sophia was reeling. she was sure chelsea would have loved this, but this wasn’t exactly sophia’s element. if anything, she had gone to the rager purely to find out more information that could potentially help her figure out what happened to the girl she’d crushed on so hard. her suspect board was pitifully bare, and it was driving sophia crazy. online articles didn’t help, and she was seconds away from taking matters into her own hands. surely the janitor didn’t have anything better to do than answer questions from nosy students.
the keg seemed like the safest place to start, considering it would undoubtedly be crowded in the next few minutes. there was no point in standing alone in a corner–despite how uncomfortable she was. ironically, she noted that the keg was still being tapped, which meant there wasn’t yet a crowd like she had hoped. still, she followed her gut and  “hey, thanks.” she smiled easily, taking the beer from him. this is my party. her heart skipped a beat, wheels turning in her head. ”you know, chelsea would be impressed. you’ve thrown quite a rager.” taking a sip of her drink, she glanced up at him. god, she hated beer. “did you know her?”
Tumblr media
“you’re all good, dude.” handing her a beer, he shot her a smile in return and got busy filling up his own cup with the foamy liquid, standing up straighter as he took a sip, glad that he’d gotten it done. he’d planned to return to his friends, but her words threw him off for a moment. then, quickly easy was filled with pride. “yeah... i mean...” he considered explaining it wasn’t meant to be so packed to the brim with people and fun, but he thought better of it. “it’s like, good that everyone wants to celebrate her life.” he added weakly.
at the question of whether he knew her, he nodded, brows furrowing. “’course. she was at all the parties we threw, she was one of the good ones. plus she always beat me at like... everything, but she made it fun.” he explained. “honestly i don’t know why anyone who didn’t know her would be here.” easy added a moment later, frowning at the very concept before nodding over at her. “how did you know her?” he took another, long sip of his beer, a little suspicious but really, easy wasn’t the type to overthink things. it was just that he hadn’t really seen her at parties before.

easy didn’t really get why his friends always left him to tap the new keg on his own. he was good at it, sure, but he didn’t like having to stand in the corner alone while everyone else danced. this was his party, he guessed so he couldn’t really protest. he didn’t want to leave people disappointed. but there wasn’t even supposed to be dancing... not really. when he’d conceived this idea he thought it’d be more of people swaying and holding up lighters, but then again easy didn’t even own a lighter himself. he vaped, mostly. his mind was elsewhere as he finished with the keg, turning his head to be met with the sight of a girl he didn’t recognise. he almost jumped out of his khakis.
“hey...” he greeted, a little unsure of where she had come from. easy lifted the tap and reached for a cup, holding it up. “uh, you want a beer?” she was pretty...-ish. the least he could do would be to offer her a beverage. “this is my party, gotta like, y’know... make sure everyone’s getting their thirst quenched. it’s what chelsea would want.” he explained, looking away for a moment and finding himself remembering all the times she’d absolutely kicked his ass in beer pong. easy quite nearly shed a tear over it.

EVENT #1 — POST-VIGIL RAGER
College kids are being insensitive, what’s new?
DATE: Saturday, January 25, 2020
At first, the concept of a party after the vigil for Chelsea was just the tentative brain child of a naive dudebro who remembered playing drinking games with her on many an occasion. It was an attempt to honour her by doing something she loved: drinking excessively, but maybe this time to a more sombre soundtrack than EDM and songs that got popular off TikTok.
Word got around campus and some people scoffed at the idea... others decided it would help to put them at ease after such a tragedy had befallen campus.
The location was typical, a place off campus that the cops were unlikely to raid for underage drinking because it never caught the attention of locals. If you didn’t have a ride, though, attending would be a real hassle.
By Saturday night, thousands of students descended on the quad where a stage had been set up at the entrance of the main office building. In their hands most students held plastic lights in the shape of candles, the flimsy things quickly bought in large supply by the school in preparation for the vigil. A slideshow of pictures of Chelsea was being projected onto the side of the building, each one peeling away to reveal a new one while Charlie Puth’s See You Again played softly in the background. Ten minutes after most of the crowd shuffled in from around campus, the Dean stepped towards the podium and addressed the crowd. Her speech was part heartbroken lament on the loss of a young life and part assurance that they would find out who did this and please come forward if you have any information.
On the Facebook livestream of the event, as she warned students to keep safe and not engage in reckless behaviour, someone commented ‘dean marrone is being hella wack like if u agree’. People in the crowd ranged from genuine grief with tears spilling down cheeks to people taking selfies with the projected pictures of Chelsea to post to Instagram, throwing in a #RIP for good measure.
A few other people, claiming to be friends and classmates said a few words or read poems, but slowly people trickled out. Eventually the vigil ended and people began splitting off into small groups, those who had known Chelsea and those who had known someone who knew her now heading off to the party they’d heard about, either desperate to get death off their minds or pretending they were attending to solemnly celebrate her memory.
By 10:30 PM the warehouse was filled with students, talking and drinking, resting on the few and far between options as far as where they could sit: lawn chairs, the back of someone’s truck... someone had brought in a hay bail, somehow. Things seemed like they were slowly picking up, but the direction of the night was anyone’s guess..
LOCATION: Abandoned warehouse on the edge of Lancaster, near a river + the woods.  OOC DURATION: May 14 - May 25 THIS POST REQUIRES: minor ooc interaction - like this post when you’ve seen it. you are encouraged to pause or cease current threads to start ones for the party.  TAGS: n/a OTHER: our first event, we’ve made it! please start interactions at the party, though you’re welcome to decide whether or not your character went to the vigil, how they felt about it. feel free to have fun with your party threads and look out for an upcoming npc interaction that one of you has been specially chosen to enjoy with none other than the party’s host.

PLOT DROP #1
DATE: Wednesday, January 22, 2020
Hearst is still in a state of shock in the aftermath of the death of Chelsea Montgomery. The first week of classes has been cancelled in the wake of the unsettling announcement that came on Sunday, when the Lancaster Police Chief, a large and grumpy man in his forties, stood in front of a camera crew that had flocked to their town and announced two very important pieces of information.
One: that Chelsea’s death was being looked into as a homicide.
Two: that her death occurred prior to everyone leaving for winter break, they believe most likely on the 22nd of December, after 5pm.
Students have been asked to come forward with any information they have about seeing Chelsea towards the end of the semester. Students who knew Chelsea are being offered grief counselling, though whether they’ve taken advantage is up in the air. Gossip is rampant, some people are sure there’s a serial killer loose at Hearst.
Dean Marrone has announced that a vigil will be taking place on Saturday night on campus in an effort to bring everyone together, but her ability to keep control over campus is in the midst of being tested.
THIS POST REQUIRES: minor ooc interaction - like this post when you’ve seen it.  TAGS: n/a OTHER: dates on plot drops indicate where we are in the ic timeline, try to follow along with this mostly in regards to threads. you’re encouraged to use this as a context for plotting threads when we open for interactions. also, i love u all.
