Uhhh artfight post! I just wanted to show off all the (not many) attacks I made and give love to those that attacked me :D
starting with attacks, @dabreadcat made this first one of my magical girl oc Cecilia (she’s appeared on my blog in the background but I’ve been meaning to post more oc stuff)
Tumblr media
Next is from @hazelence
Tumblr media
I did make revenge attacks but I wanna cover those later
Moving onto my attacks, I decided for the first one to be a full on painting and then I proceeded to burnout for the rest of the first two weeks but I’m proud of how it turned out (also the character on the right’s owner doesn’t have a tumblr but the left belongs to @ruetheabyss )
Tumblr media
Then I drew @beddybites demon slayer sona (and clouds! so many clouds) I’ll admit I had Sylvie from epithet erased on the mind when I was drawing them lol and their little lightning bolt horns
Tumblr media
@groovyfrogged was the last non-defense attack I had, but I thought their character was really cute. Not much to say other than braids are hard to draw and the hair monster is a really cool idea
Tumblr media
And for defenses I kept it simple
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but yeah :D that’s my first artfight! I think I’m gonna participate next year too (assuming college doesn’t get in the way again) and hopefully I don’t set my goals for ‘an attack a day’ too high again 😅

I’m not sure if this is a hot take or not, but I believe that if you only make fanseries with the goal of gathering as many likes, reblogs, comments, or readers as possible, then you’re not going about it with the right thought process.
While it’s great if you can make your fanseries popular, if you go about it solely with the thought process of, “I want this to be popular, and if it’s not popular, I won’t even work on it or finish writing it,” then you’re putting your energy in the wrong areas and you won’t have any fun. When making your fanseries, make it for your enjoyment, and worry about how much others enjoy it later.
I’ve seen an unfinished fanseries where the creator said something to the effect of, “I’m never finishing this fanseries, and if you guys actually wanted me to finish it, you would’ve liked it and left comments.” Don’t think like that! If you have a story to tell, just tell it! Don’t worry about what others think, just put your thoughts and ideas into the world!

Verdant Earth Precure, master list:
A full collection of my fancure team, Verdant Earth Precure (sometimes referred to as VE precure). Info also including villain, fairy, and powers.
Regular cure forms:
Tumblr media
Power-up forms:
Tumblr media
Fairy/seed forms (note, if the VE cures get defeated, they revert back to a magical acorn, palm sized, to recover. After a while, they sprout into this fairy form, from which they can continue to recover their energy to restore to normal.)(They are incredibly goofy in this form)
Tumblr media
Their transformation items:
Tumblr media
Note on transformation items: The Forest pouch looks like the face of their fairy partner. It's not the fairy itself, but the respective fairy can go in it to tag along with their cure to school etc without being sussed out.
While the cures initially have to have their fairies around to transform, they eventually become able to do so without, just using the forest pouch and the crown seed.
Setting:
Morihana city, a seashore city in Japan, surrounded by verdant oak forests and populated with herds of sacred deer. Here, Mimori, Jin, Kaneko, and Miho are all in the same class at Junior school. Mimori, although on okay terms with Miho, is a bit of a loner, and Jin in particular seems to pick on her a lot for her absent-minded behaviour, and difficulties working in teams. Kaneko, seemingly the sensible head of the class, calls out Jin's behaviour when it goes too far, but is a bit stand-offish, too focused on her studies. A bit of a teacher's pet. Mimori is frustrated at Jin's jibes. She knows she has a point. She wishes things were different, but she can't stop her mind wandering, or bring herself to speak up for herself either. She imagines being able to do something to earn the respect of her classmates, but laments how hard it seems to be to change and improve herself. Even the deer change more than her. One of them is trying to eat her hair.
Then she runs into Buttercup, a beaver fairy from The Forest Kingdom, which has just been taken over by a new enemy.
Harvest, a malevolent entity determined to take all the wealth of the worlds for itself, has taken over the Forest Kingdom, trapped all its fairies, and is slowly stealing all the energy from the plant life there. Buttercup is supposed to find the mythical Forest Crown that holds the power to restore the kingdom and see off Harvest entirely. She and the others- Beri, Boo, Bark, and Bushi, her brother- had been searching for it in the Forest Kingdom before Harvest forced them to retreat. They escaped through a mysterious magical anomaly, but got separated on the way. Harvest's creatures attack and Mimori becomes Cure Crown.
