In a previous post I said that liking clowns gets you mugged in Gotham.

Dick Grayson has made an entire Ph.D level dissertation about how clowns are supposed to work and how the Joker is not a real clown. Including the history of clowning, the importance of jesters, the impact of Marcel Marceau during WWII, and how all of this can lead us to the conclusion that the Joker is an affront to all things clownish. Ending with the statement that Batman makes a better clown.

Gothamites have decided to allow Dick to like clowns, but that he is on thin ice.

Dick: And I need to get in LOTS of practice now so I can have friends when I’m old like you.

Jason and Bruce are out late one night in Gotham as civilians. They get cornered by a mugger and Jason nearly pisses himself, he’s so amused. He teases the would-be mugger about their hand placement, even tries to goad the mugger into a fight because he’s Red Hood. He can disarm anyone in seconds. It doesn’t matter if you have a gun — he has two.

He’s Red Hood, and he has the literal Bat of Gotham standing behind him like a wall of muscle. They’re as close to invincible as humans get, in this town. And that kind of confidence scares off their would-be mugger.

But then Jason turns around, a smile stretching across his face, and Bruce is white. Bone white and so so quiet, eyes wide and trained on where the mugger had been standing.

The challenge was to draw characters in a different style

I drew these for Guess That Artist event in dpxdc server im in >w< I animated it too! But didn't show the animation in the event because I knew it would rat me out XDDD Actually gives me an idea of like ;w; baby dick and jason being taken in. T o T I also made the cape wrap around Jason protectively. And then that's a moped I hand/digitally painted in the bg.. not a car. its too small XD

Jason gave Bruce a gun to shoot him with.

Jason gave him three options but there are only two results. Either Joker dies and Jason is left alive or Joker lives and Jason is too dead to care. That’s not an accident you have to understand.

It’s the most miserable “win if I win, win if I lose” I’ve ever seen set up and it worked. The neck slice moment isn’t just written for shock value it’s a demonstration of the truth of Jason’s point. Sometimes refusing to choose one over the other is just a choice for the other.

like, i know fully well that when jason came around that he had a love hate relationship with him, and by that i mean love shown through acting like he was pissed off at his existence like:

jason: can you drive me to — ?

dick: ugh, no [grabs keys without letting him finish]

dick [pulling into batburger] : i mean since we’re already here, do you want anything?

or

dick: your voice is nauseating get out of my face

jason: fine, i won’t tell you about the fight

dick [ready to wage war on a 12 year old]: WHAT!? who? when?? where???

is there any canon to back this up? no, and i will not explain any further other than that dick wanted to be the cool older sister in a 2000’s movie
