i made a post a little while ago about how should i stay or should i go is a metaphor for byler bUT THEN i just listened to the lyrics and ???????? that’s literally what the song is about????????
like there were so many options they could have chosen for a 80s song that could be turned creepy and applied to wills upside down plot line but NO THEY CHOSE THE MOST BYLER FROM WILLS POV SONG EVER TO EXIST
here’s just some:
“if you say that you are mine/i’ll be here till the end of time”
“one day is fine the next is black/so if you want me off your back/well come on and let me know/should i stay or go?”
“if i go there will be trouble/if i stay there will be double”
“this indecision’s bugging me/if you don’t want me set me free”
“exactly whom i’m supposed to be/don’t you know what clothes even fit me?/so come on and let me know/ should i cool it or should i blow?”
and that’s basically all of the lyrics??? they sound even more byler-y when you listen i promise
also i cant stop thinking about will listening to this at first bc jonny introduced him to it and then *intense trauma* making it a weird ptsd and comfort song and then it sticking throughout the years as he falls in love and mike starts to be weird and he relates to the song more and uses it to scream out his frustration and angst, and that’s why it’s still his favorite song today and so saves him from vecna in s5 (along with mike) !!!!!!!

"Why can't two boys just be friends? Why does it always have to be something more?"
Good question. Good, good. But I have some better questions:
Why was Mike written to have extreme character changes/ a decline after things got serious with El?
Why was he so awkward with only Will and so emotionally distant from El in S4?
Why have Mike be unable to say "I love you" to El for the sole reason of not wanting to lose her?
Why have Nancy's S2 storyline be mainly about her being unable to say "I love you" to Steve, and then do the same thing to Mike in S4?
Why have Mike claim the S4 fight with El was a "fight you can't come back from" when he knows very well he just has to say he loves her?
Why have Will clearly in love with Mike since S1 just for it to go unrequited and have no benefit for neither Will or Mike's character arcs?
Why have El be clearly constantly upset with Mike and her relationship, when other ships rarely fight?
Why have Mileven parallel to Stobin and Stancy?
Why have Byler parallel to Lumax, Jopper and Jancy?
Why show that El was way happier and healthier when she broke up with Mike and spent time with Max?
Why parallel a Mileven and Byler fight in the same season and almost same time (S3) but show Mike immediately chasing after Will to apologize and take full responsibility for upsetting Will, while he sat on the couch and ate chips and blamed others for his fight with El?
Why have the focal point of most Byler scenes be Mike's hand on Will, or Mike's loving smile towards Will?
Why state early on in the show that "only love makes you that crazy" and then show Mike romantically telling Will they'll go "crazy together"?
Why have Mike repeat "we're friends" twice when Will mentioned their friendship?
Why have a song titled "In the Closet" play when Mike insisted that he only does things for El and not Will because he's dating her?
Why show that Mike keeps a whole binder of Will's drawings, but show that he crumpled up El's letters to him (twice...)
Why state early on that Nancy was "acting like a jerk" when she was dating Steve (the wrong guy) and parallel that to Mike being a jerk to others when he's dating El?
Why do Mike and Will have several heart to hearts, while Mike and El have none?
Why have Mike not state what he loves about El's personality and her character in his monologue, yet states her superhero qualities - which she made clear she doesn't like?
Why did Millie Bobby Brown in an interview say "does he love her for who she is, or does he still think of her as superwoman" and clearly show that Mike prefers her as a superhero?
Why does Mike not feel comfortable opening up to El, despite him knowing her for years?
Why have Byler parallel other shows and movies that are about a gay guy dating a girl to avoid his feelings?
Why show Mike being comfortable with his nerdy self in S1-S4, yet around El he is very insecure?
Why show that Mike's monologue didn't work?
Why have the Max quote from S3 "not Mike...there's more to life without stupid boys" appear when El is trying to fight and while she's listening to Mike's monologue?
Why show El during the monologue as her letting go from Mike instead of genuinely feeling empowered?
Why have Mike and El be unable to learn about each others interests and do fun things together other than making out?
Why have the show constantly insist that Mike's friendship/relationship with Will is very different than his other friendships?
Why have Mike feel lost and different only when Will is gone?
Why would the writers/directors spend so much time with Byler scenes to make them appear meaningful, romantic and truly cinematic?
Why have El's arc clearly about her independence if Mileven is supposed to be endgame?
Why do the writers/directors prove the blue and yellow theory in every Byler scene?
Why have Will appear in every Mileven scene in S4?
Why show Mike clearly not noticing that El acted off around Angela, yet show Mike noticing everything that Will did when they were at Rink-o-mania?
Why have Mike and El unable to communicate and show they have zero chemistry when we know the writers are perfectly capable of writing a couple?
Why does the whole cast talk about Byler in interviews differently than they talk about Steddie, or other couples that stand zero shot? As if there's something to hide?
Why does Finn answer Mileven and Byler questions very vaguely and refuse to tell if Mileven end up together?
Why does Mike only smile in pictures with Will?
Why does Mike always want to be the one to protect Will, and its like an immediate reaction to do so?
Why would Mike backtrack from his meaningful and romantic "I was so alone and scared, and you were alone too" and say "I'm not alone anymore cause I'm with El but good luck to you"?
Why would Mike say befriending Will was the best thing he's ever done?
Why have Mike and Will standing next to each other with the other canon couples in the S4 finale?
Why was the S4 finale shot paralleled to other scenes in S3 and S4, when Byler was together, separated from other canon couples who were also paired off together?
Why have the promotion posters for S3 and S4 hint at Byler (one example is a poster of Mike said "boy trouble" rather than "girl trouble")
Why have Mike literally lie in his S4 monologue instead of just saying things he loves about El's personality?
Why did El and Mike not have a heart to heart after his monologue? Or at least appear happy together afterwards?
Why hint that the Russian code from S3 actually relates to Byler? (Them being the blue and yellow - their colors)
Why have Mike and Will staring at each other in the S4 posters just like all the other endgame couples?
Why have Will fully in the shot when Mike says "I love you" to El during his monologue?
Why have Mike's whole character clearly show signs of being queer-coded and having possible depression tendencies from hiding himself?
Why have the whole Stranger Things narrative be about outcasts being called "delusional" for their ideas/solutions but end up being correct, similar to the Byler fan base?