Over the next year, they each find their fairy partners, (Beri, Bark, and Boo) and meet Machimachi Suzu: a witch who turns out to actually be a cat and former witches familiar, who now has magic and wants to help the cures. They also learn that Bushi got stuck behind in the Forest Kingdom, and that whoever reassembles the forest crown becomes the Forest Queen, and unlocks the whole power of the kingdom, but no one is sure how to resassemble the crown or where to find the bits. Suzu helps them out with this, lending her home as a base, and powers to try and find the pieces before Harvest does.
They also discover Sprout/Haru, a jittery deer forest fairy who got thrown to Earth in Harvest's attack, and has been hiding at a nearby shrine, having been taken in in her human form. She joins the others and eventually becomes the fifth precure.
After constantly rebuffing his attacks, Harvest sets his sights on Earth, and the Verdant Earth Cures have to fight that off too, seeing their whole world reduced to dust. The Verdant Earth cures band together to reignite growth in the world, and eventually see off Harvest entirely.
Characters:
Uesugi Mimori, Cure Crown. Lover of plants, can climb trees in a pinch, and has gotten herself ill more than once sleeping out under them with her childhood friend Ayaka, and the deer their town is well known for. Bit of a loner, not doing too well at school and her apparently dedicated bully Jin picks on her for being distracted and weird all the time.
Mimori is more of a loner because she lost her close childhood friend Ayaka when she got sick the previous year. She spent a lot of time looking after her instead of working on schoolwork, and not only is she not quite ready to make new friendships because of it, her schoolmates are almost too sympathetic about it all, and she doesn't like that, even though she doesn't speak up about it. Jin doesn't like that she doesn't say anything either. Later on, Sprout has a crisis of confidence when she thinks she learns that Ayaka was supposed to be precure and her partner instead of Sprout herself, but this is unfounded (and at this point, irrelevant).
As Cure Crown: Crown is the leader of Verdant Earth precure. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and wants to talk it out with Harvest instead of fighting, but she knows when they have to fight too, and doesn't shy away from it. She's quite good at seeing through the reasoning as to why a Motw might be attacking a certain way, and coming up with a way to counter it- she's quite good at working with Cure Bell in that way. Sometimes her heart is bigger than her ability, and her teammates have to save her from being steamrollered. She quickly learns how to be a good team leader, playing on everyone's strengths, and her own, although it takes a while for her to learn how to delegate well, and trust her teammates fully. Her fairy partner is Buttercup, a beaver fairy, and her signature attack, Forest Crown! summons a massive oak tree right in the motw's face.
Hayashi Jin, Cure Rush: The jock/sporty one of the team. Comes across as self-confident, even a bit arrogant at the start. Very invested in being the best and being the winner, especially in sports, and it annoys her when others aren't approaching life in the same way. Always seems to be the most sporty one- is picked first for all the teams, is popular, has fangirls etc. Has a crisis of confidence when the other four cures all turn out to actually be better than her at certain sports, and she doesn't feel like she deserves the title of being the sporty one anymore. They point out that Jin enjoys and loves sports the most, and that's the difference.
She's a sporty, popular kid, who loves to make things into a competition (and can never back down from a challenge), runs everywhere she can and jumps over her garden gate when she gets home. Her favorite animals are flamingos. Her mother is incredibly pushy and competitive (which is where Jin gets it from), and is what got Jin into doing so many different sports at a young age. Jin has gravitated to the more non-feminine sports or disciplines over time (Vault and soccer are her favorites), and she has quite the reputation as a tomboy. Jin's mother has videos of a younger Jin doing gymnastics floorwork that Jin never wants anyone to see because it would ruin her reputation (she is dressed in a girly outfit and hairdo and is still very baby-faced). Later on, her experiences with her fellow cures make her wish she had a sibling.
As Cure Rush: Rush does a lot of the physical work of the team, fighting and distracting the motw while the others figure out how to purify it. Takes a lot of hits as a result, but is one of the more resilient cures of the team in this respect. Despite being the second cure to transform, she is last option for group leader due to her rash nature. But sometimes her spontaneous actions opens up the exact opportunity for them to win the day. Her fairy partner is Beri, a squirrel fairy, and her signature attack, Dragon's Rush creates multiple appearances of herself around the enemy from where she's moving so fast.
