"tell me about jakku." he knew about the planet, its rather insignificant existence in the grand scheme of things, and he could seek out rey's particular view of the planet via the thread of their connection through the force. yet, still, he wished to hear it from her own mouth; something backwards, perhaps, about the way their intimacy could switch from spoken to unspoken, back to spoken again. HE WANTED TO LISTEN, most importantly, about the home that had crafted this warrior of a woman.

jakku had been the entirety of rey’s existence and her identity for the majority of her years alive. when her parents had abandoned her there, junk traders who needed extra money to get elsewhere in the galaxy, she had made the desert planet into who she was, waiting desperately for their return. she had been sculpted on the sands, turned from a scared child into an angry force of nature and she had been hardened by the landscapes, crafting her into someone not to be trifled with. 

she thought for a time, a quiet moment of consideration, before she began. ❝ jakku was a dangerous place for anyone, let alone a child. ❞ carefully, hazel eyes focused on the distance as if she could see the outline of niima outpost and hear the arguing and snarling of the scavengers who resided there. 

❝ that being said, it was a way to guide me into the person i am today. if you couldn’t scavenge, you couldn’t live. the remnants of the empire and the rebellion were meal tickets and it taught me from a young age that the only person you could rely on was yourself. ❞ the rolling sand dunes floated into her memories, ❝ i learned how to climb from a group of scavs when i was still young enough that i didn’t know better. i thought it was thrilling to scale the relics and broken starships, when it turned out they needed someone small to get into the tight crevices that hadn’t been picked over already. ❞

fingers carefully pushed up through her loose hair. ❝ they underestimated my usefulness. i went off on my own whilst i was still younger than pretty much everyone else on jakku. i found my home, i learned about it from the inside out. it drove me to figure out how to make things work and to see the beauty in the relics that were there. these massive memories that were full of data and information that people weren’t utilising. it started out so wonderful, realising i could have a purpose. but the longer i was there, the more hard it became to want to study and harder to find new things to learn. ❞ 

rey’s voice faltered for a moment, and she leaned back in the chair she occupied, eyes closing. ❝ i hoped that if i learned enough, if i did enough, my parents would return for me. i hated jakku, but i knew it was my only chance of ever seeing them again. ❞

pssst, how many of you have dragon age/dragon age inquisition muses somewhere? i’ve not seen it as an active fandom and i’ve made a bean of an inquisitor cause i’ve just played it for the first time and i was like omfg–anyway. if you rp in the dragon age fandom, she’s over at @lavellanshe​ or im me here and i’ll follow you etc…..

Inspiration: I mean, Star Wars, right? When TFA came out I wrote Rey for a little bit but got super intimidated by the fandom bc I was already a member of the Marvel rpc and I was stressed & going through a pretty bad breakup so I ran away and hid. Eventually when TROS came out I was like you know what? Fuck it. I’m fixing this. And Rey came back to life. 

Story Behind URL: First URL was aequusjedi which was balanced jedi bc I wanted something to represent actual balance rather than just whatever. Now it’s healingpast mostly bc my main Ben Solo partner/solo ship for this blog is killingpast - while Ben wants to kill the past, Rey wants to heal it. So together, they fit. Balance.

favorite comfort food:  at the moment it’s jube-style lollies, so soft candy covered with sugar. 

favorite relaxing activity: listening to music, taking a bath.

favorite book: the night circus.

favorite calming scent: i have a roll-on anti-migraine stick that i just really love how it smells. it’s like lavender, peppermint and rosemary? it’s so fresh and it helps. 

favorite uplifting song: brave by sara bareilles 

favorite white noise: ocean sounds. the crashing of waves. 

favorite chill-out TV show: sailor moon. is my comfort.
