Home is where the Heart is
212 posts
Hello, I am Hestia, goddess of the hearth and home. After I gave up my seat on Olympus I traveled a bit, never too far from home but far enough to see the world. Now I'm settling back in, trying to adjust to this new world with its variety of people. ((FC based mainly on Greek mythology. Face is Vanessa Marano. No GIFs are mine. Will roleplay with anyone. Multi!verse is the plan. Multi!shipping is also fun, although keep in mind that Hestia is a maiden goddess, so hot make-out sessions is as far as she'll go.))

"Home, in my opinion, is where the food is." Hesita said with a gentle smile. She pulled a small platter of cookies out of her hearth and nudged them in the direction of the young demigod. "In all my life, I've learned that family does not often abandon us without reason. Perhaps I can be of service, yes?"
Hestia stuck her head out the window to the left of her front door, a large spoon in one hand and a napkin in the other. “Sorry demigod, the door is a bit…stuck right now.” her smile was apologetic but no less warm than it usually was. “Is there something...

"Abandoned implies that we never plan to go back." Hestia quirked an eyebrow at her brother, part challenge and part motherly warning that she did indeed plan to return home one day and he had better not dispute that fact. "Change is often cleansing. Like airing out laundry. Though I am told mortals have machines for such things now." Her eyes sparkled with amazement as she tried to describe to her brother the wonder that was a Drying Machine. "Why did we never come up with such things?"

Hestia wrinkled her nose at Zeus. “Abandoned is such a harsh word Brother.” She looked up, dark eyes flickering with an inner flame that seemed to make her face glow slightly. “Besides, the world is changing yet again. Perhaps it is a good idea for us to change with it yes?” The smile that touched her lips could be described in equal parts motherly and impish as she regarded her technical younger brother (though she often deferred to him like an elder one).

Hestia rolled her shoulder, a single motion that seemed to convey her frustration on the matter without her even having to speak. "Indeed." she murmured, her lips dipping into a frown for a moment. Swiftly though, the expression was replaced by something more cheery and she turned to her brother. "But at least you're here and we do what we can."

Hestia tilted her head slightly, her long locks falling over her shoulder. “Well, as cordial as he is to me, I don’t suppose he would be bribed with cookies?” A warm spark entered her eyes as she thought about it before she sighed. “No, I don’t suppose I can offer much comfort to the departed or their families.”

Hestia's smiled warmly at the young boy. "Not all battles are won with strength or bloodshed." She tilted her head, her eyes flickering with memories of a life long lived. "I cannot tell your your path, but I can hope that you will understand that there is more than one path to victory."

Hestia laughed, a soft rustling sound similar to the gentle swish of fabric. “Of course child.” She tilted her head, a small spark in her eyes, “Have faith in your abilities dear child. I would hate to see a champion such as yourself fall before your time.”

Hestia bobbed her head as the demigod followed in through the window. "Everyone gets lost on their way home every once in a while." She sat on her knees, leaning her elbows against the edge of her hearth where a plate of fudge sat near her. "Though, I will admit that you must have gotten more lost than most to wind up here with me."

Hestia stuck her head out the window to the left of her front door, a large spoon in one hand and a napkin in the other. “Sorry demigod, the door is a bit…stuck right now.” her smile was apologetic but no less warm than it usually was. “Is there something that I can help you with? Please come inside, I have just made fudge.” the goddess ducked back in and gestured with the napkin for the young woman to follow.

Hestia was expecting some form of affection to be shown. But to be launched at, well, that was new. The goddess caught the girl with ease despite her shorter stature. Her arms practically enveloped the demigod and she squeezed tightly.
"My blessings with you child. Call for me whenever you are in need."
And with that Hestia released her and disappeared with only the scent of cookies to prove she had been there at all.

“I would like to see you when you return child.” Hestia said slowly, her expression warm but tinged with exhaustion. “But I am afraid I can make no promises. It all depends on if I am needed back on Olympus or if my place is to remain here.” or in Rome, she thought to herself but let none of that show on her face.
She tilted her head in question when the demigod asked about the cookies that were in her hands. “Essentially, they’ll get you and two others close to when the boy is. As far as I am allowed to send you. Eat half now to go, then burn the other half and one whole to return, hopefully with your future brother in law.”

Hesita's eyes sparkled and her lips quirked in a soft smile. "No, I don't suppose you do. But I know much about you dear one." Her smile broadened as she pushed the door open, bracing it with her back. "Please, come in. I was just doing some baking. Do you prefer apple or chocolate pie?" Her eyes skimmed over the man's rigid form and she suppressed a sigh. "It's alright Clint. This is a safe place. My goal is to help you heal."

Hestia opened her door slowly with her toes, her eyes cast down as she concentrated on the task of balancing a pie in each hand with the added bonus of answering her door. When she looked up, her dark eyes sparkled with interest. “Well this is a surprise. Clint is it? You weren’t suppose to be here for another week or so.” A warm smile appeared on her youthful face, and she nudged the door open further, bracing it with her back. “No matter, please, come inside.”

Hestia smiled up at her brother, the expression tinged with uncertainty  “Ah, yes. I needed a change of scenery and it’s been so long since I’ve left Olympus and seen the world.” She fidgeted, shifting from foot to foot and tugging at the rolled up sleeves of her shirt. “You’re not, um, you’re not mad at me are you?” Her warm eyes flickered up at Zeus before she looked back down, a flush of color covering her cheeks. ”I meant to tell you, but you were so busy and so I didn’t want to bother you and then I thought about writing you a note but that felt so impersonal so I didn’t…and then I thought about telling you after I was already here but…I couldn’t figure out how.” She spoke in a rush, her nose wrinkled in slight agitation.

“Just don’t argue with me.” Hestia said with a small smile. She could see the denial in his eyes and knew that he would argue until it became inevitable to realize it. She was just sad that she would not be there when that realization struck. “Or perhaps say nothing at all. You have given me plenty of thanks as it is.”

Hestia’s eyes widened for a brief moment. “I hadn’t even though about that.” Sadness swept through her; she should have realized that burial had changes as well as home dynamics. “How bad is it? And is there anything I can do to help you?”

Guilt weighed heavily on the goddess as she raised her eyes to meet her brother’s gaze. Hestia was never a very good liar and in fact she abhorred lying, cheating, and misdirection and in this case she found it amazing that she never told Hades sooner. “I… I still am sorry.” she mumbled her voice soft as she looked at him. She turned away, her eyes drawn back to her flame. “Are you really bothered so little by the loss of faith in us?”