Takeshi Kaneko, Cure Bell: The book-smart one, and class representative. Kaneko is always considered the mature and sensible one, and she is often the voice of reason, at least spelling out why they shouldn't really be doing something before they do it anyway. She is cousins with Miho by their mothers, and is often tasked with looking after Miho. She gets very protective of her little cousin.
Kaneko's mom works and lives at a shrine, and Kaneko likes to help out when she can. But quite often, due to the simplistic nature of their home there, she often has to go to her aunt's place (Rice cafe) to do homework etc. In fact, their parents often share babysitting duties, so she spends a lot of time around Miho after school. It's little surprise she's attracted to the relevant quiet of the shrine and chance to spend time with her mom.
Kaneko has a soft spot for animals, especially cutes dogs and puppies- she practically melts into a different person when they're around. She is one of the first ones to spot and help out Sprout when she is lost on Earth.
As Cure Bell, she uses sound and pollen-based attacks, useful for dazing or distracting the enemy. During her time as a cure, she gets frustrated at her teammates bad decision making, and makes a move to become team leader. But this is hijacked by the enemy, and she is magically corrupted and turned to work for them instead. Even after she is saved, she holds onto a guilt about the whole thing, despite her teammates forgiveness, which makes her a different sort of reckless she needs to face up to. Her partner is Bark, a dog fairy, and her signature attack, Bellflower, summons a giant flower to wrap the enemy up in.
Yasuda Miho, Cure Rice: Somehow simultaneously the most outgoing and the baby of the group, Miho is a bubbly bundle of joy who is always led by her stomach. She Loves food, and loves helping out her parents at their shop, Rice cafe (where they also live). Miho is one of the few trying to become closer friends with Mimori at the start of the series, but keeps getting blocked out. She ropes Kaneko into her schemes to cheer Mimori up, but they both get targeted by Harvest before they can carry them out.
Miho has a 'have a go' attitude to anything, at least once. Maybe twice. Which is great except where she can't swim and Kaneko has to sometimes save her from herself. Miho is also secretly still afraid of the dark, and hasn't completely dismissed the ideas of monsters being real. Her teammates realise that she actually finds their motw encounters really scary, but puts on a brave face every time for everyone else. Miho refers to Kaneko as her older sister (they're cousins), but everyone is surprised when they discover that Miho is the older one- it turns out that Miho's mom is the younger sibling of their moms, and Miho copied what she used thinking that's how it worked, and it stuck.
Miho's dad is a former Buddhist monk, and now works at the cafe. Miho chooses to be vegetarian like him, and loves learning to help him cook. They are a very close-knit, loving family. The family also often refer to Kaneko as Miho's sister, and Kaneko has her own room there too. Kaneko and Miho also argue like siblings.
Miho's spontaneous streak has had her transform into her seed form more than once just so she can see what eating her bodyweight in "X" is actually like.
As Cure Rice, she uses a lot of rice and food themed powers and attacks. She can help power-up her teammates, and has a strong rice ball shield defense. Her partner is Boo (panda fairy) and her signature attack, Onigiri energy! summons a giant rice ball and steamrollers the enemy with it. Even mid-fight she gets distracted by food.
Kakogi Haru, Sprout (or Spring, or Bounce.), Cure Spring: Haru is a young fawn-form forest fairy from the forest kingdom, who was thrown to Earth in the initial magical explosion of Harvest's attack on their world. Lost, and having difficulties with a newly discovered human form, she is taken in by a kind old groundskeeper at one of the shrines. Sprout is very skittish, prone to startle and bolt, and often changes into deer form when she does. It takes a while for other people to earn her trust, and the cures slowly work to build up her confidence around other people when they get to know her. It doesn't override her instinct to run, but it, and they, help to manage it.
As she learns more about Earth, she becomes interested in various sports, although she finds it difficult to participate in them. She slowly connects with her own sense of self-confidence, and achievement, which helps build up her strength as a cure to stand up and help save her world.
As Cure Spring, she does a lot of jumping and flipping attacks. Her most iconic attack, Heart-roar courage! has her stand one to one against the motw and halt them with a face-to-face grapple, magically embodying a locking of horns. As a fairy herself, she has no fairy partner. She finds this a little lonely and isolating, until she realises she is powered by the love and kindness the others have shown her, and that this is her way of repaying that back.
