Oh, well, this wasn't exactly what she would have ordered. In fact, it wasn't. Oh no.

"Miss, I—"

The waitress had already hurried away as fast as she could, her arms laden with about two other tables worth of orders and another three up and ready in the window. She heaved a sigh.

Well, that was not going to do her any good then, was it? Not like she could help it, the poor girl was already in a state-and-half rushing back and forth during lunch rush. She'd been there. She was already dearly tired from her own big rush of patients back at the clinic, the cold wet weather lingering around had left too many people victim to catching (and ignoring) bad colds. So she did the next best thing: cut out the middleman and look around for any similarly confused patrons staring at a very incorrect order of her carrot ginger soup. Hopefully untouched.

Thankfully, she saw only one other person who had said soup placed in front of them. With a weary sigh— she really did just want to have lunch, and she was not wanting to barge into a strangers', but it was what it was— she carefully slipped her hand under the plate as to not touch the food, just on the off-chance they were willing to make an easy trade.

"Pardon me, you didn't happen to order this, did you?"

A lost bag in Gotham did not stay lost long. Then again, it wasn't always the person who lost it who found it.

Thankfully, a more honest soul had found it first. "Excuse me, are you looking for this?" The older woman, wearing her doctor's coat still, held out the bag carefully towards the young man. She'd seen the poor thing drop it in the sea of comers and goers wading around the area this time of day, most on their way home from day jobs and on their way out to night ones. A rough hour for anyone in-between, really.

But Leslie just gave a warm and understanding smile. It's not like she didn't learn the lesson the hard way back in her college days, no shame in it. Keep the loops of your bags and clutches wrapped around your wrist, straps cross-body, put your money in the inside pockets, keep your purse in front of you, always get a bag with a zipper. "I saw you from across the street, dear, you looked to be in an awful rush. I almost didn't catch you in time."

It wasn't often that she treated herself to cup that didn't come from her trusty Mr. Coffee in the clinic break room, much less the time to drink it and enjoy the ambience of one of Gotham's hidden treasure coffeehouses, but she knew better than some people that even the busiest had to take a break.

A little self-care was a needed part of life.

But after grabbing her coffee, putting a good tip in the cup, and pausing a bit too long at the pastry case in contemplation— was that a fresh tray of pasticciotto from the kitchen tempting her? Gotham had everyone by the sweet tooth, she swore— she turned to head out and very nearly walked right into the next customer coming up for his order.

"Oh, pardon me, I didn't even—" She squinted a bit, force of habit in this city. Now, didn't that face look a little familiar...

Bio:

Leslie Thompkins was a close friend of Dr. Thomas Wayne, having been friends with him since their time in medical school, and subsequently became good friends with his wife Martha and then their young son Bruce. She, along with Alfred, became a guardian to Bruce as his godmother after his parents were gunned down in Park Row. She often acted with the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as a parental figure and guardian; trying to teach Bruce how to deal with his grief. During that time, Dr. Thompkins was concerned with Bruce's behavior as he grew increasingly antisocial. She was even more perturbed when she discovered that, in his adult years, Bruce spent his nights fighting the criminal elements of Gotham as the Batman. While Leslie is aware of Batman's identity, and often works to assist him, she is not entirely in support of the particular nature of his work. She abhors the excessive violence he sometimes falls prey to, and disapproves greatly of him bringing children into such danger. But that has never and will never change her love for him. Her arms are always open to him, and her willingness to be there and make sure that any wounds are tended to and that he doesn't fall down too dark a path. Dr. Thompkins runs the free Thomas Wayne Memorial Clinic, open to any and all who need her help. Criminals are no stranger to her care, and receive no less respect and human kindness. While the majority of her patients are repeat offenders, she continues to do her job with great perseverance and determination. To her, there is no hopeless case.
