.
Haylie was the one that found Hannah’s body on the beach while out to take her dog for a walk. Horrified by what she saw, Haylie has been spending her days since trying so desperately to forget it all, while also drinking herself into a bit of a stupor.