Fairy forms: Sprout possibly has the most fairy forms of any fairy: She has her default fawn form, your typical fairy style barely any bigger than a puppy; she has a regular deer form, her fastest and most likely to default to to bolt with or hide in when she's on Earth; and she has her human form, looking like a young schoolkid like Mimori and the others. She also has access to the same acorn and 'fairy' seed forms as the other cures: She can progress to her own fawn fairy and deer forms as an additional stepping stone as she recovers.
She has absolutely done the 101 dorky deer things you see on youtube while in her full deer form, and the others often have to untangle her from situations she's run into when she's bolted.
Fairies:
Buttercup: Beaver fairy, and Crown's partner. The first to find a precure and help them transform. She seems to know what she's doing, but it turns out her brother knew more than she did, but she's just filling the gap. She wants to fulfil his mission now that he was caught in the forest kingdom.
Early on, she was relegated from her role as Crown's fairy partner, because Beri pointed out their connection couldn't be strong because Crown is a tree cure and Buttercup is a creature that destroys trees. She is briefly partnered with Rush, but isn't happy, and returns to Crown when Mimori wants her back, refusing to partner with anyone else.
Buttercup is something of an unconventional fairy, and the only one of the VE partner fairies that can't fly. She has a sense of humor, magically putting on a wand, wings, tiara and tutu in promise of a magical solution, only to turn around and deliver said magic by smacking the target on the head with her tail. ("You're the weirdest Tinkerbell I've ever seen.") She has a very good sense of when the cures need cheering up, and often acts to counter Beri's less considerate drive for action. At the end of the season, Mimori asks Buttercup to act as regent of the crown, and be the Queen of the forest kingdom in her stead.
Beri: A red squirrel fairy, and Rush's partner. Back in the forest kingdom, Beri worked closely with the forest guard, and is one of the most senior fairies except for Bushi. He often ends up taking over planning etc, but doesn't seem to realise the cures are young people, who have day-to-day lives on Earth they need to consider as well.
He does learn, realising that certain elements of the magic are best allowed to bloom at their own pace. He is one of the more independent fairies, often going off and doing reconnaissance by himself, although he has landed in trouble more than once by doing so.
Boo: A soft-spoken panda fairy, and Rice's partner. One of the less experienced fairies, and tends to stay out of the conversation: if it were down to him, he'd just sit around eating all day. Wants to get back to the forest kingdom to do just that. Shares Miho's curiosity for Earth.
Bark: An intelligent dog fairy, and Bell's partner. Makes full use of her ability to blend in as a regular pet to learn more about the world and do reconnaissance missions. Secretly loves all the attention and pampering she gets from Kaneko, and, surprisingly, Kaneko's mom, who is outwardly even more reserved than her daughter.
Sprout: Fawn forest fairy. Not one of the palace fairies group, but got caught up in the magical backwash of Harvest's initial attack and ended up stranded on Earth. Becomes Cure Spring.
Bushi: Buttercup's brother and leader of the forest kingdom defense forces. Lost in the forest kingdom when Harvest attacked, he is later found and released when the Precures take the kingdom back. Bushi stayed behind to hold up the defenses long enough for his sister and the others to escape.
The forest kingdom fairies are more independent and pro-active than other precure fairies in working to help save their kingdom when the cures are otherwise busy. They keep in close contact with each other, which often surprises the cures when even they don't know exactly what each other are doing.
Other Allies and important characters:
Machimachi Suzu: The familiar of a witch that lived on Earth, Suzu inherited her house and everything inside, continuing to live there after her owner passed away. On seeing the young precures, Suzu wanted to help, and that wish, and a fifth fragment of the forest crown allows her to transform into a human and use magic (cure up rappa pa!). She aids the precure by creating forest glade magical enclosures, that keep the fighting and monsters safely away from the real world. She looks after the cures, often being the responsible adult. Her role is akin to that Rosemary had.
Later on she surrenders the fifth fragment of the forest crown so the cures can get stronger, but it means Suzu will revert to being a non-magical cat. The other cures care about her so much that they refuse to let this happen permanently and find a way to restore her powers.
Ayaka: Mimori's best friend from a young age. Died before the story starts- terminal illness, not much the doctors could have done. Mimori is still mourning her, but hides it as much as she can.
When the two were young, and before Ayaka got ill, she gave Mimori an acorn she found in the forest, and said the acorn was a sign of their friendship, and how it would always grow, even if they were far away. As the story starts, Mimori is heavily into gardening, and botany, trying to get this acorn to grow. But it refuses to sprout.