S5 Prediction: Mike & Will's Confession + Kiss Theory (Short Version)
Byler Nation, big news. I'm pretty sure I figured out exactly how Mike and Will's confession and first kiss is going to go down in S5. This is the short and concise version of my theory outlining when, where and what will happen during the scene. (since i keep adding to the other one lol) Click Here (after you read this) for the long version which goes off on more tangents, includes more proof, and goes over some mini theories that could (possibly) tie into this one. Not to be overly confident, but here's you're spoiler warning.
To start off, I think that Mike and Will are going to end up in the upside-down together in S5. The upside-down and Will are very much connected narratively, seeing as it's literally frozen on the night he went missing.
Obviously there is going to be a reason for that. To bring his story full-circle, it's pretty much inevitable that in the final season, Will is going to end up back in the upside-down. Just like it's inevitable that this time Mike will be there with him. Which is why at the end of season 4, they both sit on an upside down couch together.
Tumblr media
The next part of this theory has to do with Will having powers. (i'm trying to keep this short, so I’ll go over proof here here, here, here later and in the long version of my theory.) But for now, trust me when I say it's probably going to be revealed that Will can manipulate electricity/time in S5. Remember, El was originally supposed to die after season one, which makes the notion of Will having powers extremely likely.
Tumblr media
Okay? Okay. So here's the theory:
Mike and Will are in the upside-down, which is still stuck on the day he went missing in 1983. While In the upside-down, Mike and Will end up at the Wheeler House.
Tumblr media
Time is frozen on Nov 6, which is the first episode of season 1. I think that somehow, Mike and Will are going to be able to affect the other side in season 1 (specifically Nov 6), through the upside-down in season 5.
How though? We know that (as of now) time still flows normally on the other side, unlike the upside-down. However, that could change. Like, what if time were to start moving again in the upside-down? It's safe to say that s5 will include some wacky time shenanigans, which will explain how this is possible. (s5 time-travel proof here, here here, and here)
For example, there are multiple electricity shortages in s1. What if some of these moments, like when Ted fiddles with the TV in the background of season 1, were actually caused by Will in season 5? Now for the good part.
IT’S PARALLEL TIME
In the upside-down, Mike and Will are going to stand in the same spot at the same time as their younger selves on the other side.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The concept of Lies is a HUGE recurring theme and Motif in stranger things. One of the very first bits of characterization we learn about Will, is that he doesn't lie to Mike. Even though it was just a white lie. Even though he could have got away with it. Even though it meant he lost. Friends don't LIE. Will waited until the other boys left before letting Mike in on the Truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the very start, we are shown that Mike and Will have an honest and different bond than rest of the party. Which is why in S5, Will won't be able to Lie to Mike anymore.
Will is going to parallel his younger self and admit the TRUTH to Mike at the same exact time his past self does about the 7.
Tumblr media
and then Mike will kiss him.
Tumblr media
Between them, the electricity FLARES. Will’s brain short-circuits, and the garage light above them FLICKERS (his powers).
Tumblr media
The audience can feel the electricity between Mike and Will. Just like how Dustin could feel the electricity between Lucas and Max.
As they kiss, "Heroes" by David Bowie plays.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in season one, Mike is still ashamed of his love for Will. Which is why the scene cuts off with the line "shame".
This time when the song plays, it will be different though. This time, the full verse will play as they kiss.
“and we kiss as though nothing could fall and the shame… was on the OTHER SIDE.”
Mike and Will are alone together in the upside-down, and the rest of the world and society is on the other side. Because of this, they are able to finally kiss as if nothing could fall, and forget about how they would be shamed for it on the other side.
Or alternatively
Mike and Will are in the upside-down, while their ashamed younger selves were literally on the other side. When they finally kiss as if nothing could fall, they leave their shame on the other side (in the the past).

