given that "which smash bros ultimate characters canonically [thing]" videos are like a genre now I have legitimately considered turning this idea into one of those, but the way people reacted to my series icon ranking video combined with the general fact that transphobia exists means that if I wanted to avoid a completely inhabitable comments section a video about "which smash bros characters are trans" would need to begin with like a fifteen minute preamble going over the basics of both media analysis and gender and wow I'm not making that. someone else should though

like I lampshaded it in the video. in the opening section I said "I'm going to skip the standard disclaimer" because, you know, I'm assuming the viewer has seen ranking videos before and knows that they all start with the same paragraph where the youtuber condescendingly reassures you that you're not a bad person for disagreeing with their opinions. and I respected my audience and actively decided not to waste their time by doing that. but no there is a reason every ranking video does that, apparently

my biggest mistake with the smash bros series icon ranking video was respecting the audience too much. I should not have assumed everyone watching the video would already understand that opinions by nature of being opinions are inherently biased and subjective without me going out of my way to explicitly say for every single one "this is a subjective opinion I personally hold based on my own limited perspective on the source material. I am morally obligated to acknowledge the fact that you are likely to disagree with this opinion"