Gradually, as she becomes more and more involved in precure stuff, she spends less and less time on the acorn, before she realises that she's gone too long and forgotten it altogether. Mimori rushes back to the acorn, full of fear of what has happened to it in her absence, only to find that nothing has changed at all. It hasn't sprouted.
In the final fight with Harvest, the Earth is razed, and all plant life destroyed and turned to dust. The cures use their power to get the world to grow again, and Crown later realises that the very first sprout to respond, that leaf of hope peeking through the ash, was from that acorn. It grew at last.
Kakogi Touri: Elderly gentleman who took Haru in when he found her as a suspected abandoned fawn, and then continued to look after her without question when she turned into a human child. His own family has moved on and he barely sees them anymore. He spends his time looking after the deer in the park. Named Haru for the time he discovered her. One week, the villains enact the opposite of his wish to see his family again, making all the other people in the town disappear. But Haru connects with him as family, weakening the power of the spell and allowing them to break it.
The Villains:
Harvest corp- the base of Earth operations for Harvest's minions.
Harvest: Leader and bbeg. Seeks to take things for itself: energy, objects, entire worlds. Harvest is greed manifested as a being, and all he does is devour and want more. Often stays behind the scenes, feeding off stolen things. The more we learn about Morihana (town), the more we learn how its people are defined by things they've lost.
Berni: A shapeshifting fox fairy with fire/aurora powers. Usually in human form for his work. Disgruntled former citizen of the Forest Kingdom.
Unnamed human general: Turns out to be Ayaka's dad, recruited by Harvest while he was wallowing in his grief.
(+ 1 or 2 other generals to fill out the villain roster)
Villain powers: The villains steal energy and things people want or need to fuel their monsters, delighting in the upset they create when they do so. (eg, character wants tickets to a popular show. Villain takes the rest so they become sold out, and guy can't get the gift for his daughter.) The villains are focused on greed and taking things of worth for themselves, while the cures are focused on community, nature, and growth.
The cures powers:
Different to other seasons, the cures have the ability to make peoples more unusual dreams and imagination come to life to create counter-creatures to the villains motw. One example is how a young kid wanted to be a fire hydrant- the cures powers turn him into a giant magical fire hydrant which helps fight against the enemy. The kid's delight from this powers up the precure, and enables them to purify the enemy motw. Afterwards, they nudge him towards maybe wanting to be a firefighter instead, and we see the kid happily visiting a fire station.
A spin-off of this power means that they can give, or re-active other cures wings or flight powers. To the VE precure, they can see small versions of the other cures wings when the other cures cannot (they get surprised that the Hapchar girls wings are universally there). They just need to put hands on to bring the wings out.
Part of the magic of the forest kingdom means that while Haru is in her human form, she still retains her small antlers and sticky out ears that should betray her as a fairy. But it turns out that only magic users, and precure can see the antlers. Most normal people can't. This can change if people are let into their secret identity. It does cause some anxiety when Haru first attends school.
This sort of camouflage magic also works in their cure forms- Their outfits, in particular the grassy/floral cloaks or capes can expand and cover them entirely in a pinch. They frequently evade the enemy this way.
Acorn form: Acorns are a big part of the symbolism of the VE cures (and the forest kingdom). Later on, when the VE cures start facing off against stronger enemies, when they are defeated, they poof to an acorn form, with them sleeping inside as they recover. Their fairies and friends tend to keep them safe in this form until they are able to sprout back into themselves.
Seed form: Partway through, the cures visit the forest kingdom and are turned into fairy form for the visit. Which seems to go wrong when they are turned into these seed or pea-like things. They can bounce themselves around, and talk, but are very limited in what else they can do until they revert. Afterwards, they can access this form as an intermediate stage from the acorn form, or enter it willingly to traverse a small space or something. It still takes time to regain enough energy to revert to full form though. (Although miracle light energy breaks this rule, so there is at least one all stars moment where Crown gets powered up, jumps into her fairy form, and just gets yeeted at the enemy by one of the older, more sporty cures (Bloom probs)). For just being green blobs with eyes and a hairbow, they are particularly expressive in their fairy form.

Precure outfit swap: Cures Honey and Peace!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, fun fact: when I was making the original drawings, I'd use a previous cure drawing as a base for the next, but not always an obvious one. Cures Blossom, Flora, and Sparkle became the bases for more cures than you'd expect. I'm pretty sure, that here, Cure Peace was the base for Cure Honey. And now we're going back the other way.