I haven’t seen many people talk about the parallels between robin/vickie and mike/will.. but this CANT be a coincidence.. these moments are direct parallels of each other.

thinking about season five starting off with El and Mike having a talk and Mike mentioning the painting and El asking him what painting? because the only painting she knows anything about is the one Will's been working on and suddenly it clicks for both of them; for El it's nothing but confusion at first but then oh that makes sense but for Mike? for Mike it's his whole world tilting like suddenly nothing makes any sense at all, all at the same time because if El didn't commission the painting and if Will has been making a painting for someone he likes and if he gave it to Mike, then that means- and also if the painting wasn't from El, were the things Will said about it not from or about her as well? and if it wasn't then that means it was all from Will. to Mike. and that realization changes everything
and Mike needs a few days to process it all and during those days he can't stop himself from looking at Will like really look at him because if it all does means what he thinks (hopes) it means then he should say something right he should talk to Will about it he should tell him because suddenly it feels like every second that pass by where Will doesn't know that Mike loves him too is a second wasted and Mike doesn't want to waste anymore time so he asks Will if they can talk
and suddenly they're fighting and Mike doesn't really understand why Will is yelling at him or why he's yelling right back and it's raining and they're soaking wet and he's so tired he's so goddamn tired of the miscommunication; of them not saying what they actually want; of them talking around this- this thing that so obviously has been here longer than they both want to admit and suddenly he's asking was it from you and Will freezes for a second but then his shoulders slump and he simply says of course it was like it isn't the most life changing thing ever and Mike takes two steps forward into Will's space; finally closing that distance that's been between them for way too long now and then they're kissing and Mike's world is tilting once again but this time it all makes perfect sense

No but the theory that El actually checked in on Mike and Will during the Van scene and then realized Mike was indeed lying in his monologue makes so much sense because she heard what he actually thought, “dumb luck,” vs the lie, “in that moment I knew that I loved you.”

When Mike says "I'm in love with you" to Will, to differentiate between his love for El ("I love you") and his love for Will, and to help reassure Will that Mike's love for him is romantic and not just platonic, what then?

Today we discussed this, but I have another idea in mind, lol.
Nancy:
*jumps out of Jonathan's window at Byers' house*
*bumps into Mike*
Mike:
Nancy:
Mike:
Nancy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wheeler siblings:
*mutual understanding and acceptance *
Joyce: Boys! Why don't you tell the Wheelers to use the front door already?
Tumblr media
Jonathan: How could we get caught?! I thought we agreed to be careful!
Will: We were! It's you are who had the girlfriend's lipstick on your cheek again!
Bonus points for Hopper being stuck in the window frame in Joyce's bedroom.

just thinking about the sheer difference of how mike makes will feel, vs how he makes el feel.
we know that will and el have felt very similar (in which they both feel different from others) and how they've both been bullied bc of it.
but the fact that will just being with mike makes him feel BETTER for being different??? just how mike alone can make all that bullying worth it. its insane how in love will is
on the other hand, we are shown that mike doesn't make el feel this way at all. in their s4 argument, el literally accuses mike of also seeing her as a monster. hell, in the rink-o-mania incident, what mike said reminded el of DR. BRENNER.
now, obviously will and el don't feel exactly the same. they both feel like outcasts for 2 very different reasons. its just interesting how mike, el's boyfriend, can't make her feel better for being different.
but mike, just simply existing with will and staying by his side, can erase his negative feelings entirely.

it is canon to me that mike got kind of startled when he first heard will's voice after not hearing it for so long because of how deep it had gotten and he kept thinking about it for days

Suffer brothers gimmie this rn
a moment where mike and will are in the upside down they think they hear something nearby and mike protectively grabs will's hand but it's a false alarm will looks down at mike's hand then looks up his eyes meet mikes they look at each other for a moment before mike lets go of will and looks away awkwardly
