4 STEPS TO START YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS GOALS THIS YEAR
MY STORY
For the past 6 years, I have been living in Toronto and I haven’t been able to get my health goals in order. With school, a job and being a calligrapher (you can check me out at The Calligraphy Workshop) I just keep using the excuse ‘I’m too busy’. As 2018 was approaching I reflected on how I wanted the future to look like. I knew this had to be the year I began my health journey. I am a newlywed and both my husband and I wanted to be in our best shape physically so that we could enjoy more in our lives.

We started in December 2017 preparing and dedicating this year to focusing on our health and fitness. One of my friends documented her journey about The Elimination Diet on a blog. I found it inspiring. I knew that social media could be helpful for me to stay accountable and motivated. I have been motivated by so many different blogs, I knew that I wanted to share my journey as well.
In December, before the new year began my husband and I read The Elimination Diet book, and we started to reflect on what changes needed to be made in our lives so that we could get to our goals. So today I want to share with you the 4 lifestyle changes we made for 2018.
4 STEPS TO START YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS GOALS THIS YEAR
1. Meal Planning is Essential for Success
My husband and I both work all day, so when we get home we don’t always want to cook, which means we were often eating out. After reading The Elimination Diet book, we knew that couldn’t be an option anymore. We had to cook everything and prepare meals. It became fun for us to make the grocery lists and plan what we would make. We now have a system where we cook for 5 days of the week on Sunday. It takes about 3-4 hours but saves us a lot of time during the week.
Just a note for anyone that is meal planning in Toronto, I found that these were great money savers for us: • The PC Points program gave us $20 off our grocery bill when we got to a certain number of points. • Comfort TO is delivery service in Toronto that shops at Costco for you, and is so worth it! I buy staples like quinoa and coconut oil for less.

2. Clean Kitchen = Clean Eating
As we started to prepare for our lifestyle change in December, we knew that we had to get rid of any processed and unhealthy foods in our home. We used up whatever we had in the pantry, fridge, and freezer for Christmas dinner with our families (Yes, we served some weird appetizers!). We also had to refuse taking more food home and give away all the boxes of chocolates we received. This was important for us to start establishing that we were going to keep a kitchen of only healthy foods and snacks.

3. Physical Activity is Important
My husband and I have always found it hard to be motivated to go to the gym. We both have desk jobs and at the end of the day, you are just tired. We knew we had to find other way to keep ourselves active. Luckily we have a swimming pool in our condo, which has become our new favourite activity. I personally like to do barre and was so excited when my husband gifted me a membership to BarreWorks for Christmas!
4. Motivation and Support is A Must
Having my husband doing this diet with me as been an incredible support. We cook together and meal plan together and support each other. Everyone is different so find what motivates you and find a good support system! We made sure that our families and friends knew we were on this diet, so that they understood why we didn’t always eat out and that we didn’t feel bad when we said no. Another way I stay motivated is using the app Charity Miles, check it out!

Until next time!
