INTERESTING !

      ❝ Ah- w-well… I don’t know if there’s an english counterpart… ❞ he muttered as he moved to grab his bike. ❝ It’s not imagination, but like a movie that plays in the head? Not really controllable, could almost be like dream maybe, can be good or bad? ❞

   He wasn’t sure he was making sense at all. Moving his left hand to scratched the back of his head, his fingers were quick to get lost in the curls of his hair before he glanced back to Impey. So he was heading to town then… Well, it might be better this way. If he wasn’t careful he could end up really tired from just riding a bike.

      ❝ I was mostly looking to clear my head today. Lack of inspiration on making designs. I find it a bit better to be away from lots of things at times. When I was in Germany I went into the woods a lot on days I could walk okay. But um… if it is okay to ask. What supplies were you going for? Is it for uh… her? ❞ he looked to the car before to the other once more.

Huh. Sounded like a bit of reminiscing, but not quite! He was sure he’d get it if he went through that kind of thing himself. Though, whether or not it was good or bad -- it’s just a matter of doing something with what’s seen, isn’t it? Well, the red head doesn’t particularly understand it, but it was something he could look into if he decides to run into this guy again ( after all, fate is a fickle thing -- but why let fate decide who he can be friends with? ).

Though, once Plum has acknowledged his automobile -- he puffs out his chest in pride. This hunker was one of his pride and joys; he loved it to no end! But of course, the car needed a lot of maintenance, he finally scrapped together enough cash to replace a crankshaft, something vital that kept all the pieces moving. Slapping his hand down on the hood heartily, he nods.

“ You got it! Though, maybe you’ll find what you’re looking for, if you let passion guide your hand. Hop in and let good ol’ Impey show ya how it’s done! ” After all, he felt his most inspired whenever he made something new from a pile of metal and bolts.

it’s been a good while since i’ve written, so i’ll be getting to drafts i owe. in the mean time, feel free to like this for a starter?

FUNNY GUY.

   He blinked to the male’s words, almost taking on a poker-face when the wink was given. Feeling shy again? Very much so. As he averted his gaze to try and focus on something small as he fumbled on trying to remember what words where used in reply to thanks. But alas, he couldn’t recall them. The next best thing he could give in reply was a shy wave to him.

   A small “eh” left his lips once he was offered a lift by the other as thanks for helping him. Looking back to his bike he soon turned back to the red head. It takes Plum a moment before finally shaking Impey’s hand, muttering to himself for a moment as he tried to remember a few words. If it wasn’t his hesitance to speak that would tell how he’s still learning the English language, it would certainly be how he spoke it.

      ❝ Plum, a-and thank you for offer. ❞ he looked to the other’s car once more before back to him. ❝ Were you heading towards the town or… umm.. sight-seeing to have a kopfkino happen maybe? ❞

“ Kopfkino? Can’t say I’ve heard of that. Don’t mind takin’ some time to explain, do ya?  ” Impey wasn’t in any rush to get his chores completed as is, knowing he has every other day of the week to get what he wants done. Maybe he should put that on his bucket list? He’s got a lot of time on his hands, after all! Though, the mechanic had already caught on that English wasn’t the other’s native language -- maybe he shouldn’t talk so much? Well -- or, at the very least, not use too many idioms that may not make sense.

“ Though, you’re right! I was heading to town to pick up some supplies, but helping someone else is just as good, too. ” That might sound lazy of him, but hey! Maybe it would give him ideas of what to build next. After all, building machines all day can leave someone in a rut. This could be his chance to break out of the rut for a little bit, as well as make a new friend!

headcanon time: spoken languages !

now, you might be asking -- why do i hc that impey speaks french on a conversational level? i’ll be getting into that, now! in the novel, impey barbicane is an american who’s from florida. now, florida had quite a bit of french involvement back in the day -- which means impey likely learned french from the settlers there before he started his travels with arsene. but like with most languages, his dialect isn’t standard. which means he wouldn’t be able to hold a deep conversation with someone like arsene, for example. at most, he’d be able to have a passing conversation -- but because he doesn’t speak standard french, he won’t be able to get very far. he can understand more than he can speak, but he wouldn’t really be able to translate stuff like idioms either ( rather, he’d end up translating them literally rather than the conveyed meaning ).

HELPFUL STRANGER !

   A blink came to the voice that called to him, slowing on his bike to look to the male that was at the hood of the broken down vehicle. Finally coming to a stop ht moved off his bike to walk over once it became clear the other was rather distressed. Wait… he’s been stuck there for an hour?!

      ❝ Y-yeah I can help. Let see… ❞

   Well, he knew his words there might have sounded funny. But can he be blamed for it? This is a language he’s still learning! But moving closer he looked to see what the problem was that had him stuck, nearly pausing to see by “stuck” he meant that his braid got caught by the machinery! Looking it over he leaned forward to touch the braid for a moment. Following it down to where it was snagged with his hand. A small “hold on” could have been heard from him as he worked on freeing the male from his hour long hold from the car. As soon as he felt it give slack he moved his hand back, seeming to be rather proud of himself to get it free.

      ❝ I did it. ❞ he states in a rather pleased tone with himself. but soon thinking on his last words. ❝ But I won’t tell anyone on this! Promise. ❞

FINALLY, pushing himself out from under the head of the trunk - he takes a deep breath and gives a toothy grin. Now that his hair is free, he should secure it better to avoid that happening again. Digging into his pockets, he pulls out quite a few hairbands -- all meant for tying his hair into a pretty big bun! Though, before that - he turns to his savior, smiling despire the current grease stains on his face. Ah, well, labors of love!

 “ Now that was a mighty kind save of ya! ” He starts, before seeing that the stranger was currently travelling by bike. Oh man, and the sun is kinda harsh today... maybe he can give him a lift as thanks? With a wink, he continues to speak.

--- “ How about I give ya a lift as thanks? My girl’s stubborn today, but she’ll get where she you need t’go. Got a name, stranger? Mine’s Impey! ” He so cheerfully introduces himself, extending a hand for the stranger to take. With how fast he talks -- one would be right to assume he isn’t a native to the English Isles. But with how cheerful he is, he fits right in anyway. Ah, but details. For now, he’s more focused on making sure he can repay this stranger for his kindness!

“ Hey, heeeey ! Wanna give a mechanic a helping hand?! ” Came the robust shout, yet Impey hadn’t even looked up from his current work. The redhead had an acute sense of space and could tell when he wasn’t alone, so he figured it would be fine to call out for some assistance. After all, he’s currently stuck with his broken down car again. As much as he loves it, the engine can be so stubborn sometimes! But that’s okay, because he loves it anyway. He’ll fix it all over again, if he has to, but for now he just needs someone to help him and at this rate, considering he made his current outing by himself -- anyone is a sight for sore eyes! His head is currently stuck under the hood, but his braid got stuck on something and he can’t seem to get it out himself. Man, what a lame situation to be in!

     “ Been kinda stuck here for an hour, so whoever’s out there, I’d really appreciate it! ” He says, waving a hand from under the hood. What kinda genius mechanic gets his braid stuck?! Impey Barbicane, that’s who.

        “ And speak of this to no one!! ” He adds, almost all too desperately.
